about me
After having lived in Lincoln for the majority of my life, I took up the study of Okinawan Goju-Ryu Karate when I was eleven years old. I’ve been married since 2002.. When we first met she thought that I was the biggest geek she had ever met.
During the day I work as a drone for the state government, at night I moonlight as an unpaid flunkie/drummer/go-fer/photographer/videographer for my wife and the troupe she dances with Benu Dance Company. Although of late, drummer is the most accurate description, I am no longer considered one of the “guys,” I’m “just a drummer.”
Elevation '08
(blog entry)
Elevation '08 was a blast. Thanks Ocean for hosting this fantabulous event. I only took the one class, but even it was enough to make my brain overload. Angela and I arrived in Golden on Thursday afternoon. Checked in to the Dove Inn, which was a ...

Happy Birthday Me
(blog entry)
Well late Thursday my birthday present arrived, for some time now I've been wanting a riq, and now I have one. The playing style is a little different to get used to, but I'm managing pretty well. I took it out for a spin on the drum circle at 10K...

I can name that tune, no wait, I can't, well not yet anyway
(blog entry)
Been scouring the internet, trying to identify the song that has these lyrics, I've searched every database that I can come across. I'm told it is a Tom Waits song, but I swear I've scanned the lyrics of pretty much his entire catalogue and hadn't...

Elevation '08 was a blast. Thanks Ocean for hosting this fantabulous event. I only took the one class, but even it was enough to make my brain overload. Angela and I arrived in Golden on Thursday afternoon. Checked in to the Dove Inn, which was a lovely B&B. The shows on Friday and Saturday were fabulous, despite some technical difficulties on Saturday.
All in all it was a great trip, met some fantastic new people, and had a lot of fun.

Well, its finally over, Sunday was the end of Tribal Dreams, it was a long weekend. Jeff Senn aka Jas of Khafif taught two great drumming classes, Jas had a whole different way of teaching which really made the wheels turn, and a Middle Eastern Music Theory class which also got the wheels turning.
Friday night after the performances got to jam with Khafif, and Ocean joined in as well. And on Saturday Alex and I kicked off the opening of the Presenters Show by drumming for Benu Dance Compan...

I took it out for a spin on the drum circle at 10K Villages on Friday, it sounds great, such a little instrument puts out a lot of sound.

Well yesterday Benu Dance Company, featuring live drumming by Michele D., Alex, and myself appeared before the throngs of people attending the Nebraska State Fair. Although this was an outdoor performance, the ladies got to dance on stage, which is a great improvement from two-years back. As always the show went very well.
Our drumming was great, we started out our set playing ayoub, we then played a fast paced baladi, and when the ladies brought out thier swords we played masmoudi. Then t...

I'm told it is a Tom Waits song, but I swear I've scanned the lyrics of pretty much his entire catalogue and hadn't found anything. Any help y'all might be able to give me in identifying this piece would be greatly appreciated.

I have known Doug since he was a snot nose employee of mine years ago, before he even met his beautiful wife. I feel like I have watched him grow up, become a man and blossoming to the his own identity. Doug beats to his own drum and will amuse you with his eccentric behavior, his stories of karate and now learning how to bang a musical instrument, He is, by far, the perfect bellydancer husband around! Angela is very lucky to have someone as supportive as Doug and the girls of Benu are lucky to have this jack of all trades as well!
Plus..he's just a cool cat!
