Bridging together "digital" and "organic" solutions, the 3rd panel at the Earth Day Digital Be-In was on "Integral Solutions."

Jair of Imaginify Community Network opened it up as Moderator. He reinforced the need for people to take care of the Earth, and "not simply entrust competition" but make a decisive effort to educate about collaboration and cooperation.

Jair also made note that there are many "Integral Theories," not just one.

When I got to the Digital Be-In, the Digital Solutions Panel was underway. Erik Sundelof, of the Digital Visions Program at Stanford, speaking about using technology to help strengthen Social networks and community building among those who lack access to information technology, encouraged people to visit their website at www.rdvp.org/.

David Ulansey finished the panel by talking about the problem of extinction (www.well.com/~davi... read more

OK--FINAL POST from the dancefloor, I swear it! (Sitting right in front of Mr. Shiva Nataraj Himself.)

It's finally heating up--Neptune is spinning. The sound is hard & thick, the bass is rumbling in my elbows. People bouncing & weaving & waving in that slightly out-of-kilter, 2.7 step fashion we so love. That angular BreakBeat Butt Shake, "turn & burn" it sounds like the voice in the speaker says.

I'm looking for the evidence of the eco-pajama party Lux was describing. . . . Maybe. ... read more

Event Overview

about me
Welcome to The Earth Day Be-In, celebrating the further evolution of the digital revolution: building a sustainable culture.

Digital Be-In 14, this year on Earth Day 2006, is a timely convergence of the San Francisco Bay Area’s forward thinking technologists – and the advanced cyberculture they have fostered – with the vanguard of the sustainable culture movement represented by the region’s huge concentration of green start-ups, environmental non-profit groups and conscious consumers.

The Earth Day Be-In is combination symposium, exhibition, rally and multimedia entertainment extravaganza featuring a range of presentations focused on sustainability solutions, with some of San Francisco’s top “conscious music” acts, DJs, and visual and performance artists.

--------------------------------------
Digital Be-In 14 is a production of Cyberset Music and Media in collaboration with the Green Century Institute, Planetwork, Imaginify, San Francisco Alliance for Urban Sustainability, Women’s Global Green Action Network, California Institute of Integral Studies, Institute of Noetic Sciences, the Evolver Project, Eco-city Builders, Tribe.net, and many other groups.

This year’s Be-In theme “Planet Code” implies our writing (and re-writing where necessary) the “codes” that define our place within and interaction with the natural environment, and calls upon the high technology community we have encouraged and celebrated over the years to empower the sustainability movement with bold, forward-thinking initiatives.

Digital Be-In 14 is produced by
Cyberset Music and Media and Green Century Institute under the direction of founder Michael Gosney.
