Diary of a Fat, Middle-aged Housewife

Ludo goes to the supermarket and notices an attractive woman waving at him. She says hello. He's rather taken back because he can't place where he knows her from. So he says, 'Do you know me?' To which she replies, 'I think you're the father of one of my kids."

Now his mind travels back to the only time he has ever been unfaithful when he was married and says, 'Are you the stripper from the bachelor party that I made love to on the pool table with all my buddies watching while your partner... read more

Armadillo Factoids

* Bonobo chimpanzees and armadillos are the only
mammals other than humans that engage in intercourse in the missionary position (face-to-face).

* Armadillos are recorded to be the animal with the most dreams in sleep.

*Armadillos are not blind, but they do have poor eyesight. They rely on their ears and noses more than their eyes to detect food or predators. If you are close to an armadillo, and you stay quiet and stand still, the chances of it not noticing you are there are fairly good.

*The armadillo was, over some resistance, made the
state small mammal of Texas, where it is considered
a pest.

*Armadillos have a very low metabolic rate, which means they don’t produce much body heat. This also means that they are not good at living in cold areas, because they can’t keep warm very well. Armadillos don’t have a lot of body fat, so they must forage for food on a daily basis. Just a few cold days in a row can be deadly to an armadillo.

*In Maine, it is illegal to own an armadillo.

*Armadillos can be kept as pets, although they require
moist ground in which to dig and catch insects. They
are difficult to domesticate fully.

They've Won a Set of Steak Knives!

Took my burner cherry at pdf, making me the luckiest brand new baby burner ever! Enlightened me on the beauty of what it is to be a "real" burner. She never fails to inspire, connect, give, love, and laugh. Her kindness and fun overflows to everyone around her.

I've been meaning to write a testimonial that expresses how much
I value having this woman as a friend, a confidant, a campmate,
and so much more. I don't feel like I have the ability to say how I
appreciate having Armadillo in my life, but while reading through
a book of poetry by one of my favorite poets, I came across this
poem, and was reminded of her, and of of her strength, passion, and
sense of humor. The poem says so much, and is curiously poignant, so
here it is....

COME INTO ANIMAL PRESENCE by Denise Levertov (with a minor edit)

Come into animal presence
No man is so guileless as
the serpent. The lonely white
rabbit on the roof is a star
twitching its ears at the rain.
The llama intricately
folding its hind legs to be seated
not disdains but mildly
disregards human approval.
What joy when the insouciant
armadillo glances at us and doesn't
quicken her trotting
across the track into the palm brush.

What is this joy? That no animal
falters, but knows what it must do?
That the snake has no blemish,
that the rabbit inspects his strange surroundings
in white star-silence? The llama
rests in dignity, the armadillo
has some intention to pursue in the palm-forest.
Those who were sacred have remained so,
holiness does not dissolve, it is a presence
of bronze, only the sight that saw it
faltered and turned from it.
An old joy returns in holy presence.

Armadillo is my elf sister. Tiptoeing oh so softly through the chaos. She whispers to me when I sleep and gives me magic to live by. She is a quiet resilient shimmering prescence that shows me hope, faith and the grace of humor. She has scraped me off the street more than once and has flown me to safety. (even though I threwup in her shoes and slept naked in her anniversary bed!). Fly away home on your light fairy wings sister elf...and shine bright!
