DANCE SANCTUARY:
J.Boogies Dubtronic Science:
The Groove Garden is incredibly pleased to bring to you the first ever Marin appearance of J.Boogies Dubtronic Science!

San Francisco resident and world-renowned DJ/producer J-Boogie challenges the boundaries of the music world across genres, styles, languages and borders throughout his 15-year career. As a truly unique artist, he speaks to his listeners through a diverse musical language created by integrating various techniques and musical genres including dub, soul, hip-hop, reggae, funk, Latin, afro-beat, bhangra, dancehall, disco, electro and house. Constantly revolutionizing the game, creating new sounds, and always keeping fans on their feet, J-boogie has and continues to lift music to its full potential through his distinct approach and one of a kind style.

Tonight his DJ set is hybridized with the "Dubtronic Science" outfit, an amazing and masterful mix up of culture, soul, rhythm and beats featuring a horn section, Latin percussionists and MC's!!

DJ Dragonfly:
Anticipate a great whacking of funk-snaggled grooves, and look-what-the-cat-dragged-in, pawn-shopped dirty beats smacked up with a juicy burst of global expressionism that'll be certain to send you vertically, horizontally and every angle between as limbs take over your GPS and you become lost in a forest of dancefloor madness. Whew!

Tutti Pazzi:
Opening the evening - A generous smile arcs its way through their set and at its corners are a hoist of expansive, funky grooves besmirched with a deliciously accurate assumption about your booty and their basslines. Your derriere returns the smile, albeit vertically, yet definitely from side to side, and up 'n down, repeatedly!

CHILLSPACE LINE UP

Janaka Selekta:
Renowned for his blistering global groove DJ sets and an ability to work a mixing board like a hyped up spice merchant doing speed accounting on an abacus...faders flying, knobs spinning... Tonight though, he deeply enriches the chillspace with the gracious, expansive, deep 'n dubby side of his sets as he exhales chilled out grooves from his masterful debut release "Pushing Air". 10 years in the making! Low slung basslines meet drizzlings of tabla, the acapella and tenor of Jamaican voicings and expansiveness of sitars....be amongst the first to hear!

Outlaw Dervish
Superlatively chilled tonations of digeridoo, percussion, keyboards and vocals loosely weave their way around conscious lyricism on laid back rubbery grooves of loungey funk and spaciously chilled downtempo vibes.

Vir McCoy
Hamsa Lila's string-slingin' whiz kid joins us for a brief cameo to offer Marin a well-earned roast with his Youtube hit "Man From Marin" Now sing along children.</div>

Dear Grooooooovin' Friends:

On the shortest day and longest night of the year, at the mid point of light and dark, while we teeter towards Hope, please join us for a very, very special event we have created for you when the Groove Garden celebrates its inimitable Chillspace vibe by gently pouring that room's contents into the dance sanctuary where we'll gather for an energetic and visual hybrid of groove and chill.

Before you the evening magically unravels with a continual melodic expression, mystic rhythms and an uninsistent bubbling of verve. Your body listens for all-expansive grooves as dancers respond to the muse with the embodiment of that feeling experienced on moving sidewalks: Your movements are effortless as your surroundings are seemingly suspended in a slow motion cinematic experience. Around you hushed conversations mingle with the scent of spicy chai and massage therapists lend expertise to the world-worn. Whether you are here to move or not, you will be steeped in a seductive hum of creativity and like a good cup of tea you will be consumed slowly and deliciously.

Your Line UP - Your MUsic:

Waterjuice (Psychill &amp; Dub)
The S.F. based duo and electronica producers make a rare Marin appearance as they activate the dancefloor with their signature live psydub set, inspiring dancers with new, deep rubbery grooves, sending a pulsing antifreeze of percolating basslines coursing through creative juices to feet, hands, heads and hips everywhere.

Jef Stott (Live Oud/Laptop/DJ set)
Aromatic melodies of the Middle East meet dubtronic dreamscapes as an emotive mood of live Oud and programming becomes the travel guide of the imagination. A magic carpet awaits your departure, your soul is the captain...

DJ Dragonfly (A Drizzle of Downtempo)
Dipping into the downtempo denominator of all genres and ladling out deep helpings of sound and spirit, epic lifts are suspended over epic plunges of hypnotic sway as a sparkle of elements are exhaled by speaker cabinets to the inhale of dancefloor dervishes.

Urban Nature (Live Globalizms &amp; Loops)
Following up on their epic performance in the Groove Garden's Dec. 6th chillspace, the masters of the muse return, this time with special guest Yakouba on Kora (West African harp), Ramesh Kannan on Tablas and Percussion and Todd Boston on Bass, Flutes, Guitar &amp; Percussion, plus samples and loops. Incredibly journey-istic and deeply moving, visually captivating with a soaring grace!

So: I have to say the musical journey What About Me offers viewers is extraordinary and it alone is worth making the effort to see the film. Even if you missed the first film, this follow up to the double Emmy-nominated 1 Giant Leap (2002) is even more remarkable for its music, production, subject matter and indie spirit in the vein of "spiritual cinema"

The production value is fantastic while each and every track both visually and audibly merges the creative infusions and talents of the known (e.g. Zap Mama, Lila Downs, Santana, Baba Maal, KD Lang, Stewart Copeland, Speech, Daniel Lanois, Krishna Das, etc..) with talents of an equally amazing collection of culturally disparate, unknown musicians including the Bibyak Pygmies and others from India, Native America, China, Brazil and global Hip Hop culture. The camera swings with the music and intertwines with the philosophies of the film's Intellectual stars to form a dialogue that speaks to the human condition in its media-bombarded zeitgeist.

Eckhart Tolle, Noam Chomsky, Ram Dass are some of the many of today's nu-edge thinkers behind the delivery of the film's memorable aphorisms and philisophical musings, all of which retain immediate and poignant relevance because they use today’s cultural vocabulary to provide a steadfast insight in to our quest for a better understanding of the human psyche.

After the second showing on saturday we will conclude the event with a dance!!

Hope you can make it out this weekend - please join us!

The Groove Garden: Its a place perched on wilds of the West Coast where the feral elements of untamed dancers gather at the unravel, reweaving the fabric of society's fears into a flag of freakdom where free expression equates to a liberated dancefloor of unfettered moves! All this, of course, translates to an amazingly good time on the dancefloor which is accomplished in the spirit of positive vibration, community connectivity and devotion to unleashing your physio-emotive self (...in other words: you get down HARD)!</div>

 <div>YOWZA:

July is giving way to a very big August, and foremost amongst the many great nights ahead is Friday, August 15th!

From England by way of Italy The Groove Garden presents Gaudi, renowned Six Degrees Records recording artist, producer, sonic wizard and musician.

His appearance at Groove Garden represents his first ever first ever arrival to the West Coast where he'll alchemize live Indo-Arab dub &amp; deep global, tribal breaks into an epic journey during his three hour set!

With a biography that's over two decades long and a dedication to music that's even longer Gaudi constantly reappears from sonic hallowed hollows like some kind of pearl diver, surfacing with new gems that radiate in the setting of the dancefloor. In its most recent instance he buyoed to masterfully remix Pakistan's legendary Qawwali singer Nustrat Fateh Ali Khan tp produce one of Six degrees finest releases "Dub Qawwali"

Actually the album was not so much a remix but a collaboration using material direct from the original multitrack studio! There, he masterfully integrates the rhythmic sensibility of reggae with Qawwali, and floats the whole album on the bass ethos of dub.

So, if you have not heard of Gaudi simply trust us on this one check his video clip for a taste of whats to come as he rocks festivals round the globe!

Greetings to Those Who Groove!

This Saturday night The Groove Garden presents a truly globetrotting experience on both the dancefloor and in the chillspace!

In addition to all the Dragonfly-mixed 3rd-World (metaphorically, not categorically) scrunchy, funky roast of rippin' riddims, techy chompers, housey bumpers and dubby wonders - we have a super-special live set by DJ/Musician/Producer Jef Stott premiering his newly released tracks from "Saracen" (Six Degrees Records).

Now, to sidestep any queries regarding nepotistic journalism we will attempt to separate ourselves from the fact that Mr. Stott is a good friend of the Groove Garden, as is Six Degrees Records, and that this release is one of their finest albums: Deeply captivating, melodically mysterious and movement inspiring.

Saracen's (Saracen refers to the nomads of Syrian and Arabian deserts during the time of the Roman Empire) compositions are like freed doves: Beautiful in flight, symbolic of our yearnings, hopes and wonderment. In this instance imagine the doves are set to flight against a backdrop of twisted, crumbling casbahs and jasmine scented souks where live oud, crackling percussion and mystic vocals are tempered by deft rhythmic programming. Saracen's deep basslines bluster, grip, toss and turn with the tempos. They register as upsurges as garrulous as camels or as gentle as swells of the Arabian Sea. And on the album, Vocalists MC RAI, Reda Darwish, and Hooman Fazly meet listeners at the intersection of an exotic array of melodic and expressive instrumentation, the likes of which are an arsenal to the vocabulary of any Scrabble enthusiast: Riq, Saz, Santur, Oud, Dumbek...

Saracen live (or on the album) is not a dance experience, or a listening experience, its journey beyond your own horizon of flight.

Now...elsewhere:

Out the door, down the hallway of our own bazaar of beats is the chillspace:
Here we have Makuru, where an epic 3-hour set is the expression will be the expression of some of the Bay Area's finest musicians. Featured this evening, we have a musical depository of some wonderful kind of nu-world trade route that sees Bansuri flute, Didgeridoo, Tablas, Electronic drums, Bass, Guitar and Vocals blend in deep, meditative ragas, swirly Asian ambience and African funky groove. Renowned percussionist Geoffrey Gordon and Nepali flute player Manose step in as special guests, joining Anastasi on guitar, Marty Fowler on bass, Jackie Castro on vocals and Peter Warren on drums!

Chill, chai and massage and treats…all on hand, all night, to serve up your needs .

Yo - Just back from producing the week-long Miambient @ the Miami Winter Music Conference (www.miambient.com), and have headed home with an arsenal of new tunes and sneak previews from some of the best producers of organic-stylee global groove. So while you might not know what's new and what's not, what you will know on Sunday afternoon is that your post recovery bliss is the amalgamation of surrendering to a persuasion of percussive percolations, a swirl of supersonic suggestions and the embodiment of beats-as-beliefs.

With that, we invite you to join us THIS SATURDAY, APRIL 5th to freak and funk, catch and release, tunnel and soar through an evening of uplifting and celebratory dancefloor freedom!

groove. See ya on the other side...... and check this clip in the meantime: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_zEk6a9IMWQ

WITH A RUBRIC HUZZZAH! WE PRESENT THE FINAL GROOVE GARDEN DANCE ANNOUNCE FOR 2007 AND ARE PLEASED TO STATE:

On Sunday, December 30th – The Eve of New Year’s Eve - The Groove Garden becomes the re-entry point for all those grooveless individuals that the club scene left as disincarnates. Souls will no longer wander the empty, meaningless nights of nullibiety but descend upon us like angels at the crossing. The Groove Garden becomes a place where an ecstatic threshold of light and sound galvanizes people into the world of the subconscious, tapping into the realm of Possibility and the unforeseen expression of the self .

Beneath the subconscious (and feet) a substratum of bassbins give loft to a thousand dance moves and the terrain becomes wildly unfamiliar. Individuals become lost in the retribalization of their spirit where everything is sacred, and nothing is forbidden (well, dance moves anyway).

With that, dear reader and recipient of this email, consider yourself supremely invited to peak your freak and join us for an evening of sublime escape into whackingly good melodies, super vibey people and whumpin’ sound on a big ‘ol wooden dance floor. It’s a place where you can check out and chill out to live musicianship, give in to the temptations of a massage, dance your taste buds with the virtues of Géneviève’s victuals and meet lotsa good people from near and afar!

AND DON'T FORGET: WEAR ALL WHITE as we flood the floor with a deep hazy swirl of incandescent purples and blues, where dancers glow in an electric arc of vibrating white!

In the Zeitgeist that frames our era, our ethos is the “NOW” of change and revolution, and for us, it begins on the dancefloor…
