Imagine Salon opens in downtown Eugene Wed Aug 20!

<a href="http://people.tribe.net/djlayla/blog/a0e9e33a-c7f1-45f3-84de-8106ca3c8bc7">  						          <img class=" picThumb" src="http://images.tribe.net/tribe/upload/photo/aa6/439/aa643923-37b6-492e-8426-d4c3c4a74542.thumb" width="58" height="78" alt="" />
    </a>
										<div>So its time...

Time to start filling up my books with your lovely manes!

That’s right after much anticipation, the new Imagine Salon is opening Wednesday August 20 (just one week!) in the heart of Downtown Eugene and you can be a part of helping a seed of change take root in our fair Emerald City...

I’d like to share with all of you what excites me about working at this salon.

Number one - the people! Leah, our fearless leader and salon owner, a Sexy Hair platform artist and a visionary. Sage, Leah’s mom with 40 years in the biz and still literally a hot mama in every sense of the word. Rounding out the current team, Sherri, Miranda &amp; Sarah also bring a wealth of experience and style to the table. As a pleasant surprise, I already knew two of our new team members, Lorien who was a beauty school classmate and Tanya a friend of a friend. Also joining us eventually will be Kriya, Frejya, Jessie and the infamous Carlos in November!

Number two - the place! Right where we need to be to help transform and revitalize our city. I just saw the space again today and it is beautiful! The outside a freshly painted bright turquoise, shining like a jewel in its surroundings. We are less than a block from the library and Eugene Station, around the corner from Kesey Square, the McDonald Theatre and Saturday Market, in other words, in the center of it all!

Number three - the attitude. This is really the best part of all. The environment that we will strive to create is one of extreme creativity, and at the same time great compassion and caring for our clients as we would for ourselves. To be a hairdresser can be a joyous means of expression for the stylist and a rite of transformation for the client - I believe that the team here is truly in the transformation business and that’s what makes them so special.

I’m so excited to be a part of this!

So to get me started and fill my books, I’m inviting you all to take $15 off haircuts and $25 off color for the rest of August when you mention where you found me when you book you appointment. Also take an additional $5 off by booking with me BEFORE Aug 20! Remember that you can see pictures of my work at www.laylaslocks.com as well as my facebook photo album (you need to be a friend to view) http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=44272&amp;id=581804993

The NEW Imagine Salon is located at 943 Olive St and after Aug 20 you can call 541-431-1717 to make an appointment for cuts, color, braids, cornrows, dreadlock extensions and natural dreadlock installation, and soon I will offer human hair extensions. Before Aug 20, you can email, message, or call me to make an appointment. The salon is open 11-7 Tu-Fri, 10-6 Sat.

Thanks for all your support and can’t wait to get you in my chair!!!

    </a>
										<div>This summer has been quite the whirlwind so far so I thought I'd update all you in tribeland...

This is my first Saturday (and Friday) off since the 4th of July...

Each weekend Jeffe and I assist a couple through that crazy rite of passage that validates their partnership to family and friends through the use of costume, pagentery and some measure of public humiliation.

Ah.. the ritual of marriage!

As wedding DJs, we were reluctant to take the complete plunge at first. The first few years we were still holding on to our summer weekends, holding our for parties, festivals, events, happenings, etc. This summer after some eye opening education and the realization that we can get creative and have lots of fun with all this, we said yes and dived right in!

So far this summer we've done weddings at stunning mountain lakes, beautiful gardens, next to rivers, at beautiful destination resorts, in huge churches, and later this summer we will head to vineyards and even to the top of Mt. Hood. We have helped to wed teachers, x-ray techs, police officers, graphic designers, computer techs and students. We have watched fathers of brides who seemed like pillars of strength overcome by tears dancing with their little girls, grooms who put up the most machiesmo front lost in the romantic moment, and every bride looking so amazingly radiant because at that moment she allows herself to...

Yes I've become a kind of revivalist romantic this summer, but its hard not to be in my position. I love to help facilitate one of the rituals in our society where almost anyone has a license to feel joy, at least for a few hours. To feel good about the world, the possibility that in the end, love is all that really matters and that to celebrate it together is one of the most important things we can do.

Yes weddings can be silly ritual dictated by tradition, or they can transcend that and become that iconic multi-generational event where everyone from great aunt Marge to 3 year old cousin Billy share the dance floor in celebration. To me, as a DJ, this is the ultimate challenge, and the ultimate joy - playing the great standards of music from the last century to the latest hits, and even drawing from my electronic cataloge if the mood dictates - its total freedom!

So the picture above was from our latest wedding - a 50's Diner theme! We had so much fun! I had the whole getup complete with an awesome poodle skirt and saddle shoes! (I've posted another pic in my gallery).

So I did say jobs, plural in the title, and yes I do have another one, starting this Aug 20...

I'll be posting details soon about the opening of Imagine in its new location on Olive St in the heart of downtown Eugene! Just yesterday I went to Salem and got my hot little hands of my certificate that makes me a LEGAL hairdresser (thank god) so I'm all legit, bona fide and ready to give you a kickass new style for that late summer lull... (If you want an appointment with me, please get in touch - I'm offering a special introductory discount to clients who saw me at IBS)

I'm sooooo excited!

Life is good...</div>

										<div>So its Saturday morning in Boise, ID and I'm eating my own little personal birthday cake for breakfast with my bare hands at the Holiday Inn the morning after the awesome pre-party for Fusion Fest 08, so I guess I'll start right there...

Thank you Jeannie for the wonderful birthday cake!
Thank you Samira for inviting Jeffe and I back for another year of fun!
Thank you to all the rockin' dancers last night - you all put big smiles on my face!
Thank you to the reconstructed fashionistas - what an inspiration!
Thank you to all the supporters and crew who helped the night run smoothly.

Thanks to the earth for the great weather.
Thanks to my body for great health.

and a HUGE thank you to my partner, husband and best friend Jeffe for all your support and love!
...what would I do without YOU!

And my weekend is only getting started! Gonna be one for the books :)</div>

    </a>
										<div>So I know you're out there...

All you friends who've been curious; who have, until now, resisted the allure of the $2 haircut, and color that starts at just $15, you've seen your friends return with great new styles (like those pictured above)...

Thankfully, those days for me are numbered, and they last until next THURSDAY, JUNE 5 to be exact. If you are needing great haircare on a budget, please don't hesitate and contact me now! Once I start working at one of Eugene's finest salons in early August, I will not be able to make such great deals, even for friends - I'll have to pay my rent!

So if you've hesitated, wait no longer!!! Message me here on tribe, email or call me to make an appointment! I'm so excited to transform your hair and help you look and feel great!</div>

<a href="http://people.tribe.net/djlayla/blog/4dbeced5-bb31-44fd-9c42-3f179b474751">  						          <img class=" picThumb" src="http://images.tribe.net/tribe/upload/photo/d2f/85f/d2f85f9c-4725-44ae-af24-338da7dbab53.thumb" width="65" height="48" alt="" />
    </a>
										<div>So its 2pm on Monday and I woke up a mere 2 hours ago...

Wow, so much goodness crammed into 5 days! I can't even begin to summarize, my brain has not caught up yet, but thank god for Laura's yummy Pele's Pride blend, got a nice hot mug of it right now.... mmmmmm. If you didn't get some, you totally missed out! (but she's got a website... www.goddesskaffeina.com)

Highlights? Too many to mention without leaving somebody or something out, but I'm starting to relive it all again as I'm slowly but surely loading all my footage from the weekend onto our computer. I really didn't even mean to get on this crazy thing today, and even when I opened my laptop today, my email had 666 unread messages, so I take it as a sign to not be on this thing too long.

So in general, thanks to all for the creative recharge - everyone inspires me so much and that's what its really all about!

More to come, lots of good video to share and lots of relaxing ahead for me today.

Peace to the tribal massive!

    </a>
										<div>And coming to a dance floor near you!

I know I've been a bit quiet on the DJ front this year, and besides an absolute blowout, knockdown good time in Hawaii at HEMF, its been awhile....

Until last weekend! And the WOW came right back into my life thanks to an excellent show at East:Meets:West! I have to admit that I had just a bit of a strange "fish out of water" sensation as I arrived at the venue that night, a kind of shadow of self doubt as to whether I really belong to this world anymore. Once things got going however, it was more like, why have I been flopping about on the shore for so long? It was great to be back in the swim...

All fish metaphors aside, I'll be at it again this Friday (TOMORROW!) in Corvallis at Magenta Restaurant. Here are the deets:

DJ Layla and Guerrilla Tribal!

Magenta
2nd &amp; Madison
Downtown Corvallis
$5 cover/ 21+
things get started around 8:30

And Guerrilla gals, you will get a free drink and some help from me with your gas to get there (if you're coming from far away that is), 'cause I love you, that's why!

And what does the future hold? Well I will be traveling south for a certain festival in a couple weeks, who knows what craziness will happen!</div>

It says, my husband loves me so much he will sit patiently through my tests at school, let me put perm rods in his head, take a picture and then put it up here for all of you to see.

I love my Jeffe!

Layla's Locks - All you can craft "buffet" (tentatively Sat. April 12)

    </a>
										<div>Hey ladies and gentlemen,

Its spring and I'm needing to get some energy cleared out of my hair/ crafting space, so an idea came to me - an all you can craft "buffet" featuring my vast collection of hair making supplies, beads, yarns, and fun fabric scraps, as well as too many little silk flowers to count just waiting to turn into your next great hairpiece or accessory.

I'm asking for a donation of at least $25 to cover the materials, but also included will be my famous hummus, wine, and other snacky goodness to fuel our crafting, and of course my expertise in making all sorts of fun accessories, as well as some advanced knowledge on how to make realistic loose hair pieces to add length, fullness or color (materials will not be provided due to cost). Its half workshop, half party!

There is also a very good chance of a Blood Moon viewing as well :)

So who is interested? If I have at least 5 willing to spend a day feasting on crafts, food and fun, I'll make it official!</div>

    </a>
										<div>So I think I've finally done it.... created a look so strange I can't even think what to call it. I had a very talented friend at school cornrow my a-line cut up to this kinda faux-hawk style, but I've got my own mullet/ rattail dreadlock revival going on at the bottom there.

So I'm turning it over to you, gentle tribe members, what does it make you think of?

I'll send the best entry a little goodie from my stash, so get creative!

<a href="http://people.tribe.net/djlayla/blog/4fb6dc45-585f-4dce-bc19-d2044f81b826">  						          <img class=" picThumb" src="http://images.tribe.net/tribe/upload/photo/7f4/2a6/7f42a652-03a6-4505-a194-98a75fb1cb9c.thumb" width="58" height="78" alt="" />
    </a>
										<div>After a few unexpected delays, I'm once again open to your orders! My recent trip to Hawaii brought plenty of relaxation and fun, but also the unfortunate recurrence of a nasty case of sciatica. I'm happy to report that I'm well on the way to recovery and ready to help you all achieve another level of fabulosity!

So this new year I invite you once again to make a new hair resolution! Give yourself the freedom to become someone totally outrageous, if only for a day. I would love to help you, in fact, its my job and I take it pretty seriously... Please take the time to browse the galleries for inspiration and don't hesitate to contact me with any questions that you may have.

I'd again (as always) like to send a huge THANK YOU to all my great customers. If you are a customer, I also send out my reminder to send me any pictures that you would be proud to have me display on my website. Also please let your friends who have ogled your lovely dreads know that NOW is the time to order as winter is my slowest season of the year in terms of all my numerous other activities.

Also as a reminder, you can now get some VERY reasonably priced salon services from me as part of my training to become a licensed hairdresser. To make an appointment for haircuts, color, perms, special occasion updos, etc., call the IBS School of Cosmetology at 541-242-1007. The school is located at 138 Main St, in Springfield, and you can make appointments tue-fri afternoons 1-4 pm and saturdays (if you ask nicely...)

Thanks again and remember that you rock, so rock your locks!

										<div>if your got a few spare ones, won't you throw a few my way?

I'm working hard to visualize myself in perfect health 'cause vacation is no time to be out of it. I had a short but severe flareup of my saitic nerve pain that thanks to plenty of painkillers is almost under control for now, but still means that I cannot sit on a plane for 5 hours.

The silver lining - a doctor's note explaining that I need a few more days in Hawaii!

I guess I'll survive somehow!

I should be home by next friday... till then, please send your energy!</div>

										<div>Yes it finally happened...

The prominent $2 haircut sign on the window of my school attracted my first mullet. It was a guy named Earl.

Then I spent way too much time on mulletsgallore.com trying to find a picture. I had no idea about the range of mullets one could have...

    </a>
										<div>Oh boy... May is here (and already half over) and I've been looking forward to this month all year! One of my favorite events and excuses to see some of the greatest tribal dancers in the world is happening - Tribal Fest! It also gives me the perfect excuse to come and be a part of some world class events in California, as well as bring some of these great vibes back home to Eugene! So here we go...

May 19-20 - Tribal Fest 7! - Sebastapol, CA - www.tribalfest7.com

This weekend you can catch me vending my wares as Layla's Locks on the front lawn of the Sebastapol Community center, and Saturday night catch me spinning (and possibly dancing) at one of two great afterparties! I have included details for both:

May 18-19: TRIBAL FEST after parties: COSMIC CASBAH
2 nights in Sebastopol featuring an unbelievable lineup of DJs and dancers. www.tribalfest7.com

AMAR (electric vardo)
DJ DRAGONFLY (groove garden)

Friday night: ELECTRIC - may 18

Bass-jacked world grooves pave a continuous path through the dancefloor with the West Coast's most innovative purveyors of the global sound accented by a tasty smorgasboard of dancers who -in addition to the stellar Tribal Fest performers- will Only be seen on this Wickedly special night! Friday night's floorfill features DJ DRAGONFLY &amp; Vancouver's LADY RA (Beats Without Borders) highlighted by the scintillating shimmer of ARIELLAH, DHOL RHYTHMS &amp; members of ATASH MAYA + more . . .

Saturday night: ECLECTIC - may 19

Saturday is a smackdown cabaret of unique acts in a vaudeville, circus &amp;'Un'BellyDance style! See CERA's new dance collaboration. Watch PONYs Rock the Show! Experience the BECKYs debut, and many Surprises. The dancefloor will be led by DJ LAYLA with AMAR &amp; LADY RA by her side.

Both nights will take place in a Beautifully transformed setting uniquely designed in Groove Garden &amp; Electric Vardo ambience with a bedouin Beat Lounge by SOOOZHYQ, and Gourmet Delights.
Presented by ELECTRIC VARDO, GROOVE GARDEN, MANDALA TRIBAL

The $10 presale tix for Cosmik Casbah - the tribal fest after parties, are almost sold out. We will still have $15 advance tix, plus $25 two-night tix, available until Thursday noon, but this is your last chance to get $10 tix. Most likely by Monday we will have hit the limit and price will go up to $15 (which is still ridiculously cheap considering the lineup).

										<div>you put your clean laundry right into your suitcase.

This weekend we're only going to Portland, 2 hours as opposed to 9 or even 2 days to LA. Our Subee has seen lots of the I-5 corridor in the past year, but for all your beautiful Californians, Canadians and everyone in between, its so worth it!

Who knows when I'll actually get a good chunk of time at home though. I miss my Eugene folks! Strange life I'm living right now...

It looks like I'll be at home in July... anyone wannna do coffee?</div>
