about me
I find myself questioning everything that I've thought about myself for the last 15 years. My motivations, who I am, where I'm going, who I want to be. I'll still be painfully honest, I'll still value strength, I'll still value logic and reason. But much of the rest is up for grabs.

This is not my story. But I like it ......

I was in Wal-Mart buying a large bag of Purina for Lola and was in line to check out. A woman behind me asked if I had a dog........ Duh! I was feeling a bit crabby so on impulse, I told her no, I was starting the Purina Diet again, although I probably shouldn't because I'd ended up in the hospital last time, but that I'd lost 50 pounds before I awakened in an intensive care unit with tubes coming out of most of my orifices and IV's in both arm... read more

I found this while cruising the net, and I just couldn't resist spreading the word:

So, I’m standing at a bus stop and they pull up: a car load of well meaning, bible thumping nut cases that are just frantic! The middle aged, professionally dressed woman rushes forward... She takes my arm and with a trembling voice she asks, “Have you found Jesus?” Her eyes plead with an urgency that is out of proportion to a bus stop.

Now normally I just politely decline the sermon, and free religiou... read more

This is an article posted on the Physics Today web site by Helen Quinn ( www.physicstoday.org/vol-60/...8_1.html ). It looks at how certain words are used with different meanings between scientists and non-scientists, and the problems that arise from such differences. It's not a technical article, so don't be afraid!

"I remember the puzzlement of a friend as my husband described his thesis research—a coincidence experiment. His listener stopped listening; she was thinking about... read more

My birthday is New Year's Eve, but I celebrated it on New Year's Day. I don't like to go out on the drunkest night of the year and Monday is my usual Devil's Point night anyway. Not many people in America look forward to their 40th birthday, but I was stoked for weeks just thinking about it! Most of the people I call Friend were there to share in the festivities (or participate, the little devils!) and made for one of the best nights of my life. My lovely wife bought me a kilt for my birt... read more

This goes out to all my friends and close aquaintences. I want to send all of you a deep down heart-felt thank you. I find myself in a rather odd position in that I've always been the outsider, the loner, never one of the "cool kids". Lately I've been having a lot of my new friends telling me how cool they think I am and I just don't know how to respond! I don't think of myself in those terms, I'm just doing what seems to be natural. I truly am pleased that I can bring pleasure to others... read more
