I've never had a moment with Bob I didn't fully enjoy, or find peace in. Bob is a brother, a chef-in-arms, a master of ceremonies, and a bundle of joy rolled into a beautiful package.

Blog Dobolina

First, I wake up groggy and unsure of the day.
Then, I remember it's a full moon Christmas Eve.
I hold a very special stone in my palm... and cry.

I realize that I have all the love I need inside of me.
All of my friends are a part of me, and all of their love,
Resides in my heart... I love you (me, us, them).

Upon arriving here last week, I felt a strange sense of nostalgia, as if I were once raised here in another life, or something. Before I had returned to Canada in June of 2007, I knew I would be coming back to Taiwan, and while in my home country, visiting family and friends, I could hear this wonderful island was calling for me to come back.

I said no thanks to the taxi driver who approached me for a sale and proceeded to board a bus into Taipei City, where I would stay the night at a fr... read more

Well, I've travelled exactly half a day back in time to return to the land of maple syrup; however, it is temporary. Come December, I'll be settled in Taipei and studying Chinese at the National Taiwan Normal University's Mandarin Training Center. I can't wait...

Everything is different here: the smell, the sound, the sights, the weather, the people, the prices, etc. I'm still getting used to it, and I miss Taiwan in a great way. I haven't spoken Chinese in a few days and it feels strange.... read more

I think this photograph is so hot! There's one amazing beauty, staring down my lens; two people hugging behind her; others dancing with smiles; a good representation of the colours I saw in people; and the mysterious mood of the slow-shutter ghost-like images. My night was kind of hot too. Here's my story in the present tense, for the dramatical effect, of course:

It is Saturday. I'm running on four point five hours of sleep and have two classes that finish at 15:00. I go home and take a n... read more

Rainbow Dance

I want to dance with a rainbow.
Nothing is as wonderful,
Amid the light sprinkle
Of rain.

I want to dance with a rainbow.
She’s sitting up so gently,
Beautifully presenting
Herself.

I will take her hand with a kiss.
If she agrees, I’ll share my colour.
In the gloomy grey of the mist,
We’ll move in a light like no other.

Check out this video. It's of a NY-based a capella/beatbox/R&B group covering Phil Collins on a busy subway. Genius.
There name is Naturally 7 and their website is here: www.n7house.de/

The kick ass video is here:

I love seeing this happen in public places because it so easily breaks down the unnecessary walls people put up everyday.

This is one perspective of Hong Kong. There are many. I got a few: busy, crowded, noisy, polluted, multi-cultural, fun, classy, stylish, full of beautiful people—and may I generalize for a moment here?—which are a bit rude.

Three days was almost enough. I would have liked another day or two, those other adventures outside the central areas. No, I didn't go to Disneyland! Met some friends and went to the highest point to stand in the fog (not a good day for seeing the cityscape. We were tak... read more

There's a joke I figured out in Chinese. A pun, if you will. They love it.

It just so happens that I learned about two words that are exact in pronunciation but different in meaning and on paper (like numerous other words in Chinese). These words must each be preceded by other words for the meanings to be understood. The meanings are (roughly) religion and sleep. So when people ask me what religion I am, I promptly reply:

"Sleeping!"

All my life, I've had a passion for making noise, both controlled noise and nonsensical noise. Playing music relaxes me and creates an inner calm that not many other things can do. Making random noise and funny sounds is a release for me and keeps me laughing at nothing!

I have my first DJ gig tonight at a small pub in Miaoli. Actually, the boss just now sent me a text, asking if I'm still going to play tonight!! It's pretty much the only bar with dancing in Miaoli and a few foreigners ha... read more

Imagine a hundred or so thousand people trying to bottle neck into a subway station a little while after the new year count down. It was impossible to walk at some points amongst the 500,000 people. The fireworks display on the Taipei 101 skyscraper was pretty cool and we found an alright seat, but the sardine metaphor was killing me.

Whew. Home. Safe.

Happy New Year! 新年快樂!

My Taiwanese Christmas was wonderful! Today, me and my qigong classmates chanted Hallelujah, sang a bible song in Chinese, cooked vegetarian food together, exchanged gifts by way of number draw, and also prayed for love ones, ourselves and the higher beings. It was beautiful. My teacher is Buddhist but likes to experience different religions/practices in special celebratory ways. He and the other teacher have taught me very much and I am grateful to know them, as well as everyone who comes to... read more
