Today in Thailand
We will have a general election in the end of this year.
And they have to revise in some of the constitution.
Few hundred monks and thousand peoples as a mob walk along the street.
And they said they want the new constitution define Buddhist to be religion of Thailand.
All peoples in Thailand live as one for long time, Buddhist, Christian or Muslim are live together, no problem.
Everyone are Thai and we have a great king who is the one.
But now these peoples want something crazy. Yes I think so...
If we define Buddhist to be religion of Thailand.
How can we answer the Cristian, Muslim, Hindi. Are they still Thai???
I really don't like this peoples mind.
No conclusion today.
I hope it will not happen.
I wish they don't put shit thing in the new constitution.
Best Regards,
P
Hi P,
Yes, I agree with you. Religion should be 100% free choice and not made into a law.
The subject of religion is not a free topic of discussion in America as religious beliefs are all over the map from those who love Satan to those who love space ships and any conversation generally turns into a fight. Many Americans talk about a man/god called Jesus as if they truly believe in him and his ways. Unfortunately, those who do all the talking, do little practicing and seem to act almost opposite to the belief system. It's the same way in all religions.
You have to realize that the people who march for such things are doing
so because they truly believe they have the best belief system and that everyone would benefit from having to follow it. In America, we are supposed to be the most tolerant and open to all religions and we are also supposed to have 100% separation between church and state; however, we have many people who call themselves Christian in order to gain popularity. These same people would change large blocks of our
Constitution in a minute if they could.
As soon as religion becomes part of government, the people are divided and the radical extremists take over. Fortunately, for you, Buddhists are peaceful and they follow more of an ethical philosophy than a god fearing religion such as Catholicism or Christianity. Catholics and
Christians love peaceful Jesus and at the same time, many support violent wars of aggression, weapons of mass destruction, and guns for everybody.
I prefer logic, the ethical treatment of all people, and belief in my own limited self, over any religion or faith based lifestyle. As long as I am free to live and speak my beliefs, I am happy to hear about anyone else's. People can dream about space ships all they want as long as they don't tell me I have to worship the spaceman.
It would be interesting to know your views on the Buddhists, since we have almost zero Buddhists in America.
