I've got the fam. I've got my books. After that it gets pretty thin. If you don't care about either, this page won't hold much interest.
Right now I'm doing a last-ish edit of Rhyme Scheme, my first full work of fiction. The rights to Ghetto Celebrity, my 2003 literary debut, have finally been wrested from its first publisher. Look for the paperback... I dunno, after something commercial happens around my name/work. There's a special work-for-hire project due out in September, through Ballantine. And I'm in the preliminary stages of planning the fourth and fifth books.
Other than alternately spacing out and staring furiously into a computer, I lead a life of some substance. That would be the fam. There's my sister's brood up in Sactown and those three seeds of mine in LA. I got a girlfriend, an ex-wife, a baby mamma. In a way, every single one of them is fam.
Beyond these things and a few close friends, there's little space in my brain, not to mention the schedule. Used to be that one regular exception to Books and Stuff was a little downtown speakeasy. Used to smoke weed or do whatever with a singular kind of LA chillness. But the energy feels different lately. I'm not so sure I wanna hang. If you know of a nice spot that might rouse me from my early bedtime...
Anyway, that's how I get down. Thanks for checking me out. See ya on the playa. (Maybe.)

I love him. As a writer, a father and a friend.
He is a wonderful part of my life and it's better for him being in it.
I try to read everything he writes.
I'd read his grocery lists for the laughs if I could.

As read my brother, you got skills. Congratulation on the birth of your daughter. May she come up in a better world than we.

I wanna, meet him and touch him and tie him up and make him revise GC one more time.
Kind and smooth and always real with his words to me.

Not meant to be taken literally, sum of the time.

I have known Donny S. for about a year. We were briefly housemates. A lot of people I have met think they are very smart (Stanford baggage)--a few are. But Donny is way beyond that. He is a connected genius, almost unheard of. He can engage on politics, sports, music, listening as much as he talks. Hours will go by and its barely started. If you missed his book "Ghetto Celebrity, Searching for My Father In Me", run, do not walk, and get it. Although the language can be raw (at least for a sheltered girl like me), the meaning flies for anyone who is interested in the interface between self and family.

Peace and Love to All,
I have had the pleasure of exchanging casual notes with this Brother. I had no idea that he is so talented. he has joined a few of my early attemps as a tribe moderator.
However I was directed to his book, man, It exploded my mind. The clear concise thoughts and feelings he shared validated me.
In one of my previous lives I was a photo journalist. The chapter in the book where you attempted to interview Albert Belle, was acurate.
I have had the extact same experince with that level of `persona.
Keep on keepn on...

I'm a writer, regardless of how I try to skip out on the game. Like that celluloid gangster said, "Just when I think I'm out, they pull me back in."
"More of what used to rock your world"
"My first book, Ghetto Celebrity: For Free!"
"My memoir, Ghetto Celebrity"
"A tribe for the adventurous of mind and spirit!"

My friend Heather took this picture in the summer of 2003, when I lived in a sweet Mt. Washington set-up.

Thanks, my friend. It's an uphill struggle, pushing a book in this day and age.
The good news is that a lot of people really respond to the book —

Anybody remember a fun little Tribe space called Wet Daddy's Links o' da Day? For nearly two years a great cross-section of Tribe folk hung out and talked about sex, race, art, politics, sports and every little thing — all day every day.
Well,...
