Well readers, This is James Keys the "Underground Conscierge" of S.F. Here we are once again on the “Underground” page. This month I have decided to continue with “part two” of the Harmogen Records piece I wrote last month in June. As you may remember Harmogen Records, if you read last months' article, is a collective of young individuals who gather together to create music.

Well to continue on with this article, I decided to feature WiseProof Avatar?, Celena Madrone (aka DJ Diosa), and Dakini Star on my cable television show San Francisco My Way.

So okay that should be easy enough, film them in an interview, yet everyone does that. Not the Underground Concierge though, I had to make this difficult. So I decided to make a “music video”. Now just how do I do this? Well I got a camera and some film. And I tried to decide on what I wanted the entire video to look like.


Some thoughts were to film inside the Sunset Youth Services located on Judah Street (they have this great climbing wall), and a bank of computers on the main floor next to the pool table. ?The climbing wall is an interactive play-wall that the guys and gals that go to Sunset Youth Services can climb up (under supervision) and helps the students with exercising, bonding with staff and the other students, and most importantly learning to trust. ?And let me tell you it was great fun! ?There is much to be said about learning to trust at an early age. ?

Learning who to trust and how to trust them and learning to trust your peers can lead to exceptional adult qualities. ?The parents and students come in and "hang out", they have lunch and light snacks (you can never really fill the stomachs of teenagers) and the pre-school kids where also delightful. ?Very comfortable in the Center and playing on the pool table. ?There is always an adult present and Sunset Youth Services had that whole "village as a community" vibe happening. ?It was inspiring. ?Ron and Dawn Stueckle deserve a HUGE round of applause and?as?many?volunteers?as?they?can?bring?in.??


And?now?back?to?the?shoot. ?I received a phone call from a friend of The Goddess Alchemy Project and Harmogen Records saying that dancers would be included in the shoot. Okay, that sounds fine I think. I could film the dancers from two different angles and then edit the entire performance together.

I find a person to help me edit the entire piece (we may collaborate on another project) and I am feeling pretty good about the music video. The day arrives and I head out to the video shoot. I meet up with WiseProof Avatar?, Celena Madrone (aka DJ Diosa), and Dakini Star and also Royal Kent and Wendy Loomis the co-founders of Copus Multimedia.

I start out by interviewing everyone and getting as much information as I can regarding the projects each is working on, the way that the met each other and how these projects came to fruition. Next I try to “lay down the tracks” on my film. This actually means I tried to record the music and I was having technical difficulties and had to do the entire project the hard way.

So after all of the music is done I still have to make sure that everyone is upbeat. This is a film shoot and I remind them all that “when you become famous this will be the time when it was fun”. Actually that's very true and we continue the shoot by filming out on Judah.

Along the way we meet some fans and talk about the arts here in San Francisco., The day is overcast, just perfect for filming. We wind up the shoot and I head on home for the long process of editing. What I have here is just a bit of the “music video”. Now this is not what will be shown on my television show, this is just a taste of what is in stored. Music Video 101 is not a class in “Video Making”, it is my walk through the artistry of art. ?I was not able to any of the video on the site . ?I hope you will tune into Cable Channel 29, on Saturday July 9, 2005 for the show featuring the Sunset Youth Services, The Goddess Alchemy Project , Harmogen Records and?Copus Multimedia.
