Bloggin

It was not always certain. Tis a long story and I will get it written and post it here as soon as I get to Baja. I think Roch was getting back at me for dragging him across the Sierras in an "art plane" from BM to the Summer of Love and back by asking me to join him in delivering a "rent a wreck vessel" across the Atlantic. Is this what people do when they grow up?

Now I'm off to the Azores to meet a 132' trawler and cross the Atlantic to San Marteen and Cartagena, Columbia. The trip can be checked out at www.expeditionyacht.org . It is quite a fantastic idea. In Cartagena she'll be fitted out with submarines, a helicopter, new superstructure and interior plus all the gear needed to pull off some pretty serious and fun expeditions. Will the adventures never cease? That's rhetorical, gang. Roch was the pilot that landed us after dark on the playa, a no-n... read more

The 40th Anniversary of the Summer of Love was an incredible reunion. We flew in from Burning Man for a few hours to bring salutations from the Man to 2b1/Golden Gate Park's celebration. I am now aware of why one doesn't take an art car (one very tired 1956 4 seat Piper) a mile and a half above the earth and try and make it go 160mph. We did and it's not a cruise on the playa. The vibe was great and we made it back in time for the Temple burn. Thank you David, Tim and friends for the temple a... read more

This album will be released in February and available through Joules Graves .com and CDbaby.com. Seventeen of the Northwest's activist folk singers perform the songs of Joules Graves. 100% of the proceeds from the sale of this album go to help pay for Joules' medical expenses. Make yourself feel good twice, once when you buy it and then every time you hear it. I guess that's more than twice, but, you know, artistic license.
The wonderful artists who donated their efforts are: Francine Allen,... read more

Joules Graves is struggling with MS. For a year now I have been working on an album of Northwest Festival musicians, the best, singing Joules' songs. This is the result of a conversation we had a couple of years ago, in which she spoke of having a long standing dream that others would sing her songs. After hearing of her MS and the resulting depression, it seemed like a natural segue to make her dream come true. I have never worked on a more joyous collaboration. All performers, studios, grap... read more

What would you put in your two duffle bags if you were going to live on the beach for three months?

30 days until I set my feet in the sand at Shipwrecks. 30 days until that first frosty beer, they taste better at lower latitudes, find that lost shot of Tequila, it's the lime and salt that kills you, pick up the first of 40 books and aaaaaaaaahhhhh. Am I weird that I take a little playa dust and spread it in my campsite every year? Don't answer that! ... You're all invited, you just need to find it. Sort of like the Punani Trim Parlor next year, just hints as to where it is. Like that old s... read more

Goddess Peace or If you love patriarchal religions maybe you should cover your ears!

I am that scared boy, 4 years old, sitting at the top of the stairs, peeking through the railing, watching my mother being physically abused.

I am that crying boy, 5 years old, whose mother ran away.

Young men, do you know that current scientific research shows that excessive “machismo” attitude is what one does to compensate for a lack of testosterone, not a surplus?

Over 5,000 in a spiral dance of empowerment after a prayer in common with hundreds of thousands worldwide, heady stuff. Sunday with STS9, Ozomatli and Zap Mama. Give me a break! It doesn't get any more diverse or any better.

Once again, the best kept secret in NW festvals was a blast. Great vibe, no over crowding, hot showers, grassy seating, good sound, great line-up, what's not to like!
