(blog entry)
So this will be short, because I'm still very upset. Josh and I are not going to Cape Verde. The medical office called yesterday and said that one of the medications I am taking is not available in Cape Verde. Remember, of course, that they knew t...

Josh and I leave for Africa in exactly one month. It's been a total whirlwind since first receiving and accepting our invitation for service in Cape Verde, and it doesn't look like it's going to slow down any time soon!
I have a strong suspicion...

(blog entry)
Since we received our nomination for Cape Verde, Africa, I've been tossing the idea around in my head to bring some hoops with me as a way to break the ice/make a fool of myself/entertain the kids and adults, especially when I'm first learning the...

The medical office called yesterday and said that one of the medications I am taking is not available in Cape Verde. Remember, of course, that they knew this and that originally it was one of the "accomodations" they were making, and thus we thought that is why we were going to Cape Verde in the first place. But someone must have dropped the ball and now, 11 days before we leave, we are no longer goin...

Since we received our nomination for Cape Verde, Africa, I've been tossing the idea around in my head to bring some hoops with me as a way to break the ice/make a fool of myself/entertain the kids and adults, especially when I'm first learning the languages and trying to integrate into the community. This may later develop into a larger "secondary" project, but for now I was hoping to use hooping (he he) as an ice breaker - I know folks that bring cool stuff like kites tend to become heroes t...

Cape Verde is a string of small islands 375 miles off the coast of West Africa. It's quite small and isolated so you may have to look hard to find it :o) No worries though - Cape Verde sports some of the best beaches in the world and temperatures range from about 75 - 85 al...

Thank you thank you thank you all so much for your kind words and messages, your thoughts and prayers, your love, energy and funky chicken dances.
Today I received word from my Peace Corps contacts and - it's official - I am medically approved!!! After reviewing my medical records, the medical director stated that I am fit for Peace Corps service.
However, he did stipulate that I would need to go somewhere that treatment for asthma was an option in case of an emergenc...
