Where should I go Sunday? (Photography)

I am participating in a photography contest of sorts on Sunday, July 20.

The categories are:
--- Family and Kids
--- Active Seniors
--- Youth Culture
--- Business and Technology
--- Still Life

WHERE should I go to take photos? I live in San Jose... But should I venture out? San Francisco? Monterey? Santa Cruz?

I have not decided what category I want to pursue, but my thought is that the "Business and Technology" catagory would have the least amount of competition... since there are few businesses open on Sunday.

I'm finally feeling healthy again... and we just scored passes to see Batman in IMAX on Friday, courtesy of a local CEO in Silicon Valley who is giving away tickets.

And, it's in the middle of the day, and I have no appointments! (I do have to come back and work Friday night, but it will probably be with a smile and a glass of red wine)

Saturday I went to the Frontier Village reunion. Frontier Village amusment park closed in 1980. The site is now a San Jose city park (Edenvale Park) and the adjacent "Hayes Mansion" is a conference center and hotel.

The reunion had many former employees, some artifacts, binders of old programs and memories. We were treated to a couple of gunfights and a walking tour of the grounds.

Well, it was damn-hot on Saturday around here... but we were smart enough not to join the hordes heading to the beach.

But with Sunday a wee bit cooler, we looked for something interesting to do. I chose to visit the "Los Trancos Open Space Preserve." We picked a short trail that provided some educational information about the San Andreas fault, and gave us some much-needed (although mild) exercise.

While the general idea is to walk the dogs (and ourselves) every day, it doesn't always work out.

Sunday I picked a particular destination, away from our normal route... We ended up following our noses to the local pizza place across from our house... since the dogs were with us, we ate outside... but it was particularly cold that evening.

Photo is along Branham Lane, looking west; our house is not quite visible at the center; left side of the street.

Rakkasah 2008

I only attended the Saturday session of Rakkasah West 2008 this year... it was a long day, but it went by so fast.

After seeing examples elsewhere, I've added a "friends that I've actually met" section here on Tribe. That seems to be most of you. After Rakkasah, I was only able to add "Chelle" to the list. Chelle is a dancer, and I have seen her before (and Roger) at DDF, but did not interact there. After DDF, I found Chelle on Tribe, and now I've met her in person.

I saw Miles at Rakkasah, but didn't stop and say 'hi' so he doesn't make the 'met' list yet. Then there's people that I've met in real life, but maybe I haven't realized they were on Tribe already.

Anyway, it was nice to see familiar faces at Rakkasah (even my niece showed up!). The new venue has it's pros and cons.

What a day (Saturday, 16 Feb.)
The goal was to get the bathroom painted. It's been awhile. And there are a few holes to patch, scrubbing etc. And since the room is so small, it really on practical for one person to work in there at a time...

We're watch a dog that's not ours... just for the weekend. BIG dog. He scares the parrots... lunges at the cages! All the cats have taken off... including 'my' cat (my little shadow)... don't know where they've gone (they have outdoor access). This big dog is always following us around the house.... always under foot. I now call him "Under-Dog" because he's always UNDER my feet!

The passport renewals are ready to send off... $75 each. Ouch! Wish I had somewhere to go to use them.

I'll get a new toy via UPS on Monday... something to look forward too.

The hidden box of See's candy has been found. Finally. Too bad they don't provide a 'map.'

Tired. Tired of cleaning walls, ceilings; patching holes, sanding. Repair the window sill (termites). Oh! I got the electrical socket wet... when it started 'fizzing' and putting off smoke (steam?)... I backed out of the bathroom... with water all over the floor. Then POW! A small ball of orange flame came out of the outlet. About the size of a softball. Big BANG! And then some of the power went off... Karen's computer: Dead. Drew's TV: Dead. The working TV rebooted itself and ended up on a different channel. Howcome no one came to check if I was still alive? Guess I won't do that again. I'm not intending on getting a Darwin Award.

Sunday we start again... paint & stuff obtained at the hardware store... including new electrical sockets with GFI (!!!)

I met everyone that I intended to meet at GG Faire, and a few I didn't realize were going to be there!

Like Les for example. "Hey, that looks like Les! I didn't know he was going to be here!" Yes he was.

The photographers were out in force for the resumption of the "Model Hangout."

Hosted this time by the fabulous Lloyd Watts at his spacious apartment in Mountain View, photographers and models were able to socialize and even get in a photo session or two.

Although I've only been to a few of these, many of the names were familar to me from Tribe and One-Model-Place (www.OneModelPlace.com).
