saturday night i think i had the absolute worst sushi ever. i would hate to think a place would serve bad sushi, but it given that the interior of the place was far from any typical sushi house i had been to, i had my hopes the place would be a fantasic little gem... the yellowtail i bit into still had bits that were still frozen - probably been frozen for a while. the tuna just wasn't right. the salmon had browned edges (leave your salmon in the fridge for a while, gets browned edges). it was bad. the waiter pushed the giant oyster special on my friend- they arrived and - i have never seen oysters like this before. they were disguisingly huge. generally given something overly large, esp in seafood, means its fairly of old age. eating old age shellfish just doesn't taste good at all... i dunno, it was just bad. clement and i think around 8th, north side, called mayosashimi or something. don't go there.

i just got one of those orange stickers on my old car which i am trying to sell. it basically says i am in violation of the law because my vehicle as both- has been left longer than 72hours on the street and, has not moved more than 1/10th of a mile for more than 3 days. this is crazy. i can understand the city doesn't want to have junk vehicles left in the street, but 72 hrs and 3days (i don't understand why not just one or the other?) i think is a little too short. i would say one month might be more reasonable?

there is so much miscommunication - and it is always a relief to clear things up. i have two old tracks (old as in 2003) that have been sold to a label before the summer. i have been in the dark all summer and fall about release dates and direction of the label. a week ago i finished a new track with a new style that i am really excited out and showcased it online. within hours i got replies and new label offers and was pretty set on going through these new channels for release. after letting it meddle in my head and then finally hearing back from A&R from the label i am already releasing on, i am now clear in my head about what to do.

i had no idea about what labels had to really do. guess that is why i am an artist and not running a label. i was pretty nieve to think i could finish a track and hear it release in 3 months.

i went to Ireland's 32 bar on Geary last thursday night to support some friends of mine who just moved out here from the northeast. they are a new band called 'pop etiquette', kinda a mix between synth/future pop/rock. two keyboardists, a guitarist, switching between the keyboardists for vocals and an ipod running the beat. i was pretty impressed. so impressed that i took the initiative to record them live saturday night at a friend's house party. i'm working on the recording this week, along with a whole slew of other projects. the last thing i need is to land another film score...

i just started a new myspace account. it is to try to get my music out a bit more. the link is here: www.myspace.com/chadwickstrange. myspace can be buggy sometimes, which is why at the time of writing this the page will not load.

otherwise it's a slow sunday. i am obsessed with wikipedia. and for someother reason i decided to pick up GIS again. i don't know why, but perhaps it just looks cool.

things i need to do:
go to the www.thinker.org/deyoung/index.asp. go camping near a glacier. eat more veggies. dream more. meet more people. have fun. be nice to sand kernels.

i was in the bathroom stall at a caf? on the NW corner of fulton and divisadero- and i read "don't be oblivious". sometimes when i do redundant tasks like order a cup of coffee i am infact pretty oblivious. maybe it is the fact that i am caffiene-deficient which leads to my obliviousness. naw i think i just need to have a good time all the time...

ok, resfest and love parade this weekend. hmm, what do i choose? ooh this is hard. i think resfest. (removed personal flame here)

so yea, i am going to resfest and checking out jackson. killer music, new style, amazing, as well as catching some eye-catching short digital films. screw the parade.

i have been rethinking music lately. as an artist you can 1) make music for yourself; 2) make music your an audiencel 3) make music for your A&R. i have to give much respect to Future Sound of London- my all time favorite electronic artists. They took onto the scene in 1989, and for the next few years under many monikers put out very well received dance tracks, esp for that particular time. For example, the rare Indo Tribe - Owl, is still an amazing track to this very day. Anyhow- they did that then moved to Lifeforms, a more artistic quest for what they wished to develop. Unfortunatley their A&R started bullying them around in the midst of Lifeforms / Expander / ISDN albums under a Virgin records contract, so they put out the amazing Amorphous Androgenous moniker, Tales of Ephedrina as a, 'hey screw you, we will do what we want'. The ambient/dancefloor Papua New Guinea on Expander, blew the charts away, showing that even if FSOL took an artistic new direction in lieu of A&R pressure for dancefloor material, their music was still well received. Tales of Ephedrina was more abstract, no real dance-floor orienated material. Dead Cities was the last on Virgin, an amazing work. They conquered electronica.

After a few years, they return, no longer as FSOL but as Amorphous Androgenous, and now with a sound of psychedelic rock of the 60s all bend via the creative modes of Gary and Brain, formerly of FSOL. And their music shocked the casual fans of FSOL. A lot of fans were disgusted.

Well they are making music for themselves. And it's great that they can reinvent themselves and say, 'we are not fsol, we are aa, and we are making music the way we want too'. it's not easy to do. especially to completely reinvent your creative outlets. respect to amorphous androgenous.
