about me
I'm a professional musician, student for life, I take music seriously and I love it. I perform and practice music pretty much everyday and teach...I wouldn't have it any other way. I also enjoy life, what it may have in store for us

So it was awhile since the last entry, we did two shows since the last time I wrote up here.
Osaka - This show was stellar, and totally worthy of releasing as our next record. There's something special about Osaka, I don't know what it might be, but both of the Kosmic Renaissance shows we've had there (2004 and 2005) have been exceptionally dramatic, and controlled.
Asagiri Jam - This gig was the clincher, and we flew back here to San Francisco the next day. We were literally playing at...

It's John Coltrane's Birthday. I love John, and I wish I could've told him that.
Well, last night was our show in Kyoto. I can honestly say that I am a big fan of Kyoto now. The place very much reminded me of San Francisco, and we ended up having the best vegetarian meal of my life. This is saying a lot coming from a diehard carnivore like myself. The vegetarian meal I had was epic, and all cooked by Shing02's good friend, professional vegetarian cook, and gracious host, Shin-ya. He not o...

last night was our show at the Liquid Room in Ebisu. We shared the billed with Flying Rhythms which is percussion band, with live dubbing done by the top dub artist in Japan. Cool coincidence, is that Flying Rhythms is also performance at the Asagiri Jam the same day that Kosmic Renaissance is, so we will get to hang out with those guys again.
Tonight, we perform at the Apple Store in Ginza. The Apple Store performances are pretty cool, but I'm a little disappointed that Apple doesn't try ...

Our show tonight started @ 2am, and now it's 5am, and I'm hoping for 5 hours of sleep. We had a stellar performance tonight, and the young music fans of Nagoya were really lit up. Thanks to club RADIX!
Tomorrow, we have a very "big and important" show. We are performing at the Liquid Room in Tokyo. This venue is off the hook! It's a dope ass live music venue that is ultra stylin'. On stage, we will have 4 video cameras recording us, a live badass graphix slideshow by Hiraku Suzuki, and we'...

Anindoda, I feel that words are inadequate for me to express how much your unforgettable performance this night, Friday, September 2nd, inspired me. At my house you brought the most beautiful spirit of musical rhythm...that spirit, speaks directly to my own heart, and I am forever grateful for you gracing my family's house with your incredible artistry. I can only hope to reflect the depth of my gratitude by promising that I will work harder even now. With your tabla, you have lifted me towar...

alright, so the San Jose Jazz fest was fun. Michelle Amador's set was the perfect warm up for Jason Moran trio, Nasheet Waits is ridiculous! Kosmic Renaissance closed out the night for the diehard fans. It was a very out there set, but people seemed to dig it (the ones who stayed!)
In other news! I'm attending the Zakir Hussain masterclass this week, and it's freakin' off the hook. I am so amazed at what a good teacher Zakir-ji is, you know we all believe him to be the top rhythmicist, but...

Let me try and explain what makes this day remarkable. I have to go down to San Jose for a gig at the San Jose Jazz Fest, with Kosmic Renaissance. It's a big show for us, and the first festival size gig here in the US.
As a side note, I am working quite seriously with Marc Cary right now, and I am moving to New York in hopes of taking our work to the next level.
The funny thing about tonite, is that Marc Cary's ex-rhythm section, Nasheet Waits and Taurus Mateen are sharing the same bi...

Well, this is a pretty exciting week. Tomorrow (tuesday) The Supplicants perform @ 12 Galaxies, a cool bar in the Mission. The group plays so rarely nowadays, that I am very excited to see these guys. The audiences are also nice to see, but sometimes very few people show up, and since that sort of thing can get under my skin sometimes, I try and only think about the great chance to play music with The Supplicants again. I've also invited a friend to come and sit in with us (which is very infr...

August 5th, my Dad's birthday. We all say it, but I'm not lying when I say that my dad is actually the best, he's really the most smart, kindest, and most loving person I know and probably will every know. Dad, you are the man, and I'm proud to be the fruit of your potent seed, even though that's a little inappropriate to write up here.
Anyway, Kosmic Renaissance Japan tour dates are tentative but as of now:
9/16 Chiba show
9/17 Nagoya show (w/ Nagoya Apple instore)
9/18 Tokyo show at...
