<div>Hey all you hard working clowns!
Congrats again!!

Kinetic Theory is a circus school in walking distance from my house. Stephanie, the owner, is wonderful! She sent me the news letter yesterday and I have signed up for a class with stephan. I can't afford it right now but I can't afford not to go. Time to exercise my clown muscle and get to work with Stephan!! Bringin my hoop to play around with Hoop Doll Doe. I know you are all tried and regrouping from the shows and tear down but I figured I'd let you know the details of the class.

August 9- Clown Master Class with Stefan Haves

This Class focuses on the performer and the relationship with the public in a comedic framework. Workshop will identify and maximize each members honest, and unique sense of humor in relation to fellow performers enabling a tangible direct positive outcome from the audience. Improvisational techniques will be explored to understand the very simple yet not easy sense of humor we all must foster as a comic performer, live, on stage, in the here and now.

For six years Stefan Haves directed the world-renowned dinner/circus Teatro Zinzanni in San Francisco and Seattle and is a Casting Associate with Cirque du Soleil responsible for casting physical actors and clowns. He assistant directed the 2007 touring show, Kooza, in the areas of acting and clowns. He is currently a creator, assistant director, and comic act designer on the New York 2010 Vaudeville show.

He was creative consultant for the Tony Award-winning Broadway hit "Fool Moon" starring the “Clown Prince” Bill Irwin and David Shiner, long featured performer with Cirque Du Soleil. Shiner, one of the world’s masters of the art, remarked in the Los Angeles Times, “Stefan is a great help in my work and he's a creator in his own right. He has a great eye for the style and he's one of the rare people who's trying to bring this style of work back."

Haves’ education includes Dell'Arte’ School of Mime and Comedy and the “school of hard knocks” as a juggler and street clown in Paris. He credits Philippe Gaulier, for years master teacher at the Lecoq School of Movement, as “his true teacher.” For more info about Stefan visit: www.stefanhaves.com

										<div>Phenomenal Woman

Pretty women wonder where my secret lies.
I'm not cute or built to suit a fashion model's size
But when I start to tell them,
They think I'm telling lies.
I say,
It's in the reach of my arms
The span of my hips,
The stride of my step,
The curl of my lips.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

I walk into a room
Just as cool as you please,
And to a man,
The fellows stand or
Fall down on their knees.
Then they swarm around me,
A hive of honey bees.
I say,
It's the fire in my eyes,
And the flash of my teeth,
The swing in my waist,
And the joy in my feet.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

Men themselves have wondered
What they see in me.
They try so much
But they can't touch
My inner mystery.
When I try to show them
They say they still can't see.
I say,
It's in the arch of my back,
The sun of my smile,
The ride of my breasts,
The grace of my style.
I'm a woman

Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

Now you understand
Just why my head's not bowed.
I don't shout or jump about
Or have to talk real loud.
When you see me passing
It ought to make you proud.
I say,
It's in the click of my heels,
The bend of my hair,
the palm of my hand,
The need of my care,
'Cause I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

<div>I live in a house bus on the west coast of New Zealand with the kindest, most loving and adorable man called Simon. He and I met in March here in NZ and spent less than 24 hours together... and we just knew, the way you hope to know things like this and we were right!! Love at first sight is, I can truely say ... possible!! I wake up to the sound of the ocean and turn right around to view the most beautiful mountian range that encloses/ protects this small town... saves it just for us and those who pass thru. (there are only about 40 people that live in the township and about 4000 in the surrounding area.)The small ness suits me, a part of my personallity that I haven't been in touch with since 99' when I lived in Hawaii for 6 mo. Simon and I talk and go for walks, catch up with the locals and it's all so easygoing. We geek out together and learn from eachother everyday we are quite a well matched pair . Same birthday too.. yeah weird I know. We're figureing things out as we go along I am officially trying to stay thru the summer. I'll be putting out a post with details for sub letting my flat. I want to see this thru and now with fingers crossed I wait for news from home. So there you have it... I love you guys so much .. I know that if it wasn't for you all I wouldn't be here right now.

Thank you... xoxo

'If this isn't nice, what is it?' - Kurt Vonnegut

<div>Kurt Vonnegut Famous Quote:
"I've had a hell of a good time. I tell you, we are here on
earth to fart around and don't let anybody tell you
any different."

Graduation Speech:
There are three things that I very much want to say to the Class of 1994 in
this brief hail and farewell. They are things which
haven’t been said enough to you freshly minted
graduates norto your parents or guardians, nor to me,
nor to your teachers. I willsay these in the body of
my speech, I’m just setting you up
forthis.First, I will say thank you. Second, I will
say I amtruly sorry - now that is the striking novelty
among the three. Welive in a time when nobody ever
seems to apologize for anything; theyjust weep and
raise hell on the Oprah Winfrey Show. The third thing
Iwant to say to you at some point - probably close to
the end - is, ''Welove you.'' Now if I fail to say any
of those three things in the body ofthis great speech,
hold up your hands, and I will remedy
thedeficiency. And I'm going to ask you to hold up your
hands thisearly in the proceedings for another reason.
I first declare toyou that the most wonderful thing,
the most valuable thing you can getfrom an education
is this - the memory of one person who could
reallyteach, whose lessons made life and yourselves
much moreinteresting and full of possibilities than
you had previously supposedpossible. I ask this of
everyone here, including all of us up here on
theplatform - How many of us, how many of you, had
such a teacher?Kindergarten counts. Please hold up
your hands. Hurry. You may want to rememberthe name of
that great teacher.I thank you for being educated.
There, I've thankedyou now; that way I don’t
have to speak to a bunch of nincompoops. Foryou
freshly minted college graduates, this is a puberty
ceremony longoverdue. We, whose principal achievement
is that we are older than you, have to acknowledge at
last that you are grown-ups, too.there are old poops
possibly among us on this very day who will say
thatyou are not grown-ups until you have somehow
survived, as theyhave, some famous calamity - The
Great Depression, World War II,Vietnam, whatever.
Storytellers are responsible for this destructive, not
to say suicidal, myth. Again and again in stories,
after someterrible mess, the character is able to say
at last, ''Today, I am awoman; today I am a man. The
end.''When I got home from World War II, my Uncle
Danclapped me on the back, and he said,
''You’re a man now.'' So I killedhim. Not
really, but I certainly felt like doing it.Now you
young twerps want a new name for yourgeneration?
Probably not, you just want jobs, right? Well, the
media do us allsuch tremendous favors when they call
you Generation X, right? Twoclicks from the very end
of the alphabet. I hereby declare you GenerationA, as
much at the beginning of a series of astonishing
triumphs andfailures as Adam and Eve were so long
ago.I apologize. I said I would apologize; I
apologizenow. I apologize because of the terrible mess
the planet is in. Butit has always been a mess. There
have never been any ''Good Old Days,''there have just
been days. And as I say to my grandchildren,
''Don’tlook at me. I just got here myself.''So
you know what I’m going to do? I
declareeverybody here a member of Generation A.
Tomorrow is another day for all of us.Having said
that, I have made us, for a few hours atleast, what
most of us do not have and what we need so desperately
-I have made us an extended family, one for all and
all for one. Ahusband, a wife and some kids is not a
family; it’s a terriblyvulnerable survival
unit. Now those of you who get married or are
married, when you fight with your spouse, what each of
you will be saying to theother one actually is,
''You’re not enough people. You're only
oneperson. I should have hundreds of people around.''I
met a man and a wife in Nigeria - Ibos. They justhad a
new baby. They had a thousand relatives there in
southernNigeria, and they were going to take that baby
around and visit all theother relatives. We should all
have families like that. Now, you take Dan and Marilyn
Quayle, who imaginethemselves as a brave, clean-cut
little couple. They are surroundedby an enormous
extended family, what we should all have - I
meanjudges, senators, newspaper editors, lawyers,
bankers. They are notalone. And one reason they are so
comfortable is that they are members ofextended
families, and I would really, over the long run, hope
Americawould find some way to provide all of our
citizens with extendedfamilies - a large group of
people they could call on for help. Now, I’ve
made us an extended family. Does ourfamily have a
flag? Well, you bet. It’s a big orange
rectangle. Orangeis a very good color and maybe the
best one. It’s full of vitamin C andcheerful
associations, if one could forget the troubles
inIreland. Now this gathering is a work of art. The
teacherwhose name I mentioned when we all remembered
good teachers asked me onetime, ''What is it artists
do?'' And I mumbled something. ''They do twothings,''
he said. ''First, they admit they can't straighten out
thewhole universe. And then second, they make at least
one little part ofit exactly as it should be. A blob
of clay, a square of canvas, apiece of paper, or
whatever.'' We have all worked so hard and well tomake
these moments and this place exactly what it should
be.As I have told you, I had a bad uncle named Dan,
whosaid a male can’t be a man unless
he’d gone to war. But I had a gooduncle named
Alex, who said, when life was most agreeable - and
itcould be just a pitcher of lemonade in the shade -
he would say, ''If thisisn't nice, what is?'' So I say
that about what we have achieved hereright now. If he
hadn’t said that so regularly, maybe five or
sixtimes a month, we might not have paused to notice
how rewarding lifecan be sometimes. Perhaps my good
uncle Alex will live on in some ofyou members of the
Syracuse Class of 1994 if, in the future, you
willpause to say out loud every so often, ''If this
isn’t nice, whatis?''Now, my time is up and I
haven’t even inspired youwith heroic tales of
the past - Teddy Roosevelt’s cavalry charge up
SanJuan Hill, Desert Storm - nor given you visions of
a glorious future -computer programs, interactive TV,
the information superhighway, speedthe day. I spent
too much time celebrating this very moment and place-
once the future we dreamed of so long ago. This is it.
We’re here. How the heck did we do it?A
neighbor of mine, I hired him - he was a handyman- to
build and ''L'' on my house where I could write. He
did thewhole damn thing - he built the foundation, and
then the side walls andthe roof. He did it all by
himself. And when it was all done, he stoodback and he
aid, "How the hell did I ever do that?" How the hell
didwe ever do this? We did it! And if this
isn’t nice, what is?I got a letter from a
sappy woman a while back - sheknew I was sappy too,
which is to say a lifelong Democrat. She waspregnant,
and she wanted to know if I thought it was a mistake
to bring a little baby into a world as troubled as this
one is. And Ireplied, what made being alive almost
worthwhile for me was the saints I met. They could be
almost anywhere. By saints I meant people whobehaved
decently and honorably in societies which were so
often obscene.Perhaps many of us here, regardless of
our ages or power or wealth, canbe saints for her
child to meet. There was one thing I forgot to say, and
I promisedI would say, and that is, ''We love you. We
really do.''</div>

    </a>
										<div>I know things now...

I know the only things I missed were my friends, my cats, my house and the music... in that order.
I know I changed and challenged the minds of people around the world about Americans. For the better.
I think certian things in Australia make a logical sense.. there is an abreviation to life and words there that makes perfect sense to me.

I think that their currency is BEAUTIFUL! (The most expensively printed currencey in the world) and felt a certian sense of pride having it in my pocket. We should be so lucky.

I think there are social and class issues that left me feeling gutted.. and I know I would never live there for an extended period of time unless I found my ONE true love.

I miss the bacon, the opera house, the transit system and the beaches, easy towns to get Stuck in in the best way...and to learn... randomly found my circus hero and was trained by her on lyra, and as much as it HURT I loved every single second.
Sydney gave me the most beautiful electrical storm I ever did see the night before I left her... and that was the most blissful send off I could have ever imagined anywhere.

Though I feel closer in the long term to New Zealand.
People are people.. ONE class . In a very pure, true and honest way.
NO polution and georgous surroundings. Along with sister cities to England and US.. spacificly..San Francisco.
I know I will go back there, sooner than I think.. sooner than I know.

I can't even figure out the words to describe to you how I feel about this place.. just that here doesn't feel quite right anymore.. and those that thought I wouldn't return were right... I wasn't ready by any stretch and am still there in my heart. If not for 2 of my best friends getting married to eachother, LIB and other projects I want to be involved in.. I WOULD BE GONE.

I know. I learned. I am appreciative. I recognize. I understand. ... that there is a downward spiral that is all too easy to fall into without a positive creative outlet..
And that my friends is what WE have above any... any where, any one, any place, country, town...... IN THE WORLD!
Yes we are inspired and enlightened.. BUT where do we bring it back?? Here.. right here. Do you realize how special we are? I do. I know. I think. I travel ... therefore I know myself better.

I am home. I am apart of a circus.

<div>Yes it's true.. I actually returned!! Unfortunetly, though there are many species of tree in NZ and Oz there are no money trees, imagine that.

My trip was so inspiring, rejunevating, thought provoking, GEORGOUS, trying, eye-opening....

So... now that my life is forever changed I have much to think about and figure out... I'll elaborate when the jetlag subsides and I can articulate properly.

										<div>Thank you.
To everyone of you, and all for different reasons...
I am embarking on a solo journey out of country for the first time... and as it got closer to my departure date I had found myself starting to feel a bit scared or afraid.. I really couldn't put my finger on the why...but it was there. I mean don't get me wrong, I am all too excited and thrilled and happy, I feel lucky, and I have needed this for a long time and .. MANAFEST!!! CLANK, SLURP, CHEERS!!!....lol!!
But, the reminders I received this week and especially last night at SI have made me fully aware of how well prepared I AM for this experience.
Sure there is fear in the unknown...but now there is no fear, just the unknown.
And for that I thank you!!

when I got home from work the other night and the only piece of mail in the box was from my great friend in Holland!! No crappy coupons or junk mail, no bills.... just one lonely envelope.

I am a huge fan of TANGABLE MAIL... so few and far between these days... most people don't even know your address.

I give great mail!! It's true... just ask anyone whos gotten it.

Sending care packages to New York, Montreal (it's on the way soon Andrea!!), New Zealand, France, Alaska.... where ever.. I've been doing it for years and I love it... I can be as random as I am, times 100!! And I know it brings much happiness!!

I LOVE to get it too.... There is something to be said about handling something they've touched..... and thought enough of me or you to send it, no matter how insignificant.... a postcard, a cd of pictures, music or a short note...sweets or stickers, boxes of light in foggy dismal winters ..... or more elaborate packages that become full pieces of art with paint or collage on the box, filled with so many different things you've collected for while you forget whats in it.........or the time we traded one sock just to feel closer and you asked me to go for a walk.

So if you haven't, I highly recomend it..... if it's been a while, heres your reminder.

Noone is ever too far away.

<div>There is a vitality, a life force, a quickening that is translated through you into action, and because there is only one of you in all time, this expression is unique. If you block it, it will never exist through any other medium and be lost.

The world will not have it.
It is not your buisness to determine how valuable it is; nor how it compares to other expressions. It is your buisness to keep it yours, clearly and directly, to keep the channel open.

You do not even have to believe in yourself or your work. You have to keep open and aware directly to the urges that motivate you. Keep the channel open. No artist is pleased. There is no satisfaction whatever at any time. There is only a queer, divine dissatiafaction; A blessed unrest that keeps us marching and makes us more alive then the others.

DJ Dusk

<div>For anyone who loves hip hop.. it is a truely sad week. I copied this from the Root Down web site. No real answers how it happened. Another reminder to all how precious life is, and how connected we all are, as ONE community, thru music and art.

Tarek Habib Captan AKA DJ DUSK (1974-2006) Master of ceremonies,Chief Selectah and Dee Jay. Habib &amp; Janet Captan blessed this world with his birth on Dec.1st, 1974 in Liberia,Africa. They soon after moved to La Habra, CA, where he grew up and by age 11, he was Djing courtesy of his parents gift of 2 turntables,dj mixer &amp; his natural love for hip-hop. He practiced and developed all elements of hip hop including the 5th element, knowledge which he would use to fuel his passion &amp; pursuit for social justice. By 1990 Dusk was writing PHRISK &amp; soon after met &amp; was brought into the V.O.B. (Visions of Brotherhood) crew which stood for raising consciousness through hip hop .
"White,Black,Yellow or Brown if we work as one we can all get down" were the words that Dusk &amp; V.O.B lived by. He attended UC Santa Cruz for a few years further developing his skills in the area of Djing &amp; activism.
He continued his studies at UCLA, where he got his Bachelors in Sociology, organized the 1st national hip-hop conference &amp; would later teach an extension course he created called "Dj As The Post Modern Musician. Most significantly during this time, he would become involved in a mentoring program at the Mar Vista Center where he volunteered &amp; eventually worked, changing many lives till his last days. Around 1994, he would meet CBS/Fly I.D. crew member DJ Rob One (R.I.P.) who musically mentored &amp; influenced him greatly .

Later, he met MC T-Love (with whom he co hosted the radio show "StrangeFruit") &amp; Miles, becoming the Dj for their Trio. Though short lived, that connection brought him to the Rootdown family where he established himself as Master of Ceremonies &amp; Chief selectah. He conceived L.A.s 1st ever Rootdown Soundclash and emceed the legendary Brainfreeze L.A. party. He would expand beyond Rootdown quickly to Dj for Bounce Rock Skate, Nappy at the Roots, Descarga, Sound Lessons,Thanksgivends benefit, Rootdown N.Y.C. &amp; various other residencies that were always on fire with his seamless, organic mix of hip-hop,soul-jazz-funk,jamaican,disco &amp; latin sounds. He had just begun to become a major promoter with his Prima Lux roving parties. Dusk was in the motion of putting his verses on wax &amp; did so for the Breakestra's "Family Rap",though unreleased as of yet.He is felt, heard, loved, respected &amp; will always be missed, dusk till dawn..........

The Root Down Sound System continues in his spirit for we know it would be important to him that his family keeps spreading the word of positive music and community love. His legacy will live on as we continue to carry his words "We're not done, We're not done".
