My Testimonials

October 18, 2008

Karen,

I am so enjoying our friendship.

I liked you as soon as I met you, and I wanted to get to know you better. I felt a special connection to you and I’m so happy that we are friends.

You are sensitive to others needs and you make people feel welcomed. You are kind and considerate and a great hostess. I remember you trying to serve me when you had just had Connor and a Cesarean and it was painful for you to get up out of your chair.

Connor is a joy and a lot of that is due to you as his wonderful, loving mother.

I love you my wonderful, caring loyal friend and I’m so glad that you are in my life :)

Ann

I feel so richly blessed to call Karen my friend.

She humbles me with her deep compassion, patience, graciousness and honesty. She is fierce in the protection of her boundaries, but maintains the capacity for self examination and growth... such a rare talent! I respect so much the thoughtfulness with which she lives her life, and the accountability she demands of me (as a true friend should).

The love I see in her inspires me to greater love... and I can think of no gift greater than that.

Duracell

Duracell Bunny is any of several anthropomorphic pink rabbits powered by batteries, used to promote Duracell brand batteries. In commercial advertisements, the Duracell Bunny is actually only one of these rabbits, powered by a Duracell battery rather than rival batteries. The point of the advertisement is that the bunny powered by a Duracell battery can continue functioning for a longer amount of time before its battery runs down.

The advertisements usually feature the bunnies competing in some way, for example a game of soccer or a race.

The Duracell bunny predates the Energizer Bunny, which actually began as a parody of the Duracell bunny toys that became a collectible item. People often get the two confused, although there are distinct differences between the two. There are differences in appearance — the Energizer bunny wears sunglasses, has larger ears, is a different shade of pink and has a different body shape. Also, while the Energizer bunny is a single rabbit, the Duracell bunnies are a species. The Energizer bunny is always depicted with a drum, as the Duracell bunny toys of which it is a parody had drums, but the actual Duracell bunny advertising campaign has moved beyond this, and Duracell bunnies are usually depicted as doing something other than beating a drum.

The Duracell Bunny does not appear in North America, due to the now iconic status of the Energizer Bunny.

The Duracell bunny was originally trademarked for use in the US and other countries. Duracell failed to renew its US trademark of the bunny and as a result lost it. Energizer seeing an opportunity trademarked a new bunny for its use.

Burning Man changed my life in ways I could never imagine and I am now married to a man I love so deeply and am carrying his child. This is a new phase in my life and one I could never have pictured myself in just over a year ago. Isn't destiny fabulous?

The Temple Burns

Today at work I had to deal with 60+ resumes for a contract position at work. It made me so sad to see all these highly qualified people with MBA’s from the top six business schools in the country, all desperate for work. It shows me just how bad things are out there right now.

I just wanted to say that I’m especially grateful to have a job that pays well and has great benefits. I’m grateful I am no longer job hunting and am able to provide for my family. I am grateful for being able to sleep again at night now knowing I have food in my fridge and can pay my bills. The last four months have been exceptionally hard and I am glad to leave that behind.

My heart goes out to all those still looking and I hope the upturn in the economy people are predicting is happening.

boobiefed.com/support-the...on-act-2009/

Representative Carolyn B. Maloney (NY) and Senator Jeff Merkley (OR) introduced the Breastfeeding Promotion Act in both houses of Congress on 11 June. This is the first time the bill has been introduced in the Senate.
Forty-seven states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands have already implemented laws protecting breastfeeding mothers, but they are neither standardized and nor inclusive. Please ask your Representative and Senators to co-sponsor the Breastfeeding Promotion Act to support a national policy to keep familes healthy.

The Breastfeeding Promotion Act of 2009 (H.R. 2819, S, 1244) includes five provisions:

1) Amends the Civil Rights Act of 1964 which protect breastfeeding women from being fired or discriminated against at work.

2) Provides tax incentives for companies that create private lactation areas in the workplace or provide breastfeeding equiptment or cunsultation services for their employees.

3) Stipulates a performance standard ensuring breastpumps are safe and effective.

4) Ensures breastfeeding equiptment and consultations are tax deductible by amending the Internal Revenue Code of the definition of medical care.

5) Protects the privacy of breastfeeding mothers ensuring they have both breaks and a private place to pump. (This applies to employers with 50 or more employees).

Breastfeeding is good for mothers, babies, and familes as a whole translating through our society. Failure to breastfeed increases the baby’s risk of infections, diarrhea, SIDS, obesity, diabetes, asthma, and childhood leukemia, and increases the mother’s risk of breast and ovarian cancers and diabetes. Breastfeeding also has significant economic and environmental benefits for families, employers, and society. Take a look at the wealth of compelling reasons to breastfeed right here at Boobiefed.

All major medical authorities recommend that babies are breastfed exclusively for their first six months and continue to breastfeed for at least the first one to two years of life. Many mothers start off breastfeeding with good intentions but lack the support they need to make it a success. Only 12% of U.S. mothers continue to exclusively breastfeeding at six months and only 21% are still breastfeeding at one year.

Currently, 77% of women breastfeed their infants at birth but breastfeeding rates drop rapidly once they return home from the hospital. More than 50% of women with infants less than one year old have returned to work. Working mothers are more likely to stop breastfeeding early if they do not receive the support they need in the workplace.
Together we can change this! Tell Congress to support the Breastfeeding Promotion Act to provide the support mothers need.

Take action at: org2.democracyinaction.org/o/51...n.jsp

The last time this act was introduced it failed to pass so let’s do everything we can to push it through this time around.

James and I just spent the weekend soaking up the relaxing refreshing energy in Big Sur. We stayed at the most beautiful little cabin nestled amongst the redwoods and really unplugged and destressed. The cabins are beautiful with a creek running down below and an outdoor shower, toiler and clawfoot tub surrounded by trees. This little piece of paradise is easily affordable at $125 a night and we highly recommend it. Check it out at www.rosehavencabins.com/welcome.html

Please tell them Karen and James sent you!
