Now that spring is upon us and the sun is shining into the evening, we are moving our poi class outside. So rather then Mondays at the Vets Hall, class will now be Tuesdays at the San Lorenzo Park (along the river between Water, Ocean, Soquel, and Front). If this is a bad time for you, private and small group classes are also available by request. We are also slightly flexible on the time for this class, so please send comments by email ASAP.

about me
I'm writing this here so that I can remember it more so then for you to see it.
I have issues with the question "who are you." I don't think it can be answered in words but I see some of the value in making an attempt. I think what I'll do is continue to add to this box as I fabricate ideas then when I get fed up with the whole thing I'll delete it.
Among other things I am a firedancer based for the time being in Santa Cruz, California.
Aside from those which seems to be inescapable, I do not have clear labels which can be used to fit me neatly into one or another social category. Instead I travel on this path as we flow with the rhythms and not allow preconceptions cloud our perception of the world in which we live. Sorry, that was whimsical but I still meant it.
I strive to live in a state of constant inconsistency. The world is infinite. The time I have to explore it all is nearly insignificant. I will always greet each dawn with a smile and do my best to radiate back the sunlight I receive.
I believe that there is a great path which we all will inevitably follow. One of the most important lessons of which being that truth is not determined by our individual perceptions and that we all collectively share one future. This ultimate path itself is not determined by us but how we each reach that it varies with what we decide to in this life. This life may or may not be the only one we have but we go through it regardless and have an obligation to make it worthwhile. We have a responsibly to make the world a better place by the time we leave it then it was when we first entered because the world is not inherited from our ancestors, it is borrowed from our children. Some of our paths will contain more obstacles then others, some will be straight and some will have bends, and every path will have challenges. Every path will have to cross their deserts and endures their storms and in each of their own ways they will all have their own personal sunrises.
If you are on my list of friends and other good people that means I have met you physically, you did something to impress me in one way or another, and I want to maintain contact with you.
Eat the Sun! Love the Sun!
I have a belief which I'm still developing, that a primary reason for our time in this world is so that we can learn to recognize each other's souls so that on the next plain of existence when we no longer have our bodies we will still be able to find our friends.
Guard what you think not what you see. Eyes are windows to the soul in both directions. The more you are able to experience and survive in tact, the healthier your soul will be even if sometimes what you see is painful. I strongly believe in the phoenix's lesson that in order to live we must periodically let at least a part of ourselves die. This is proven constantly by many of the cycles and systems of the world around us, my favorite of which being the example of the effect wildfires and rainstorm have on forests. If you are in control (if such of thing is possible) of your own thoughts then you need not fear what you do in your interactions.
who we are is not what we do, it is not how well we speak, it is not our activities, our accomplishments, how successful we are, it is not who we know, it is not what we have or where we live, it is not the places we have been, it is not what we look like, it is not what we know, it is not the skill and abilities we have, it is not quantifiable, it is not easily definable, it is not tangible, and it is not determined by anything but ourselves. if any of these things vanished you would still be who you are. who we are is more constant and engined then all that surface stuff. It is the experiences we have had, it is our memories, it is our friendliness, emotions, compassion, determination, intellect, it is how we decide to live within the short time we have on this world.
I prefer to be barefoot.
I want to learn everything.
I am Jewish
Dyami is an Ohlone (native american) name which means eagle. I think the story is that a couple weeks after I was born while my mama and grammy where in a forest clearing of Yosemite they saw an eagle flying over head and took that as inspiration to decide on Dyami which was one of the names my parents had been considering giving to me. Tivon is a variation of the Hebrew word Teva which means nature. Kaplan is a common Kohen family name.
I would rather live in a world without artificial international and cultural boarders and will work towards obtaining that goal
Love love love
"Mastery is being able to think into your poi. So the way I imagine that Beethoven could play the piano or the ultimate jazz master could play jazz, which is that there is nothing between your imagination and what manifest in the world. So that what you hear in you soul, what's in your imagination just comes into the world. Through your fingers, or through your body, or through your voice, or whatever it is. You've removed all the limitations, you've removed the motor skill limitations, you've removed the things that get in the way, and so when what you imagine just manifests, through you, I think that's mastery." - Nick Woolsey
"In the moments before lighting up, I let myself relax, telling myself, "if as far as I go is dancing my heart out, on fire to my favorite music, and they send me home, it will still have been worth it...everything is exactly as it should be... of course!"
I thought of those first times lighting up on the beach in Seabright and the many places and people I've encountered upon the path that this pipe-dream has led me down. I felt gratitude for all of it....so that when I lit up I felt centered and excited to dance." - SriKanta

What a big lug. This guy is so fun to have around. Invite him anywhere, you won't regret it. Sacred all-night ceremony? No problem. Your rectum just exploded & have to go to the hospital? He will drive you. This guy is a walking teddy bear waiting to give you a hug.
