Deb is one of the few people that commands my total respect on this network - not by dint of any particular history, not because I agree with 100% of what she relates, nor because she's been far more respectable than the majority of us, in general, nor has she ever kissed my ass - but she simply commands my total respect.
I don't ignore those kinds of commands unless they're tendered with words. Deb tenders the command with something else. I guess I'll call it "an oblique communication of total respect".
I've never seen her disrespect anyone, or assume something, or mistake direct language for disrespect. She seems to have that rare ability to understand what is being shared, and she seems to value it. That's rare. We're all better for having had access to this example.

about me
graduate of the school of hard knocks; real relationships; creative endeavours
On Friday I was headed to the Great Lakes regional burn Lakes of Fire in Michigan.
I was prevented from entering the US by Homeland Security. An arrest warrant was request by a DA on June 9, 2011 in a Sparks courtroom. I had no notice of this event and was obviously shocked to discover this enroute to Lakes of Fire.
I was arrested (rather dramatically) by ten Border Guards forming a circle around my car with guns drawn. I followed the instructions meticulously but still was in a state ...

Went for a walk on the beach – the skies were moody, the lake was rough and a few snowflakes floated around me. I read some of Caleb’s writings, some of his notes to me and thought long and hard about his gift to me.
Caleb’s gift has inspired my art project. I’m not sure how I will represent this yet but I have so far given it everything that is in my soul to give. On the day that I met Caleb at the Black Rock Beacon camp at Burning Man in August, 2008, we were introduced by a friend who t...

Gaman is the word which may best describe the Japanese spirit - we would know this as forbearance. It is this spirit which will provide the deep courage that is needed for a people to move through these tragedies - one day at a time.
As a former journalist, I've found the television coverage of this disaster has been appalling. Fortunately there are videos and photos so we can judge for ourselves without having to listen to the talking heads interrupt each other.
The younger of my two s...

Where’s the beef???
Violence against women is a personal experience for me. And I have the answer to why women don’t leave violent relationships. Are you interested?
Having lived in the virtual world for several months, I finally woke up last month to face my real one. This is that tale!
Let me tell you why women don’t leave. Right now, I’m forced to beg for $209 a month from welfare. I haven’t eaten a proper meal in three weeks – reservation cigarettes are cheaper than food so I cha...
