My PSA

I am collecting signatures for a very worthy grassroots cause. Californians for Humane Farms is trying to get a proposition on next year's ballot that would require farms in the state to have cages big enough for the animals to stand, sit and turn around. That is all this measure calls for. It has already passed in Arizona and Florida and is law in Oregon too. Let me know if you would like to sign my petition to give voters a chance to change this cruel farm practice. We need 650,000 signatures by Feb. 22, so please consider volunteering to gather signatures. The Web site is: humanecalifornia.org/. And if you know of events/venues that would be good for collecting signatures send them my way.
Thanks,
Elinor

As they do every spring, cats have been mating like crazy in SF and it's kitty season at Animal Care & Control and its privately run sister organization, the SPCA. There are lots to choose from. For those of us feeling less energetic there are plenty of teen, middle-aged and older cats as well. (Not to mention some amazing dogs. Who knew Boxers were so fun?!)

The ACC is publicly run and must take in any abandoned or injured animal. They need volunteers (dog walking -- which I do every week, cat socializing, small animal care) and donations, as well as adoptions. They also need any old towels, blankets, linens and pet toys you can spare.

Animal Care & Control:
1200 15th Street (at Harrison) San Francisco CA 94103 415-554-6364

SPCA:
2500 16th St, San Francisco, 94103 - (415) 554-3000 (just around the corner)

Thanks for indulging my public service announcement.

Why Elinor is Great

Unsu...

Elinor is a wonderful example of naughty librarian. She’s a steady friend; great mom to her kitty kats and lost friends, extremely loyal and generous. She’s also great with the written word and finding just the right nuance in communication. Her art is her dance (though she’s a great decorator too). Recently Paula and I were trying to put our finger on one summation of Elinor and she posed the following “Elinor has a pure joy – a joie de vivre”. To know her is to love her. I’m so blessed to know her.

Elinor, the magic librarian! One tough cookie, but a very sweet one too. I had the luxury of being driven around the bay area by her on new years day. A lovely lady, and smart as a whip too.

There are few friends like Elinor. She is supportive, generous, kind, compassionate and understanding like none other. I can't imagine how she can be so much to so many people because she is so much just to me alone. I don't know how she manages to give all of us this much attention and caring. I love Elinor dearly. We've known each other for such a long time that at this point she's stuck with me as a permanent entry in her phone book.

You wouldn't need a million friends if you had just one like this gal.
