Just yesterday, a young man expressed his concern over 'darkpsy'. Upon describing the experience, I had no idea what he meant at first. His description sounded more like a Christian talking about the Satanic invasion of his workplace, but I really didn't understand he was talking about a style of trance. He, a young man by the name of Brian, could have re framed his story in either the LOTR or StarWars epics and it would have still sounded the same, Ring Wraith bearing DJ's unleash the Thump of Mordor on WNC's happy-go-lucky dance community. He asked me if I knew anything about it.

At first, since I didn't know this was a psy-trance thing, I said no. Then later, I figured out it was a dance thing and Brian's belief was that it happened to come out a couple years ago during the summer. After realizing this wasn't a super flu or some dark cult, I asked him what it was exactly.

Then he told me - "This is a form of dark trance music that makes the community turn on itself!"

Of fucking Christoban, this was a dance thing. I was waiting to hear about their sacrifice to the Dark Lord Sauron Vader Beats. Pity.

I expressed that I hadn't been to an event since a couple years ago, and yes, I knew about the form of music. Back then, it's adherents were dressing like trance-goths, sporting plush Cthulhu dolls and had some modicum of PLUR still. I informed young Brian that I was the least knowledgeable of all people, and if he would wish to increase his standing with anyone in the trance community, I was the last person he should associate with publicly.

So that said, wtf is up? This isn't my realm of understanding, but probably yours. Is it as bad as Brian says it is or is his simply misguided in thinking it's the worse thing ever to happen to the dance community? I have no idea. Just thought I would pass this encounter on.
