Hey there! I've been meaning to talk to you all about something...So I’ve been thinking...there's this department at my school called interdisciplinary. You have to put in an application to be in it but once you’re in you can do WHATEVER you want including performance art. What if I did improvisational hoop dance with full on theatrical costuming, lighting, make-up ect. This could be a great opportunity to grow in my performance confidence and skills. The thing is that i'll have to make it MORE artsy and LESS of just a dance to music. I have this idea of a room with drums set up in a circle. I would be in a pose inside the center of my hoop on the ground as if I was a statue and whenever somebody came up and hit a drum I would start doing dramatic gestures and movements with my hoop and when they stopped I’d go back to being a statue. I think this could be really interesting but it has to have a purpose so I was thinking of trying to write down my theory and others ideas on what hoop dance is all about. How it is a true cultural, spiritual practice that relates to our every day world in so many ways. SOOO I’ve been "interviewing" hopers and hoop lovers to see what they think. What suggestions or ideas they have and I’ve asked each one to tell me a little about their own relations of hooping/circles that represent our everyday lives and what it does for them. I would love to here the good(mostly) and the not so positive concepts about circles and hoops (ex:running in circles, In a way it is a ridged form) Anything would be helpful so if you've got anything to say about it please let me know! even suggestions and tips and theories about performance art in general would be helpful. I think this could really become a huge part of my studies here at school and I need to make it happen! Much love and Light, B

Art and Music both are held close to my heart. I love to listen to, and make music, just as I love both observing art and creating it. It is my life. I especially love Hoop Dancing. The hoop is more then just a Childs Toy. It has always been an important symbol in history and still is today. In Native American culture Hoop dance was developed to teach the symbol of the sacred hoop regarding the sacred circle of life. Through the hoop dance, healing and mending of the broken parts of a person's life can take place. Hoop dancing helps one express themselves in a way that they might otherwise be unable to do. In this amazing ceremony each person dances with numerous hoops and he/she puts his/her whole self into the dance. As he dances the hoops are moved in and out forming different geometric shapes. It is a way of healing. The circle also symbolizes infinity, the circle of life and the eternal unknown. It can represent the psychic center of personality and is symbolic of wholeness, completeness and unity of the self. Although the hoop dance I do and the one most commonly seen today does not originate from Native American hoop dance, I still see it as a spiritual practice and a ceremony in itself. Your response to the hoop and what you do with it IS the psychic center of your personality, a direct reflection and a means of self-centering

I want to send out a big fat thanks to all you freaky people who helped make my first interfuse as amazing as it was! I knew I was in for a good time but could never have prepared myself for such an amazing experience as the one I had here. This swirlin twirlin hoopin maniac was able to spin herself into a whole new relm of conciousness and I couldn't be happier! Thank you so much to all who contributed to that. I met so many amazing spirits and I look forward to staying in touch and getting to know each one of you even better. Hello all! As an attempt to spread my love and passion for hoop dance I have started teaching hoop classes at Bella Performing Arts Studio. Classes are on thursdays from 7pm to 8pm and cost no more than $15 dollars for walk in and $10 if you pay in bulk(the smallest amount of classes are 5 classes for $50) So come express yourself and take a step inside the hoop. You'll be amazed at what you will find and I can gaurentee that it will be nothing short of amazing. Alright now, LETS DANCE!
