My Blog

Yes, I have been in the nether lands obscura. But in my absence I scored some terrific swag. A Remo Klong Yao drum. Sweet. The doum on this baby is like a homeboys bass speaker, and yet it has sweet ringing highs. It was overly extravagant gift for my birthday from my family and friends. Either they love me, or just got tired of hearing me whine about how much I would like to have one. Thanks all.

The Bay area Goth ladies were inspiring! The crowd was around 100… for a Tuesday night in Amarillo that's a pretty good turn out. Everyone was appreciative of all the dancers (well done ladies!") but grew silent for the star performers… not an unappreciated silence, but simply in awe of their creative talent. Their creative use of music and costuming pushes middle eastern dance to a new edge. If anyone ever has the opportunity to see Tempest or Ariellah perform or teach, do not pass it up. A... read more

Take the example of these two simple patterns from the Ayub family. Saudi is from the Gulf regions (Saudi Arabia) and is also known as Kaliijii. Notice Sau... read more

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Several factors determine the sound a drum produces, including the type of shell the drum has, the type of drumheads it has, and the tension of the drumheads. Different drum sounds have different uses in music. For example, a jazz drummer may want drums that sound crisp, clean, and a little on the soft side, whereas a rock and roll drummer may prefer drums that sound loud and deep. Because these drummers want different sounds, their drums will be cons... read more
