Attaching a synthetic head to a ceramic drum (blog entry) Here is the same drum after 6 months of pounding. Still sounds good. I have a new idea for attaching drumheads and when I do it I'll blog it here.

First heat up the bearing surface with a heat gun for a while until it has really soaked up the heat. Apply the adhesive. I used a special glue gun with construction grade adhesive that takes about 5 min to get tacky at room temperature but since the ceramic was still very hot it sets much slower. Place the drum head on the drum and put it in the rig. Tighten it down nearly to pitch then carefully heat the skin around the rim with the heat gun to help the drum head mold to the shape of the... read more
