And their feet move rhythmically, as tender feet of Cretan girls danced once around an altar of love, crushing a circle in the soft smooth flowering grass Sappho The Greek is soooooo much more beautiful than the translation, but oh! do you ever feel that you are dancing in a different time altogether? No, I don't mean I shouldn't be in this time, only that--for an instance--I am absorbed, or sucked, or somehow intensely transported to some other ... read more
I'm not old, by most standards...only 39, but I think I get some of it now. Don't look back, you can never look back...well, I guess you can, but then you just gotta' let it go, right? Maybe not all of it--just the stuff that doesn't do much good. Somewhere between cynicism and absolute idealistic mumbo-jumbo is beauty. Consider Neil Young's song:

Karate night on Wednesday...kids are gone. House is quiet. One cat is perched on the window sill looking out. It is dusk, nearly bedtime (for me). Furball (the other cat) is curled up on an unmade bed; Winnie (our Sheltie) asleep at my feet. Some people (not myself) are pure genius--the way they elucidate, restructure, and recreate a million thoughts of today and yesterday. These people--you may know one--do this with words, pictures, artifacts, the body... Any intelli... read more
Or should I say, "Abandon all hope, ye who enter here?" When did you begin to think? I mean really think? Was it 8, 10, or 16 years old? Did you ask yourself questions? When did things resound in your being? When did you think truly deeply and were deeply true about and to yourself? Did you fall into despair and then awake in joy? What was it that made you feel amazed at the world and sometimes disappointed?

I'm a mommy and grandmother (imagine that!). I teach wellness (yoga and aerobics) and school (third grade)--Dancing is the yoga that I've been searching for--I've learned so much in such a short time and I feel blissful and awed by the new friends I've made.
