June 27th Main Hall, Preston School, Monks Dale, Yeovil with Anne White, 11am to 4pm. 11am to 1pm Introduction to Courtly Classical, this contained dance style is elegant and refined and the use of arms and spine is quite gentle. It can also be seen as a link between the classical and baladi forms of raqs sharqi. This is the awalim dance performed in the courts. 1pm to 2pm lunch break and seminar, 2pm to 4pm Classical Egyptian, lyrical, queenly and expansive with quick nimble feet and locomotive use of space. We will explore the line of the dance and veils will be supplied to augment the learning process. We will develop your relationship with the veil as well as working through a variety of ways to use it. This dance incorporates Western ideas in use of space, line and locomotive movements.
To book please email shamira@spiritdancer.co.uk cost for day £35 or £30 concessions, £18/£15 for one workshop. Anne White is an amazing dancer, Hilal trained and one of the first Raqs Sharqi Soceity teachers. She also runs the world famous Planet Egypt showcase in London.
