I have a very good friend of mine coming to visit me next week. She's never been to SF let alone California before (coming from back East). I know all the major touristy stuff... but I want to show her some SF highlights which you won't find in the books...

That I pay twice the amount of state and federal taxes then someone who is married.
I was checking the tax break-down grid... and someone doing the exact same job as myself for the exact same hours and pay is taxed 50% less just because they are married.

Ok, fine I get it... the country wants its people to marry and procreate...
but half the tax!!!

WTF?

Other than attempting to support procreation through marriage, why does there exist this large of a difference with regards to taxes?
