Ticket for sale...
I have a Shambhala ticket for sale if anyone is interested. Msg. me or post. I can't remember how much I paid so I will have to look into that. It will be cheaper than what they are going for now.Back up your shit...!!
So kids just a friendly public service announcement...I lost my entire hard drive and I didn't have anything backed up, so if there is stuff on your computer that you care about, or that is irreplaceable, or just sentimental...make sure you have a back-up copy out there somewhere.
I just went out and got me a fancy new external drive. 500 GB of back-up love.
Definitely a lesson in non-attachment. Not very good timing of this lesson though since I was in the middle of doing all my assignments for school.
Finding Pleasure and Joy in the Simple Things...
The smell of sheets after hanging outside to dry and the feeling of those clean, crisp sheets when I get into bed at night. The color and smell of an amazing flower which greets me everyday and brightens up my home.
How about you? What are your simple pleasures?
Jill Bolte Taylor: My stroke of insight
Jill Bolte Taylor a neuroanatomist by profession, researched her own brain as she was having a stroke, and found how we can, in any moment, choose between the logical, linear, relative, past~based, ego perspective and the ineffable, absolute, expansive, perspective of interconnectedness. Check out this touching and powerful talk. It is a bit of a long one so make some time for it. You will be glad you did. www.ted.com/index.php/talks/view/id/229Pubic hair or no...?
I was listening to Juicebox radio tonight on Citr 101.9 FM (www.juiceboxradio.com/ for podcasts) This episode was about pubic hair removal. They had some interesting guests especially a nurse who is doing research on this subject. If you are a woman between 15-50 and are interested in completing this survey please check out www.whri.org/smoothtalking.htm Below are some more details on the research. Definite food for thought.Lenore Riddell (Nurse Practitioner, BC Women’s Hospital & Member, WHRI) and Hannah Varto (Clinical Practice Leader & Family Practice Nurse Practitioner for Child & Youth Programs for VCH) are conducting research that is aimed towards enhancing our understanding of this relatively new phenomenon of widespread pubic hair removal from the women’s perspectives. They are conducting a widespread survey of women ages 15 to 50 in Vancouver and the Lower Mainland. The ultimate goal of this research will be to develop best practice guidelines for health care professionals about healthy hair removal (or not) for women.
Furthermore, the investigators hope to develop an understanding of why women remove their pubic hair, learn at what age women typically start removing their pubic hair, to describe the practices of hair removal, to outline complications of pubic hair removal and to explore self-reported perceived benefits of pubic hair removal for women. This research is important in order to gain a better understanding of the practice of pubic hair removal and to eventually develop clinical recommendations for appropriate methods that decrease the potential spread of infections or development of dermatitis.
School Daze
Realistically, even with a lot of coffee, I can only sustain three to four hours of school work at a one time without then having to take a break for at least one hour and more likely two. Writing 500 words takes me about an hour. Ultimately, I like to proofread things a lot. After I take some space from my writing I like to rework and revision them; this is a time consuming process. Also, I know that I really need to work on mechanics. For example, I have such a limited understanding of punctuation. I want to be a good writer and I want my work to flow. If I want to archive these goals this process takes time which must be considered when planning for a project. It is all about effective time management something that I need A LOT of work on.Unfortunately, my tendency is to rebel against things that I do not want to do or that are difficult. Distraction and/or avoidance is how I cope with this. When I used to see a life coach we briefly talked about rebellion and why I do it. If I recall we didn't come to any conclusion. I really need clarity on this.
The paradox is that despite my rebellious nature I actually really care about my work. I take a lot of pride in my papers and projects. I don't like to...no, I CAN'T, hand in crap. I put a lot of thought into my work and I don't know how to do this quickly. It takes me a long time to formulate what I would like to say. I try to be precise which takes awhile (there is something to be said for being concise). Even though I know all these things about myself I never give myself enough time to successfully go through this process or if I do my assignments are days late as a result. What's more, when I leave things till the last minute I put myself through an enormous amount of physical, emotional, mental, and probably spiritual stress. I get very little sleep, I eat like crap, I don't get enough exercise, and I hold a lot of tension in my body. The catch is want to achieve my goals without having to sacrifice too much. (Is this even possible?) Unlike many other students I don't want to give up having a life. Making time for having fun is so necessary for me. How can I learn to thrive in my personal/ private life and as a student?
I need to figure this out, like yesterday...
