The Hippodrome is the fabulous floating salon that also serves as the free shuttle around downtown's Gallery Row during Art Walk every second Thursday. Outside, it is a gaily vintage painted school bus. Inside, it is an intimate space, with checkerboard floors and sofa style seating.

Citizens using the tools provided by the SaveLAPL website I helped launched have already made a difference in the future of the Los Angeles Public Library: the proposed $1-per-book inter-branch transfer fee has been withdrawn in favor of a nickel increase in daily late fines, and a book buying fund was created by the Library Foundation.

But the Library’s funding still faces drastic cuts when Mayor Villaraigosa’s budget goes before City Council’s Budget... read more

Dear friends,

I am part of a grassroots collective of passionate library users who are deeply disturbed by the proposed $1-per-book inter-branch loan fee that will be charged beginning July 1st.

We have launched a website at www.saveLAPL.org to raise awareness of this issue and the fact that there is a virtual moratorium on the library buying new books and periodicals.

We believe that if the people who use the Library make their feelings known to the Mayor, Library Commissio... read more

In just one day, the petition demanding that the City and Parks Department bring fire-fighting goats into Griffith Park has been signed by nearly 500 concerned citizens.

Please read it, sign if you agree, pass it on and call or email your Councilmember. We can't undo the damage of the recent fires, but this is an ecological, economical idea that could make them less likely in the future.

more info at www.1947project.com/firegoat

thanks,
Kim
