The Queen's Monkeys

Be aware (as opposed to beware) of Historical Accuracy.
It is a dangerous concept.
If you've ever read reports of an accident that happened to also be video taped, you'll be amazed at how different the tape is from what is written down. And the more witnesses there are, the more different versions there will be.

Personally, I prefer the minstrels' & story tellers' versions, since they are there to entertain.
And can change to suit the audience.
And since entertainment was so sparce, way back when, it is possible for a single minstrel to be welcomed into encampments on both sides of a battle field. All he had to do was reflect the audience's preferences. And not get executed as a spy.

If accuracy was important, would there be over 200 authentic versions (more verses, but I mean versions) of "Green Sleeves"? As Linda Underhill documented (may she smile down on all of us).

So, if you happen to be around when I'm telling a story, please don't "correct" me during the telling, it's just the way I tell it / remember it.
You can tell me "your" version at some other time, privately.
I may have already heard your version or it may be news to me.
(and yes, I've been praised for my accuracy of my Incident Reports, too! But that's a different kettle of gumbo.)

And enjoy the stories, until new research presents a new version. Or they realize that Bacon didn't write Shakespeare, it was Hans Christian Anderson's daughter! And why was Queen Victoria keeping all those monkeys and training them to write?
