Tuesday Nights Café India 3760 Sports Arena Blvd. San Diego, Ca 92110 American Tribal Style: All Levels American Tribal Style (ATS) 7:30pm-9:00pm ----- This class will be based solely on ATS and not Tribal Fusion. We will learn the fundamentals, techniques, combinations, formations and cues of American Tribal Style. This class will be run continuously so students will always be reviewing and learning new material. We will work towards actually dancing in class in groups, trios, and duets all learning how to lead and follow improvisational American Tribal Style. ----- Rates 1 1/2 Hour Class: 8 Class Card $144.00 ($12/hr) 4 Class Card $78.00 ($13/hr) Drop-In $20.00 ($14/hr)

Last Weekend

So... Long story short.... on saturday morning before I leave for TFF in San Luis Obispo... I come to find the back window of my car is broken and my amp, speakers, all my mac makeup, suitcase of costumes and all my jewelry, and various electronic items have all been stolen. :( And later find out that on Sunday they came back and unsuccessfully tried to steal my cd player. I want to thank all the vendors who lent me all the pieces to put together my ensemble for my performance. I want to thank Tribal Bazaar for giving me one of the rings i wore, Geisha Moth for the Shirt I got, and Media/Rose/Kami. I also want to thank the kind hearted people who gave me money to help replace the items that were stolen from me. This is what our community is about, and that's fucking rad!! THANK YOU ALL SOOO MUCH LOVE YOU GUYS!!

Ok, So Roberto and I are finally getting our new business going. Since Im a tribal belly dancer and what not and he is a yoga instructor, we came up with TribalYoga. We have big plans in the future but right now we are just getting started. So This Is What Happened At "So You Think You Can Dance"

So I go back to the theatre for the "Call Backs" There were 100 people on Friday, and 100 people on Saturday. So I was 1 of 200 people out of the original 700 that showed up on Thursday. So i go there at 8 am on Friday and im in the first group of 35 people. They do another "Freestyle" round in front of the judges. So that means 10 people at a time go on the stage and each person dances for about 10-20 secs to a random song they pick. I got past that round(round # 2). Then from the people that made it through that we start doing our solos to our music.This is finally the part that people see on television and the judges give there feedback and tell you if you make it to the next round or not. So this part of the audtion takes FOREVER. We got there at 8am and at 2:30pm we break for lunch and I haven't even done my solo yet. Lunch is for an hour. We get back and continue with the audtions. Finally they get to me and i go up and do my thing..........................I didn't make it. Its ok though. The judges didn't say that i couldn't dance, or i was a horrible performer or that i sucked. They didn't pick me because they thought that a guy bellydancing was weird and not the "norm" They thought it was feminine and that "America" would want to see that on the show. They said if i was on the show and i had to do a solo to safe myself from being eliminated that "America" would vote for the male bellydancer. Mary Murphy said and i quote" If we slapped a wig on you, you would look like a girl(insert her annoying scream for a laugh)" but anyway so they basically didn't know what to think about me. I take that as a compliment. And hey they never said anything bad about my ability to dance so thats another compliment. I am pretty sure though that they will show me on tv for something, because when i was in the auditorium waiting to audtion they pulled me outside and i did an interview with Cat Deely(sp?) She asked me what kind of dancing i did, i explained my costume, showed her how to do a few moves, showed her how i did the Turkish Drop....She even "got mad" at me because quote " Your stomache is flatter than mine!" (said with her British accent). But anyway Im very proud that I got as far as I did! Now for some bad news...When i left the theatre, i called Roberto to pick me up and thats when i find out that my car got towed. So three hours later and THREE HUNDRED DOLLARS in towing fees and parking tickets i get my car back and we go home! This is the most crappiest part of the weekend. So i miss 5 days of work not expecting to spend a lot of money and now my account is overdrawn. SOOOOOOO who wants to do a little "Help Poor Steven Fundraiser" Maybe people can donate money at Tribal Caravan...or you all can buy some of our Thai Pants, or Cute bags....OR I could do an impromtu Workshop...??? Any ideas to help me out? Well thats all Folks! With Love Steven "of Atash Maya" Oh P.S. When i left the stage and went out the door they had a camera on my face and ask me some questions..and when they said do you have any final words for us i said "GO TRIBAL!!! WOOOO!

Ok, so i wanted to keep this a surprise for everyone..and its coming up soon...Sooo im going to tell everyone now. On the 22nd of this month I am going to audition for "So You Think You Can Dance". I know, its crazy! But im crazy and i have lots of confidence. On top of having a full time job i have been preparing by taking just about 20 hours a week of dance classes. Including teaching my own class and taking our troupe class im taking several levels of hip-hop, jazz, modern, popping & locking, break dancing, salsa, oh and a yoga class. So everyone keep me in your thoughts! Thank you!!!!

Surprisingly this photo was of me and my friends in 2005, when i was basically self taught, and sheltered in a tiny little desert town with a population of about 25,000. *sigh* Its fun to look back at the past and see how far you have come and all the wonderful things you have done in the last few years...

So, i want to know what it freaking takes to be able to teach a workshop at a festival or anywhere for that matter? Every person i have contacted who puts on an event is alreadly booked for like 2 years in advance. Its like what the hell! And then i ask if i could teach the following year and i get no response. And at some of these places one person teaches like 2 or 3 workshops. Why not let someone else teach too.? All i want to to is to be able to teach other people what i know, what i can offer, what im good at. I want to share that with people. But I just cant seem to be able to do that!!! So i want to know what i have to do to get out there? Do i have to be a BellyDance Super Star? Do i have to have somekind of big image? do i have to have a reputation? Do i need to have a resume? (btw, how can i get any of this, if people dont give me the chance?) So if you are an event coordinator or someone who teaches workshops frequently, can you guide me in the right direction? Tell me what i have to do to share what i have with other people? Im becoming very discouraged! I feel like im getting blown off before they know what they are missing out on!!!

I Didn't Know I Could Do That...Wow

Wow, I don't know what to say, let alone have words to say. I do know though that i am truely touched. I performed today at a local fundraising event for homeless kitties and I was only suppose to dance 1 set, but i ended up doing an encore set at the end of the event. Thats when it happened. A lady had come in later in the day(Im soo sorry i dont remember your name, im bad with names) and was glad to be able to see me do my second set. She hasn't danced in many years and is just starting to get back into the belly dance scene which is a wonderful thing to hear. After i finished dancing she came up to me, with tears in her eyes and told me how beautiful my dancing was and how much she is inspired. It touched me to know that i touched her. I really have no words to express how that made me feel. Im just glad that I can share that energy with other people through my dancing. I have been told that "i am something else" and that i have such a powerful energy inside me and i dont even realize what i have in me, and the things im going to do in the future. So anyway, I just wanted to share with everyone that experience i had to today.

Dance Classes

I'm SOOOOOOOOOO excited that we are going to start teaching beginning classes here in the big R/C. We already have like 10 people for sure and there is still a bunch more that are in limbo. I can't wait. Oh, and since im kind of handy with a sewing machine, i decided to try to make a coin belt. It went pretty well, and i sold it within 20 after i finished, and now i have like 4 more i have to make already, plus all our new students are going to want to have something. Shoot, I'll be Rollin in da dough!! this is me excited-----> :D

Kinda Nervous

Today is Punk Raqs, and I'm kinda nervous...It's going to be just Josh and I, because Annie's dad is mean and she can't go. But anyway, I'm nervous because we are basically doing 100% improv today and im Hoping that it all goes well. If not, then i guess it doesn't really matter.
