sure i guess so.

this past year has been a really tough one, but i am still a generally happy person so i guess so.

And thats my mama and my sister up there from last weekend in Yosemite.

My mom was first diagnosed with breast cancer about a month before my wedding in 2006. She started chemo soon after, then radiation. Throughout it all, we thought it was a minor bump in the road; the doctors assured us that it was a very small lump and that it had been removed completely with surgery.

Last year she started feeling swelling and pain in her breast. Over the months it got worse and worse. She went back to the doctors repeatedly, and they gave her various reasons for what she was going through ranging from "an infection" to "post traumatic stress". After antibiotics did nothing and it continued to get worse, they finally did a biopsy and found that it is cancer again. She has Inflammatory Breast Cancer, a very fast moving and aggressive disease. It is not common, hence the misdiagnosis for months. She has had a PET scan and it shows that the cancer has spread to her bones (not good!) but not to her organs (good!).

She is now going through a weekly round of chemo. She is in constant pain from the swelling of her breast, and the cancer has gotten into the lymph nodes in her arm so that it is also swollen. She has to put soft felt in her bra so that wearing it is not as painful. I have been taking her to appointments and Kaiser as well as UCSF to make sure we do everything we possibly can. My mother is a wonderful person, and we are very close. She is the glue that holds my family together. The outlook on this thing is not great, and the thought of losing my mom is....there just aren't words for that kind of pain.

SO. One of my small ways of doing what I can is joining my dear lifelong friend Erica in the Avon Breast Cancer Walk this July (my birthday weekend, in fact). We will be Team Kim for my mom, and I am going to walk my butt off. But hey guess what, I need to grovel for money because you have to raise $1800. I appreciate any help that any of you can offer, and I completely understand as well if you can't. I will also be spamming the shit out of myspace (drawing good from evil). Thank you all so much.
