Our house was just struck by lightning

   Wed, September 14, 2011 - 6:17 PM
Happened about an hour ago. The bolt visibly came down through the ceiling into the living room, angled toward the wall, and hit the wall behind my television; the wall the television is plugged into. The television went **BANG!** and then smoke started pouring out of the TV. Scared the holy fucking shit out of me. Made my roommate's mother's arm hairs sting. Our power is still on, the computers are fine, the internet is still up, and the digital cable box and DVD player, which were plugged into the same power strip as the TV, are both absolutely fine. It's as if the TV begged God for death, and God happily obliged. Which would be understandable, because it was a piece of shit that I'd been wanting to replace for years. Now I have an excuse to do so.

Oh, and I had another *extremely* nice sex dream about Mark A. Sheppard last night. But this seemed more significant.

Dammit!!!
I WISH my apartment had been struck by lightning and not harm me! I adored them in my east coast days, and I miss the weird terror :/

WOW! ......... that would have scared the crap out of me. Just the photo freaks me out.
Amazing it didn't blow out more than just the TV.

Glad you're okay. And sexy dreams are intact. :)

My roommate's mother felt it. She was the one who was standing next to the living room and actually saw the bolt. She said it felt like it burned her arm hairs. I was in my bedroom (where the TV was -- my bedroom and the living room share the wall that was hit by the bolt). All I smelled was the smoke that poured out of the TV after it exploded. :)

WOW! Glad you're okay. Perhaps the gods are really displeased with reality television. Did you ask what your roommate's mother was watching?

As dangerous as it is, I really miss the big lighting and thunder storms i remember from Iowa and Texas.

Well, she was watching Fox News, and I'd say that was a clear message from God if the TV *she* was watching was the one that got zapped, but it was the one in my bedroom, on the other side of the living room wall.

For the record, I've decided that if God struck my television with lightning, it doesn't mean that God wants me to get a new television, but that God doesn't want me to have a television *at all*. Like the Big Butter Jesus in Monroe, Ohio that was struck by lightning: You have to be willing to recognize a sign from God when you get one. If you have a 50-foot statue of Jesus at your church, and God strikes it down by lightning, you have to be willing to recognize that the answer isn't that God wants you to build the same statue out of a more flame-retardant material, but that God doesn't want you to have the statue AT ALL. I'm willing to recognize a very clear sign from God. I only hope that God's self-described minions are willing to do the same. Do yourselves a favor and respect the will of God. Don't rebuild Big Butter Jesus.
