about me
I'm a writer, a mom, a budding swordswoman, and a collector of past careers (I think I'm between 25 and 30 already, maybe more...). After too many years of putting my own interests on the back burner, I'm finally "taking the lead role in my own life", and DOING the stuff I'm interested in, instead of just watching, reading, and dreaming about it.

With that in mind, here are two great quotes I recently found:

1. “Nobody is obliged to be a genius, but everybody is obliged to participate.” Philippe Starck, designer

2. "If you're not prepared to be wrong, you'll never come up with anything original.” Ted Robinson, creativity expert

Assorted ramblings

I collect quotes - but not in any organized fashion. Some of my favorites have been paraphrased by people over time, and I'm not sure what the original was anymore - but I really try to get the right attribution when I can!

This one I first heard as "whatever bothers you most in someone else is an aspect of yourself" - here's the original:
"If you hate a person, you hate something in him that is part of yourself.
What isn't part of ourselves doesn't disturb us."
– Hermann Hesse

The writers of Buckaroo Banzai borrowed some good quotes for their script; two of my favorite (the BB versions) are:
"History was made at night!"
"Character is what you are in the dark!"

What was I thinking!?!

I came up with this phrase the other day, when I was feeling particularly frustrated with my current job situation. That day I decided I was ready to "collect another past career".

What does it mean? Well, I heard once, at least 10-15 years ago, that the average American would go through 7 careers in their working lifetime. (That number is bigger now.) Not 7 jobs, but 7 careers (I interpret that to mean very different types or fields of work).

I did a quick estimate back then, and r... read more

I love (Adrian) battles
I hate conflict
Give me a straightforward swordfight any day

Sometimes it seems that there has always been a division in my family. When my (9 years younger) brother was born, I felt like I’d been displaced; like I’d lost not only the “place” I thought I had in my family, but also some of the love. Yeah, I blamed him for years, and in many ways it wasn’t until we were both grown up that I was really able to begin seeing him as a person who I could have a good re... read more

...Sure, there's a bunch of crap out there on the web, and there are still some situations in which research can be done with better accuracy by going to "traditional" sources and skipping the internet research.

But there's lots of great stuff out there too. I found a site tonight with some great talks from people of all disciplines. And I found some great quotes while I was there. Here are a few of my favorites, I hope you enjoy!
