about me
This year I spun fire for the first time (and will again, next time I get the chance), but I got introduced to spinning flags at the same time and quickly got hooked! Now I have 3 sets of flags (and want to make more, since each pair is suited to different situations - daytime vs. under blacklight, lighter weight vs. heavier weight, etc.), and I've started spinning more regularly whenever I have 20 minutes, some free space, and my iPod.
Breaking through my old habits of introversion and self-consciousness has been occasionally difficult, and revelatory at the same time. As I look at my children and think "go on, get out there and try --- ", I gain a new perspective on my old tendency to hold back and be shy. It really is a waste of time, since no-one's going to come and try to drag the brilliance out of you - you have to let it out yourself. Be yourself and be proud of that. If you have a desire, a goal, then go for it - don't limit yourself before anyone else has the chance to even see you and your talents. I also love finding cool quotes, so here's a couple of my current faves: 1. "You just have to decide if you're a Tigger or an Eeyore. I think I'm clear where I stand on the great Tigger/Eeyore debate. Never lose the childlike wonder. It's just too important. It's what drives us." – Randy Pausch (1960 - 2008), CMU Professor and author of “The Last Lecture” 2. “Nobody is obliged to be a genius, but everybody is obliged to participate.” – Philippe Starck, designer 3. “Make the most of yourself … for that is all there is of you” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

I collect quotes - but not in any organized fashion. Some of my favorites have been paraphrased by people over time, and I'm not sure what the original was anymore - but I really try to get the right attribution when I can!

I'm finally getting settled in my new place, after taking months to find a house and get moved. And by the way, moving stinks! I figure I'll be waiting a few years before I do *that* again, and by the next time I'm going to purge a bunch of the junk I've been carrying around with me. There's really no reason I should have some of this stuff, but whenever I start sorting through it, I keep getting caught in the minutiae - and that's a dangerous place fo... read more
Every year at this time I think of the things and people who touch my world.

In the last year I've had so very much to be thankful for: family and friends old and new, near and far, casual and intimate; new experiences; new skills; new places visited. Whether I've known you for years or just a few days; whether acquaintance, companion, confidante, lover, teacher, or student; whether we've worked, fought, or played together; you have been a gift in my life. Every year for the last fiv... read more
Well, I was finally able to log on this morning for the first time in a week - but I still couldn't log on from home this morning, which is pretty strange...

So now I'm waiting (a little more patiently) until all the rest of the tribes and functions come back. I love Tribe - and though I use MySpace for some stuff, it's not nearly the same, and really doesn't work as a substitute for this place. So, Welcome back, tribe! I hope the convalescence is rapid, with no relapses!
