about me
im still holding onto hope for tribe, even though i know it used to be better. id rather know a little about everything than everything about a little. im an overuser of parentheses. my mind is a random place and often an entity of its own, it cracks me up with jokes even i only half get. when given two options i like to choose the one i havent experienced before. i dont mind being wrong, that means i learned something new. im a biologist working for the government (NOAA/NMFS) trying to save the oceanic airbreathers (turtles, birds, cetaceans) who get accidentally caught fishing. i like my job, but will never love any work with the intensity with which i love my free time. my free time i try to spend with interesting people in beautiful places. there are so many of both, i need more time !!

...we had been practicing together for about a month under the tutelage of coach chad, who is an accomplished double talker and a master motivator:

i havent been on tribe much lately, and paddling is the main culprit. ive been meaning to blog about it, as it has provided great experiences and never ending human drama. ill give it my best go...

first of all, its not rowing, its paddling. i can understand the confusion and the tendency to call it rowing, and some people take offense when i correct them, but ballroom dancers dont want to be called salsa dancers, 6 string guitarists wouldnt let you call them a bassist and try calling a ... read more

on of my responsibilites at this NOAA office is to maintain satellite phone contact with our people at sea. 2 days ago one of our field biologists called in and was complaining to me of a scratch that he got at sea. most (if not all) of the fishing boats are small rinky-dink vessels lacking in first aid materials, antibiotics, etc (they dont even have showers or toilets). so he was trapped on this boat with an arm that was oozing nastiness and wouldnt stop swelling and the fishermen werent co... read more

there is good reason to fear sharks.

they want to eat you. they would enjoy every minute of it, unless you fight too hard. if you fight too hard, they back off and let you bleed for awhile. then they eat you later. see, they dont like to eat thrashing things that may poke their eye. but they do love to eat. eating is what they are famous for, what they do best.

heres my list of the 6 scariest sharks, from least scary to most scary:

THIS IS GROSS. YOU'VE BEEN WARNED.

i pretty much hate excercise. wait, no, thats not true. i like tricking myself into excercise, i just hate running. running is how your PE teacher used to punish you. "you think youre funny eric? why dont you run a couple laps and then tell me how funny you are! I SAID RUN DAMNIT RUN!"

yeah so i try to maintain some basic fitness level. if zombies attack, i dont have to be the fastest person, just faster than you, buddy. i maintain my level of fitness ... read more
