Shrinky Dink Karate Earrings

Project Level:Easy
Project List:Shrinky Dink (any color)
Beads
sharpie fine point pen
nail polish clear
Ear wire
wire 20 gauge

I made these earrings a couple of years ago so they a bit worn out and I don't think I added the polish on them so they the karate kanji is disappering.
All you do is cut a piece about 2 long by 1 inch wide shrinky dink. You can make it bigger or smaller. You can also do this on black shirinky dink and use a gold marker. Write what you want but I choose Karate in Japanese Kanji. I think Chinese,Japanese and Arabic lettering is beautiful. I know there's other languages with beautiful lettering too. You can search it up-very interesting. Also don't forget to make a small hole on top either hole puncher or some other type of puncher.

For instructions on how to shrink shrinky dinks go to
shrinkydinks.com/pages/ins...ctions.pdf

After it cooled you can assemble your beads on the wire and then use either o-rings or the wire itself to connect it. I didn't use 0-rings so it is an extra.
Good place to find words in Kanji is

Day of the Dead Head Pieces

Project Level : Easy
Project List:
Flowers
skulls(Halloween is the best time to get stuff like this)
feathers(Fishing stores)
french barrette(Jo Ann Fabrics)
small pieces of fabric
batting-warm and natural
Aleene's glue
cardboard
clamps

I wanted to make a cool head piece or pieces for my Halloween Costume. This could also be for a Goth piece too.
I cut out two oval 3 inch card board pieces. I then cut 2 pieces of the warm type of batting used for quilts(warm and natural batting) and glued first the batting then the fabric. I used clamps to make sure everything stayed glued on both sides. I then glued the french barrettes on the back.
I waited 24 hrs for everything to dry.
The next day I cut out the flowers and added glue to the stems then clamped them. One flower on first and then I glued the feather stem. Then I glued the other flower. I used clamps on the flowers and feather. I waited a few hours before I glued on the skulls. I did paint my skulls to look like the sugar skulls before I glued them on but thats an extra thing to do . You don't have to do it.
You could add tulle, lace and any other thing. I didn't have enough time to do all the things I wanted to. I might be adding stuff to it.

Places to get feathers:
Fishing stores-they sell lots of different kinds of feathers
I got mine at LL Bean in Freeport
I have previous blogs for online sites for feathers

Tribaret Bra

Project Level-Intermediate to Advance
Project List-
Underwire Bra
Fabric for the outside and inside
Beads Strung already
Coin Necklaces
Hooks-Real good ones
Beads -glass
Beading Thread
Beading Needle
Gold Trim

I've made a coin bra before. To see how to take apart and cover a bra go to
people.tribe.net/erikaschi...8bd4791ec9
has lots and lots of links

I worked on this bra for about 3 months. After taking apart and covering it, I added the layer of already strung beads to the front. I did an extra stringing of the beads just as a precaution. I then started hand stitching the gold trim on top of the strung beads.

After looking at it- it was too empty so I hand beaded glass beads to the trim. I then added the cabachons and hand beded those. This is what took so long to do. I then hand stitched the necklaces on the bottom of the cups. I got those at Goodwill for a 1.00 each.

I added the straps after the cups where done. I will have to redo them since I made them too small. I added big hooks on the back. This is very important so your costume stays in place.

I can't wait to wear this to a show someday. It matches my Hakama pants too.

Hakama Pants

Project Level - Easy to Moderate Easy
Project List-
Depending how tall you are 4 1/2 to 5 1/2 yards of your choose of fabric.
2 1/2 inch wide elastic
Measuring tape
Pattern measurments-List on bottom

I wanted a new look for pants besides harem/pantaloons and add some martial arts look to a costume I was gonna wear for a bo staff bellydance piece. I found these modified Hakama pants pattern that would be great for my new costume.

What are Hakama pants?www.japanesekimono.com/japane...nts.htm
Traditional Japanese Hakama pants are worn today by Martial artists or in traditional Japanese ceremonies, etc.

I saw this pattern here and modified it.
www.geocities.com/anne_lies...hakama.htm
It has this long tie around which I took apart and redid an elastic waistband instead.
The waist band is about 3 inches wide with 2 1/2 inch wide elastic.

I also sewed it up on the sides where traditionally the sides aren't sewn all the way up.

They are quite easy to sew up and the pleats on this modified one are easy. Tradional Hakama pants have a back board on them.
www.bubishi.com.au/shop/ima...akama.jpg
I wasn't interested in getting this technical with it. I just omitted this and I think this pattern doesn't even have a section to add to it.
The pleats are easy but they also mean something.
