WIR TUNS

and the dottore don alfreddo pomodoro miracoloso 500 still got fun... this was the main objective for great art after all that art debate.

in other words ::

the scenario is the message.
the prototype is the medium.
(pomodoro bolzano, 1997)

to cut a long and happy story short we set up an exhibition and a mixed reality environment .
happenings at the same time in real space in Regensburg town galery and in virtual space on the Second Life platform.
today arrived björn aka miulew, our first ever artist-in-residence joining us from sweden.
saturday aug 18. he's hosting the international headphone festival Plac.Art.X .
next week we'll do talks, videos and the long night of the avatar orchestra metaverse.
feel free to visit... - just search for art.think.box in Second Life.

... busy all eve following threads and reading rants...

finally i checked http://www.zaads.com, a fast growing nu community with quite a lot of tribsters to be found.
zaadz is dutch and means seeds, that would be you and me and all the people being the community.
as far as i figure it out some hundred people just joined the last weeks, they are already over 1500 (was 500 in december) ... changing for good, to get a first foot in or to just set a sign...

clearly todays saadz is still pre-beta! but that should be fun, we can bring forward our ideas on how the nu community should evolve. the people from zaads are eager to listen in order to save the world together ... ;-D
right now you have a profile and a blog, can upload photos into your gallery and make friends -
you'll definately find some of your friends there anyway, at least me :-)
other features are promised to come verry soon, like in a month time...

i won't keep ted's alert @tribe.ideas unreferred to
even if some of you already know it or already put their honorable words into the battle.

This is an interview with the new Tribe CEO; this URL has been posted all over various Tribe discussions. You can post comments directly on the website below the article! Since OPW is an industry publication, maybe someone will take notice that Tribe is actually in trouble with it's new changes. Maybe. It's worth a shot, because Tribe certainly isn't listening to anyone here!

No Fairy Nocturnes :: Big Worries Instead

dearest friends!
one of pomodoro bolzano's performance scenarios in 1997 titled ART.EXECUTED and the following one: ART.THIS IS NOT A PRACTICE RUN... i think that defines the situation for a lot of people here at tribe now who put plenty of their lifetime into tribetime to help cocreate this rich community with their free spirit, openmindedness and acceptance of the other. and to connect and start a networked community probably not to be seen anymore on this planet in the near future... am i to pessimistic? i doubt it very much!!!

so i decided to go through my bookmarks and send everybody an 'add to friends', in the hope to be friend to a lot of people i used to only follow up and loved for what they were and did and said - :) ...this is my mail:

dear ***

this whole thing now at tribe is really worrying and seems absurd...

WHAT I'M WORRIED MOST IS that my bookmarks won't work anymore
if i'm not a first degree friend of everybody I GREW TO LOVE EVEN WITHOUT BEING A DIRECT FRIEND YET... and THAT I LOOSE TOUCH to this very exciting movement.
this is even worse as i'm not from the SFbayarea, couldn't meet you around the corner and already depend on peoples powers to help me create my stuff and to transcend my pretty unexciting surroundings to the whole flavour of what it means to be alive.

i joined tribe more than a year ago and by now tribe life and tribe people occupy a lot of my time and give me a lot of fun, energy and insight to real people who don't need hiding but are proud for what they are and do..
(i'm not talking only about my friends here, but of the many people i encountered or stooped over in tribes or in their blogs or galleries)

INDEED, IT SEEMED TO GOOD TO BE REAL, like )'( or decom, i suppose.

would you like to take me on to your friendlist
so that in case there are ressorts spotted to move to
or other strategies developped i won't loose touch.

i'd really appreciate this and be most thankful.

did tribe already censor your photos in your gallery and blog?
would that be visible again for me being a friend?
or did you take action already and remove your "crime"?

let's survive this new and probably biggest blow up to date to the community!!!!

greetings from bavaria
yours max

back to the roots - a brilliant morning in the lab talking about some important processes and highly possible facts of our current work, doings and imaginary projections ghosting around our heads the last weekend.
it happened to end in extreme excitement, some happiness and relief and shifted into a brilliantly relaxed nonsense mode raving about dr seuss and remembering the heartbreaking dong with a luminous nose.

so the jumblies sprang to mind and made me think that our fairy could well be a jumblie sailing away in a sieve, with only a beautiful pea-green veil tied with a riband by way of a sail, to a small tobacco-pipe mast... and all night long she sails away; and when the sun went down, she whistles and warbles a moony song to the echoing sound of a coppery gong, in the shade of the mountains brown....

this afternoon we launched the second level of the fairy's wishlist with about 50 wishes sounding now in the sculpture. tomorrow we prepare a much shorter first presentation for the web, mostly in german though as there haven't been too many international wishers yet.

so tonight i dived in nonsense verse and decided to share some of it.
i recommend to read it loud. at least its a must be for me.

The Dong with a Luminous Nose
by Edward Lear

When awful darkness and silence reign
Over the great Gromboolian plain,
Through the long, long wintry nights;--
When the angry breakers roar
As they beat on the rocky shore;--
When Storm-clouds brood on the towering heights
Of the Hills of the Chankly Bore:--

Then, through the vast and gloomy dark,
There moves what seems a fiery spark,
A lonely spark with silvery rays
  Piercing the coal-black night,--
  A Meteor strange and bright:--
Hither and thither the vision strays,
  A single lurid light.

Slowly it wanders,--pauses,--creeeps,--
Anon it sparkles,--flashes and leaps;
And ever as onward it gleaming goes
A light on the Bong-tree stems it throws.
And those who watch at that midnight hour
From Hall or Terrace, or lofty Tower,
Cry, as the wild light passes along,--
    'The Dong!--the Dong!
'The wandering Dong through the forest goes!
    'The Dong! the Dong!
'The Dong with a luminous Nose!'

    Long years ago
The Dong was happy and gay,
Till he fell in love with a Jumbly Girl
Who came to those shores one day,
For the Jumblies came in a sieve, they did,--
Landing at eve near the Zemmery Fidd
    Where the Oblong Oysters grow,
And the rocks are smooth and gray.
And all the woods and the valleys rang
With the Chorus they daily and nightly sang,--
'Far and few, far and few,
    Are the lands where the Jumblies live;
Their heads are green, and their hands are blue
And they went to sea in a sieve.'

Happily, happily passed those days!
    While the cheerful Jumblies staid;
They danced in circlets all night long,
To the plaintive pipe of the lively Dong,
    In moonlight, shine, or shade.
For day and night he was always there
By the side of the Jumbly Girl so fair,
With her sky-blue hands, and her sea-green hair.
Till the morning came of that hateful day
When the Jumblies sailed in their sieve away,
And the Dong was left on the cruel shore
Gazing--gazing for evermore,--
Ever keeping his weary eyes on
That pea-green sail on the far horizon,--
Singing the Jumbly Chorus still
As he sate all day on the grassy hill,--
'Far and few, far and few,
    Are the lands where the Jumblies live;
Their heads are green, and their hands are blue
And they went to sea in a sieve.'

But when the sun was low in the West,
  The Dong arose and said;--
--'What little sense I once possessed
'Has quite gone out of my head!'--
And since that day he wanders still
By lake or forest, marsh and hill,
Singing--'O somewhere, in valley or plain
'Might I find my Jumbly Girl again!
'For ever I'll seek by lake and shore
'Till I find my Jumbly Girl once more!'

Playing a pipe with silvery squeaks,
Since then his Jumbly Girl he seeks,
And because by night he could not see,
He gathered the bark of the Twangum Tree
On the flowery plain that grows.
And he wove him a wondrous Nose,--
A Nose as strange as a Nose could be!
Of vast proportions and painted red,
And tied with cords to the back of his head.
--In a hollow rounded space it ended
With a luminous Lamp within suspended,
      All fenced about
      With a bandage stout
To prevent the wind from blowing it out;--
And with holes all round to send the light,
In gleaming rays on the dismal night.

And now each night, and all night long,
Over those plains still roams the Dong;
And above the wall of the Chimp and Snipe
You may hear the sqeak of his plaintive pipe
While ever he seeks, but seeks in vain
To meet with his Jumbly Girl again;
Lonely and wild--all night he goes,--
The Dong with a luminous Nose!
And all who watch at the midnight hour,
From Hall or Terrace, or lofty Tower,
Cry, as they trace the Meteor bright,
Moving along through the dreary night,--
'This is the hour when forth he goes,
'The Dong with a luminous Nose!
    'Yonder--over the plain he goes,
      'He goes!
      'He goes;
'The Dong with a luminous Nose!'

winter arrived very gently and equalises everything into a soft and peacefully shining white surface for the mind to relax. to me this is the right change at the right time...
surprisingly a lot of things change for the good without me taking to much action and here is a lot of trust in the spirit of our fairy.

the manouver finally leaves time to meet again with friends, i had a lot of interesting talks about how people are getting on with their wishes. one friend told me she has a wishbox at home, so she wouldn't need a fairy granting wishes to her. asked how the wishbox would work she described a little box where she puts in a wish every morning. the next morning she takes out yesterdays wish to put in todays and so on. She said its really good working for her. the whole flat is covered with tons of wishes now and that would be very nice. so a wishbox seems to work perfect for the right person...

our fairy doesn't work like a wishbox yet, she is public and the same for everybody, that must make her suspect to the most.

fairy isn't trusted because she seems to be only an artwork. i compare her to a tibetan tree of wishes, where people write their wish on a piece of paper and hang it onto the tree. the big difference in our fairy's case is that people speak their wishes on the fairyphone instead of writing it and that we care about getting the wish sounding from the fairy, her physical sculpture as well as her virtual graphic user interface.

we now take the viewpoint of the distant observer and find the following situation : the launch of fairy was almost perfect. the sculpture as a matter of fact is beautiful with the different lightmoods and the faint sound of a fountain. in patches the voices saying their wishes and the fairy offering her talent and inviting you to call her adds up to this.

when we conceived the project we underestimated how important it would be to present and translate the fairy as a real and somehow trustworthy somehow miraculous instance like the above mentioned wishbox.
on the other hand we probably suffer along the lines of the saying "never trust an artist", he/she only wants to sell us some art and the very unique and outstanding mind behind it. or is it that artists are branded to lead a loose lifestyle, don't work like other people do, sleep til late and are unreliable. most artists i know would only match that picture to a certain degree, if at all. and they would enjoy their lifestyle and get the most out of it. besides most of them are really working extremely hard.

so people don't seem to just pick up the phone and wish
(i know they all have wishes) because they don't have trust in neither the fairie nor the artists.

so how could we certify the fairy for mainly general disbelievers anyway
and how will we make ourselves trustworthy without too many words?
our aim is to work absolutely unobtrusive, to be open to receive all signals and perceive all signs. we always try to achieve the highest respect to the individual input of our participants and hardly ever had to interfere by cutting or even censoring the contributions proposed, and thats quite remarkable considering the long history in pomodoro bolzano's participation art manouvers.

what else happened the last days:

# sound artists and musicians are magnifying our events already since it all started back in 1992. last october we invited some of them to use our fountain recordings as a base for an original compositition to contribute to the edition pomodoro bolzano sound art multiple "next fairy". after a little helterskelter getting all the threads together we managed to produce 100 + 30 pieces and will have a kicking cd-presentation next saturday with loopland and jori +okyo doing their soundvideoartperformance at galery optic nerv in regensburg. some of the pieces you can listen to or download at: http://www.myspace.com/pomodorobolzano

## silencer goes fairy land -multiple, unnumbered, 38 pieces consisting of a pb silencer, a fairylight by our art partner gabelor and the pomodoro bolzano postcard classic "are you a netpoint?"

### a lovely navyblue fairy kapuzenpulli (fairy hooded jumper) in cooperation with pitch.pob wearable science fiction.

#the most exciting development of the last days was jori's venture into the "definitions of a fairy", a new tribe started a week ago inmidst tribe and growing by an enormous rate. jori seems to be on the right track and the amount of remarkable members there from all over the world seems to be a key for our current research.

thx for reading so long.
i wish you all very well,
a peaceful day and an untroubled night.
and i wish for your wishes
to give fairy some more fuel every day!

it all started out pretty harmless with a tube filled with light and sound.
add some bubbling fountain and get a lot of water in.
first thing i found out: it makes a whole lot of people pee...

now, some month later the tube isn't a tube but a fairy and the sound isn't only water but from the people adressing their wishes to this very fairy -
the people here slowly discover level by level what manifests in town for wintry days - the fairy of regensburg - not only a beautiful sculpture but a creature with a gigantic network of the most different nature and power.

we wanted the faery to be a virtual creature so we gave her a blue light and sound and wishes to exist on and sensors to react to the visitors by changing her lightmood. From this physical naissance as a sculpture with an existence-mode /x-mode she will organically grow over the course of the next 7 weeks.

the last week proved that there's more to expect:
people seem to like the idea to reflect about their 3 wishes - i wonder if its a crosscultural thing or only ghosting around western minds?
thats where the roots of our minds and fantasies stem from. we are grown up with fairy tales and different fairy dreams.

so here's to you, all you people out there ::
get on the phone and dial fairy.

+49-(0)941-78 03 95 47

she'll invite you to tell her your wishshshes.
1 or 2 or 3... - as the stories goes.

the strange thing is that the current fairy moves with and in between and around the project start to really get hold me -
i start to believe into the power of the wishes of all the people phoning.
i get the feeling that all the wishes not only get together in the sound projection at the exhibition or in the wishlist but join up forces to become one big wish.

-:) enjoy your wishes

listen what other people wish. the wishlist @www.pbspace.de will be started soon and continuously updated.
there behind the wishballs you'll even find more fairy moves
as for example more than half the tracks from NextFairy, the latest cd-release @edition pomodoro bolzano.
with erno villafuel, loopland, jori +okyo and eclipse sol-air, artists we very much like to work with and love their sounds.

hush hush,
the fairy presence sneaking more and more into our everyday life
so jori cleared the decks for a tribe trying to define a fairy from a faery and so on and to unfold a critical path through all times of fairydom to the actual uber.future.trends he's spotting on his radars:
http://tribes.tribe.net/fairyfactory
you'll meet a lot of fairies there - experiencing is believing...
already happening strange things to me... feeling my way through eyes wide shut.

...as a father of two teenage daughters and knowing so many youngsters checking and exploring around in chats, weblogs, model- or amateur photographer environments i'm finding things at times pretty worrying...
the recent murder of taylor behl shouldn't frighten you (even if it does) but maximise the sensibility for the possible dangers of the virtual space with people being able to stage themselves as all kind of personalities -
i copied this from a friends blog to pass on this piece of traumatic information as a warning and a memory to taylor...

Teenager Killed by a Man She Met on MySpace

The remains of Taylor Behl, a 17-year-old student from Virginia who was reported missing just over two weeks ago, were recently found in an isolated area in Mathews County. The prime suspect Ben Fawley, who claims to be an amateur photographer, is currently being held by authorities. Taylor has a Profile Page on the Social Network Site MySpace where you can read a spate of peoples' comments, from when she went missing right up to the time when her body was discovered. Please bare in mind that reading this teenager's eulogies and dedications (written mostly by other teenagers) is bound to upset quite a few of you, so maybe avoid doing this if you have an important meeting coming up during the course of your day. Keep in mind also that with over 30 million subscribers to MySpace, the odds of interacting with a real-life psycho, a paedophile or even a malevolent predator (male or female) are considerably HIGH.

Now I'm not really here to preach about the perils of extracurricular Social Networking, but I do urge the younger members of this Community to be extra-careful and use their common sense (especially if you are female) when dealing OFFLINE with a stranger you met online. The relationship between Taylor and Ben began on Myspace, and allegedly her killer was posing as an amateur photographer, so please also beware of folks who offer their Professional Services to you for FREE.

after 3000 miles europe heavy working stop @gabelors workshop for fairy development - we didn't believe it but we managed to get all 8 modules ready for regensburg. thank you so much, gabelor.
back here at pomodoro bolzano is sheer amazement.
straight ahead we can dig deep into functions and nervous system.
and another lovely surprize is waiting for me:
with pomodoro bolzano we won the art prize 2005 of the city of regensburg. we share it with the trio novantanove and the pianist lukas klotz.

the boyz from pomodoro bolzano are working hard on our fairy installation in november and i saw some prepress designs. how great to be in a place with a good internet connetion here in the middle of the mountains in casa berger at my brothers place. his paintings are very inspiring and the remoteness does the rest...
unfortunately my mom got a high fever and we have to postpone our journey by a couple of days. but we already had a lovely curry and the company of guel and mathias from berlin is great.
tomorrow we will shoot some more pics from the paintings and hopefully find the time to load some up in my gallery...

dear friends, what a lovely journey!
being adventurous and conducting my road via the most remote places in the alps and the pyrenees feels like a dream coming true...
yesterday lucia, roger, monica and little uma went to the sea near tarragona and so i am taking barcelone pretty light, chilling in the flat in the calle providencia just below parc guell, getting ready to continue the tour with a little night ride back into the remote mountains near the arragon border.
my barcelone sunday wasn't exactly all that interesting:
it started with a congestion of the toilette. to solve the problem i went round the gracia quarter looking in building crates for the odd piece of tube or wire.
as a follow-up incident i found my car being stolen or removed by traffic wardens but a minute or so later when i had already given in to bad luck thinking it turned out, that i had mistaken the parking location by only about 30 metres. if you know the map of barcelone with all roads kind of in squares parallel to each other you might understand my misconception.
it was just a pain in the ass so to say but i did allow it to take kind of over...
now everything's fine and i conquered that depressing fateful thinking to move on to more fun and experience...
i stocked up my gallery for you, some 40 travel pictures - enjoy!
have a great week coming and stay well,
autumn's definately on its way :-)) mmm

feel free to check them out, they are great: http://www.laserent.com/

we had a great time @HYBRID, the 2005 edition of ars electronica...
lots of high inspirations flowing...
i had some favourites of course like the life performances of jaap blonk and maryanne ammacher, the roachbot of garnet hertz and the reacTable of the music technology group at the "interface culture in concert" up in the skyloft... they teamed up live with another group performing at UPF in barcelone - the audience there seemed even more excited than the people at the festival in linz... (on the photo you can see the barcelone table big and in the upper left corner the small picture from what was happening at the same time here in linz)
( http://www.upf.es/ =search 4 reacTable )
one thing bugged me: i met this 2 guys from den haag who pointed out, that they would do a kick ars - mural near WIFI tramstation. i scanned all around the tramstations, tunnels and motorways but didn't find them... did that really happen? does anybody know?
... meanwhile in regensburg jori +okyo gave a mega sound performance "nano.noise_3316" - i look forward to more!

and now ::
i'm off for a quickie to milan to get back to the +okyo show 2005 -
federico, i'm coming!

peace and love to all of u out there
