about me
Eccentricity is not, as dull people would have us believe, a form of madness. It is often a kind of innocent pride, and the man of genius and the aristocrat are frequently regarded as eccentrics because genius and aristocrat are entirely unafraid of and uninfluenced by the opinions and vagaries of the crowd.
Edith Sitwell (1887 - 1964)

If a man insisted always on being serious, and never allowed himself a bit of fun and relaxation, he would go mad or become unstable without knowing it.
Herodotus (484 BC - 430 BC),

Basic research is what I am doing when I don't know what I am doing.
Wernher von Braun (1912 - 1977)

About me ….

Well there is some thing I have been trying to figure out for a while. I guess there are several ways I could answer this section. I could say the normal things about me [for that you will have to wait]. Or I could be real and bore you to death, I will try not to put you to sleep till the end. OK here is the early bit, I was born and raised in Ventura County. Not too much happened, other than I discovered that I liked History, and through this I discovered the Renaissance Pleasure Faire.

I first went in 1981 with my parents and was overwhelmed. Here where people doing what I had only read about. Needless to say I kept returning as a guest in costume till 1988 when I joined the Guild of Saint Michael [ I have been with the Guild ever sense]. With the Guild I was in the First Company of Foot, Queens Guard, and now the Germans [Landsknechts]. I have also keep up on my unofficial studies of 16th Century History. I have a Library of over 140 books in subjects ranging from period food, furniture, building and architecture, fortification, weapons, and daily life. Yes I have been called a Period Nazi.

If I have not already put you to sleep, you will see that I have said nothing relationships. Well there have been none for a long time. I have held several jobs in a roller coaster style over the years. From working at the Corporate level for a major company to work as an Apprentice Carpenter manhandling concrete forms, back to working in the Corporate World. Every job I have had has involved traveling sometimes for weeks at a time. You can see that this has not helped in maintaining or starting any kind of relationship. As I enter the second third of my live I have decided to change this. And am now looking forward to seeing my home and not just using it as an expensive PO Box.

As to the part about me that most people want to read about, I have been told I am a good listener and friend. I enjoy evenings at home [when I can] either watching TV or a movie [I have over 150 of them]. I am not in to the Bar seen [I have a hard time hearing thing due to working in Construction] but I do enjoy non-amplified concerts. I like the outdoors, I like camping and fishing. I really enjoy when I can do a period 16th Century Campaign, setting up all of my period Gear for a weekend and roughing it. I also like the other kind of vacation where you Hotel it and see the sites.

Well if you have not fallen to sleep yet you have reached the end. At this point in my life I have nothing left to prove or hide. If there is anything else you want to know all you have to ask me.

To all,

Jerry and Susannah Wood, (Jill and Jerry's 7-year-old daughter) will be coming back to Southern California from their new home in Colorado Springs on the weekend of Sept. 13th. When Jill passed away on July 22nd, most of her friends from California and from Renaissance Faire could not make it to Colorado at that time.

Jerry would really like to see everyone and to give anyone a chance to say a word or two about Jill.

Please pass this on.

Thank you, Michael Foster

My Testimonials

October 20, 2005
Mike is part demonic pixie, and part Archimede's spirit let loose. He built the incredible renaissance crane that supports my crowscage in the pic on Beth's
tribesite. Give him a problem and that Taurian brain goes to work. When I'm not praising him, I'm cursing at him for his steadfast(some call it stubborn)opinions, but I always examine his views, even if I disagree, for the merit and logic that lies somewhere there.
I've known him since the olde days of Agoura, and we've shared some seriously silly situations. I have lived like a king at faire because he's usually there to not just show me how I fubared my pavillion setup, but ALWAYS is there to help correct my Rube Goldberg engineering. I know the camp is optimized for layout, and will remain standing when everything around me sinks into mud,or blows away in the dust, because my friend was there to help.
And he like to use two swords in battle- which is a scary thing in itself.
I once overheard two Irish mercs in battle, standing over his "dead"body say "He's an engineer-let's decapitate him,and pickle his head-we can then interrogate him later"
He should host his own home-unimprovement show,"Seige Time".
