I've always considered word "interesting" to be a good word. However, the Chinese have an old curse: "May you live in interesting times." The idea, of course, was that if your life was "interesting", it meant that horrible things were happening. It wouldn't just be the same old thing... perhaps your crops would die off, or your livestock would become ill, or your home would be attacked by brigands or invaders. So... interesting = bad, for the ancient Chinese.

My day starts with the power going out and the water being shut off. Our landlord (a wonderfully nice, but old and stroke-stricken man) hired a not so nice property manager who doesn't seem to care that he is required to give at least 24 hours notice before messing with utilities while his ultra-cheap but not very talented hired hands "fix" things in other apartments... while he ignores the issues that have been outstanding in ours for months. But I digress.

Since I had some wireframes for a short-deadline project, this did not bode well. Not to mention that I was to review a new illustrator's portfolio during a phone conference at 1:00 pm. Oh well. Thank goodness for cell phones, so I was at least able to make the meeting. Then the day took a turn for the... "interesting"?

This time it's the *good* meaning of the word. My job today consists of coming up with new concepts for creatures, then describing them to the illustrators so they can draw them. Some illustrators can take an idea and just run with it... but others need to get explicit instructions before they are able to head in the right direction. So in effect... I'm being paid to daydream of men and monsters. An "interesting" day, indeed.
