Leaps & Bounds Rabbit Rescue has sprung!

I am proud to announce that Leaps & Bounds Rabbit Rescue is now up and operational. I am excited because I helped form this non-profit group. We rescue rabbits from shelters, take care of any medical issues they may have, including spay/neuter, and then foster them until we can find them a permanent home. We adopt out to indoor homes only. "Indoor" you say, "don't you just keep them in a hutch in the backyard?" Heck no, these are house pets, just like your dog and cat. Rabbits litter box train fairly easily and as long as you bunny proof your home (keep wires out of reach and other fun things to chew on) provide them safe chewing alternatives and love them, they are simply wonderful companions. Some will cuddle with you on the couch just like a dog or a cat. You can find many of our adoptable rabbits on Petfinder.com and also visit our site at http://leapsandboundsrabbitrescue.cfsites.org. Rabbits are awesome, every home should have at least one.

Woo hoo! I am so excited about the start of the Olympics tomorrow. I just love watching the Olympics, always have. Maybe it's because I never thought of myself as much of an athlete so I live vicariously through them. Who knows. I love all the background stories, the segments about the host country, even the sports that most people don't watch. What's even better is that I am on track to be attending the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. Tickets go on sale October 3. I'm sooo psyched. I've been counting the days ever since I found they were going to be close by. I had ordered tickets to go to the Atlanta games but there was a snafu with my credit card and I lost out. I am going to ensure that everything goes right this time around. Enjoy the Games everyone...go USA!

Interesting twist of events this afternoon. Today from 2-5 PM Taco Bell was giving away free tacos because Jacoby Ellsbury of the Boston Red Sox stole second base during Game 2 of the World Series. I went to two different Taco Bells and got one taco at each, I was getting a little compensation for Mr. Bear, who very patiently sat by and watched the games with me. So with two tacos in hand and almost home I was stopped at the intersection of Auburn and Greenback when I saw a homeless man with a sign looking for assistance. Having had a very bad experience attempting to feed several homeless people in the past, I normally don't offer food to the homeless anymore because most won't accept it. This time I decided to give it another go. I held up the two bags to show the man and much to my delight he ran right over with a big smile on his face. I opened the window and passed them to him saying, "compliments of the Boston Red Sox." He smiled, thanked me and immediately found a place to sit down and eat. It was nice to share my happines of the Red Sox winning the World Series in this unusual way.

New England Sports Rule!

I am in seventh heaven. The only way it could be better would be if I could be at all the games in person. First the Patriots go 8-0 and are on course for a perfect to near perfect season ending with a win at the Superbowl. This coming week will be our biggest challenge, the Colts in Indy. I am confident the Patriots will come out victorious and hope I can find the game on TV. Otherwise I will be scouting out some sports bar and hunkering down at the bar to watch the game.

Now on to the Red Sox, holy shit they won the World Series AGAIN and swept it no less! They don't win for 80+ years and now they win twice is four years! How awesome is that! ? Wicked pissa (I would imagine only those in New England will be familiar with that term) What a great team and great teamwork. It is great to be a fan of New England sports right now!

YEAH! My foster bunny was adopted last night. The family who adopted her met her at the Adopt-a-thon we had at Country Club Plaza a few weeks back. I'm so excited for Smokey, she's going to a wonderful home. Of course, the day we finished revamping her living quarters was the day we got the call she was being adopted! Isn't that always the way. Well, at least now we have an awesome set up for another foster bunny. We'll probably get a new foster bunny the beginning of November. I'll post pictures when he/she arrives.

After finally getting a rabbit of my own in early May (see my Timmy pictures) I decided to help out other homeless rabbits in our area. I volunteer my time with the New Hope Animal Rescue. We hold rabbit adoptions most every Saturday at the Petco in Roseville on Douglas Boulevard from 12-4. Most animal shelters put a majority of their focus on dogs and cats so the rabbits are left behind or left out all together. New Hope places a major emphasis on rabbit rescue and I really enjoy spending several hours of my weekend cuddling rabbits. I just acquired a new rabbit in my household as I decided to foster a rabbit that the son of a friend of mine could no longer keep as he was moving, with his new bride, to a home where pets were not allowed. Her name is Smokey and she is a beautiful gray Mini Rex. She is spayed, litter box trained and completely loveable. As with all the rabbits we adopt out, she is an indoor rabbit. If you bunny proof your home (they love to chew), rabbits make great indoor pets. Because neither of the rabbits in my home like to walk on slippery surfaces because they can't get traction, we don't have to cage them in, the floor does it for us. If you are interested in adopting Smokey or any other rabbit, please let me know, I'd love to find our many rabbits a loving home.

What a blast! I had so much fun this year at Burning Man even though I didn't do all that I had planned. We camped at the Diva Den at 5:12 and Jungle, what a wonderful group of people. I thank them for their hospitality and friendship. They taught me a lot. Because of the happenings at BM and how I let myself go and do whatever I wanted, I have now vowed to take up something new...bellydancing. I love to swing my hips, dance and look sexy and the jingly skirts are so sexy. I've taken a step, let's see where it leads. Thanks everyone.

Got a funny email from my daughter the other day. We are huge Patriots fans, hailing orignally from Massachusetts, and now finding ourselves in Sacramento and Chicago. Well, she was discussing friends of hers and the various colleges they were considering attending. One of her friends is considering Purdue which is fairly close to Indianapolis, home of the Colts and arch rivals to our beloved Patriots. My daughter remarked that she would invite her friend to stay with her in Chicago because she could never go to Indianpolis...she might spontaneously combust and burst into flames. If you are a Pats fan you are probably ROTFLYAF, otherwise you probably have a puzzled look on your face and are saying what the F#$%. Go Pats!

My daughter and I heard about this on Nickelodean TV about 10-15 years ago and have been doing it ever since. Just a fun way to welcome in each month. Since she is in Chicago now, it has been fun dealing with the time difference.

It has been a very rough several days and quite frankly I don't know if I've ever felt so down. Lo and behold a random act of kindness I gave to another came back today to make me smile. While in Vegas we met a waitress who was originally from Boston. We started talking and she mentioned Marshmallow Fluff, it made me smile, I hadn't had Fluff in years. She said she actually had family from the Boston area ship it to her since we can' t get it out here. Then Pia starts a thread on Tribe about Marshmallow Fluff and in it someone posts a link to the company who makes Fluff. Feeling in a giving mood at the time I did a little reseach and wrote our waitress a letter, sending her the link to the Fluff website where you can order directly from them. It made me happy at the time because I knew she would appreciate it. Well, today in the mail comes a letter of thanks from our Vegas waitress. She was so thrilled and suprised that I took the time to find her and send her the Fluff link. She thanked me and made sure we knew that the next time we were in Vegas we better make sure and look her up. It made my day and made me smile. Random acts of kindness - you gotta love 'em!

I spent a good portion of yesterday and today scanning a good portion of my pictures into the computer. I've scanned close to 1500 pictures and still have several albums to go. The best part was looking at each and every picture as I put it in the scanner, remembering Christmases and birthdays gone by, family gatherings and vacations and, of course, all the first day of school pictures. It was a wonderful trip down memory lane and a great way to preserve your pictures forever.

My boss recently put me on part time hours (24 per week) because I am too much of an expense in his office. However, ever since that time he has tried to have his cake and eat it too, i.e. work every day for a few hours as opposed to working three full days with two days off so I can find supplemental income. Yesterday, knowing that I had today off because of his new part time schedule, he asked me if I would work today. Now, do I work because I could use the money or do I stand up for my rights and make him live with his dumb-ass decision to make me part time? YEAH ME! I stood up for myself and took the day off. Sorry, no cake for the man today, I'm taking it, along with the frosting AND the glass of milk!

The Prestige

Watched The Prestige this evening with Michael Cain. Great movie. At the beginning I found it frustrating keeping all the characters straight because the main characters looked alike, several scenes are done in flashback and also because much of it is set in the dark but it was still worth it. Kept me guessing until the end.

I was reading the list of books people want to throw when I came across so many that sounded familiar, not because I had read them but because they were required reading for my daughter while in high school. Funny part was she loved them, except 'Like Water for Chocolate.' One of her favorite books was 'Brave New World,' which popped up on several people's list of books to throw. Different strokes for different folks. I tend towards the classics and those long, descriptive novels where you can so easily picture every scene the author is writing about. Give me Michener over Grisham any day.

Today is my sister's 40th birthday. Gosh, she is getting old. Of course, just because I am 4 years older doesn't mean I am getting any older ... I think she is surpassing me because I haven't aged in years! Age is only a number and I choose to keep mine young at heart. Celebrate every birthday like it is your first!
