Musings & Mumblings

i'm going to facebook too. I held out for a long time but this weekend's mega downtime was the final straw. I was trying to promote a couple of events and I couldn't get on tribe for days. So now I'm living in a Facebook world. Tribe was fun and useful but, well, Facebook works. I'll definitely check in occasionally here on Tribe and probably still promote somewhat when I can get on it.

Yeehaw . . . thanks to everyone who made yesterday's Transported to the Russian River fun. I think the attached pic gives some idea of what went down: some river play and dancing on the sand to hold us over until Priceless. Extra thanks and bday wishes to Dr. Jesse and the Marin posse.

This Thursday we have Jocelyn from Get Freaky and Sidecar Tommy of Beats Antique laying down the tunes. Join us!

An unwitting passenger arriving at Japan's Narita airport has received 142g of cannabis after a customs test went awry, officials say. A customs officer hid a package of the banned substance in a side pocket of a randomly chosen suitcase in order to test airport security. Sniffer dogs failed to detect the cannabis and the officer could not remember which bag he had put it in. Anyone finding the package has been asked to contact customs officials.

Only 15 tickets left! TransportedSF bus to Nexus Hay Maze (events » nightlife) Saturday, November 10, 2007 - 10:30 PM 269 RSVPs So our friends in Nexus are putting on a crazy all night party in a Hay Maze south of Half Moon Bay. We figured people might want to go and might not want to worry about driving there and back. So we are transporting you down there on our veggie-oil powered buses for the fun. We sold out our first bus with barely any promotion so we've added a second bus! Buy your tickets ASAP, as of this posting there are only 15 tickets left.

Ticket price includes a discounted ticket to the maze. Presales to the maze are normally $25 but ride the TransportedSF bus to get em for $20. Our transportation fee is $20 so your total is $40. putting on the party:

NEXUS is very excited to report that THE MAZE PARTY shall be all that it it has been hyped up to be and more.

There are not enough letters in EPIC to describe the magnitude of sickness that is scheduled to ensue within the confines of this crazy ass maze.

Hold on to your hats and strap on your faces ladies and gentlemen because at this party 3 lefts don't necessarily make a right; lose yourself and find a friend or lose your friend and find yourself or just lose your frickin mind, or do whatever the hell you want to do, just come do it here cuz it's going to be really fun, especially because everyone knows it's going to be really fun, and that's half the fun right there. We'll take care of the other half.

a time travel (ad)venture

##the machine is reaching full power.##

the executives at false profit llc have been taking stock.

##critical speed achieved: 88mph.##

recent observations have caused us to ask where we came from, and
where we're going.

##roger. all systems go.##

but the past is hidden in faded memory; the future a matter of idle
speculation.

##wait... uh oh...##

the solution was obvious: go there. or rather, go then. so we put our
engineers on the case.

##i think we broke it!##

they built us a time machine.

##broke what?##

and it worked. or it will have worked. or... it's working?... well,
mostly. but a wire got crossed in there somewhen, and things are a bit
muddled.

##TIME##

but some things are clear:
we know where we came from. we'll find where we're going.
will you join us?

====

We invite you to shift your attention towards another time when things
were different. Was that ancient history or a future opportunity?
False Profit is working around the clock to create a world of
exploration from the age of ancient civilizations to future space
alien societies. Please come prepared and dust off your finest costume
from any point in time, past or future, for this special celebration.
We're bringing you more than a time traveling NYE party with 2 rooms
of music in an underground warehouse -- we're traveling back to a time
when it was all about the music, when it was all about the PLUR, by
creating opportunity to connect with others through various activities
and spaces such as the Trans-temporal Saloon and Sensorium serving up
cocktails from other dimensions AND THEN SOME... This will be one for
the, uh...books.

To celebrate a year gone by, we plan to create a Photo Archive where
you can post and share your favorite moments from 2007. By the end of
the night there will be a year’s worth of community memories for
everyone to see. Please bring photos to add to the record.

This year we have opened up our invitations to everyone, however this
will still be an intimate community event with only 350 presale
tickets, none being sold at the door. Doors will be closed between
midnight and 1am, so please do not arrive during this time. There will
also be no ins-and-outs, so please bring what you need for the night.
Information on info line phone number and San Francisco warehouse
location available only to those who purchase tickets.

PLUR: peace. love. unity. respect. a set of values popularized by
early 1990s rave culture. jaded folks out there, don't let this word
freak you out. i know right now you're picturing pacifier sucking,
dust mask wearing candy ravers rolling their faces off-- but hold
up!-- we are taking back the PLUR! let's transcend division and
judgement and create a party environment with the openness and love
that we all are capable of. we want to see smiles on the dance floor
and conversations with strangers! let's see what we can do to shift
our perspectives, break down barriers, connect, and rebuild community
that is rooted in PLUR-arrific values. "cheesy" you say? yeah, we're
all up in that fromage. it's a risk, we know...but we're willing to
take it.
Updated: DJ added to Take the TransportedSF bus to Body Worlds in San Jose (events » other) Sunday, January 20, 2008 - 2:30 PM 281 RSVPs UPDATED:

We've just confirmed that Kemek the Dope Computer will be providing us music from his vast collection on the way down and back. Kemek is a veteran producer and DJ and we're glad to have him provide music for the ride. There are still plenty of tickets available. I hope you can join us!

ORIGINAL POST:

It's a New Year and that means it's time to look at the insides of humans! (We do things a little differently here at Transported). What am I talking about? Body Worlds in San Jose. It's an exhibit of plastinated human bodies. "More than 200 authentic human specimens offer visitors profound insights into the form and function of the human body, wellness and disease, and the mysterious world of the brain." How could you resist? For more info: www.thetech.org/bodyworld/ . The exhibit closes on Jan. 26th so this is a great chance to have a good time getting to and from the event and learn something about the human body!

$40 (+ $1.99 ticket fee) gets you transportation from SF to San Jose plus discounted admission to the show. We meet for check-in at Frjtz Valencia (For those not in the know Frjtz is a great spot for brunch and they have the best fries in town -- come early and have a meal), 590 Valencia Street near 17th street, SF at 2pm and the bus leaves at 2:30pm. We will drop you off at 7:30pm at the same place. Buy tickets here: www2.brownpapertickets.com/event/26131 . DO NOT buy a separate ticket for the show, your purchase of a Transported ticket at Brown Paper Tickets includes discounted admission to the Body Worlds show.

In other news, we've started a Tribe. You can add yourself here: tribes.tribe.net/transportedsf . Please share photos, stories, suggestions, etc. And if you're uploading images to Flickr, please tag them TransportedSF.

You can check out our site at www.transportedsf.com and if you have any further questions email me: info at transportedsf dot com And if you'd like to rent out the bus for any private events it's surprisingly affordable. Please contact Peter directly through his web site at www.teacherwiththebus.com

7-midnight
@ Mighty (Utah & 15th, San Francisco)
Two days after we party at Mighty, Texas and Ohio will be voting in a crucial primary that will help decide the fate of this election.

It's a historic time. It's a time when nearly one million people have already dug into their pockets to invest in their future -- to invest in a candidate who does not accept money from political action committees or lobbyists. A candidate who inspires hope. Let's help the campaign reach the milestone of one million donors by March 4th. The time is now.

Come out on Sunday night, March 2nd, as we "march forth" to "March 4th." One million strong.

Event Details:

Music:
- Sinister Dexter, a 12-piece funk extravaganza
- Alxndr
- Goyo

Speakers:
- Ayelet Waldman (Author of "Daughter's Keeper" and "Love and Other Impossible Pursuits" - wife of Michael Chabon - classmate of Barack's at Harvard Law School)
- Andrew Sean Greer (author of national bestseller "The Confessions of Max Tivoli" and "The Path of Minor Planets").

Ticket donation is a minimum of $25/person, but we encourage you to give as much as you're able to (federal limit is $2,300). 100% of your donation will go to the Obama campaign. Give what you feel is the right investment in the future of our country. And, even if you can't come, feel free to make a gift to the campaign anyway!

Either you can join us at 12:30pm at 555 De Haro St (Potrero Hill - ample parking) or at 1pm at Dolores Park (Dolores between 18th & 19th - look for the person with the tweedledum propeller hat to check-in). Keep in mind that these times are when the bus leaves this spot. You should check-in and be present at least 15 minutes before blast off.

Weather.com is predicting afundant bunshine (you should see the icon they have for that one) for this Sunday, it should be beautiful!

We will be leaving at the end of the party: 7pm, which should put us back in the city by 8pm.

Tickets are $15 + $1.36 ticketing fee. Buy them here:

c) deliver good music

In return, we ask you to bring things to share: food, games, sports equipment, drinks, whatever you feel your fellow riders would enjoy.

Get Transported to Yuri's Night! (events » nightlife) Saturday, April 12, 2008 - 2:00 PM 290 RSVPs Breaking News: We're added a transportation only option for those of you that may have bought Yuri's Night tickets before you heard about our combo deal.

Yuri's Night is next weekend and we still have plenty of tickets left. Transported will be running shuttles from Hayes Valley in San Francisco to Yuri's Night at NASA Ames Research Center. If you don't know yet Yuri's Night is a massive celebration of space, science, art, music, and technology in a giant hangar down in Mountain View! Check out their site for full details.

yurisnightbayarea.net/

You can buy a Transported ticket only or a combo Transported/Yuri's Night ticket. We have two times that you can leave San Francisco for Ames.

Early Shuttle:
SF: 2pm > Ames: 3pm
Ames: 11pm > SF: Midnight

OR

Late Shuttle:
SF: 4:30pm > Ames: 5:30pm
Ames: 1:30am > SF: 2:30am

Just to be very clear: you can leave San Francisco at 2pm (arriving at Ames at 3pm) and return to SF at Midnight (leaving Ames at 11pm). Or you can leave San Francisco at 4:30pm (arriving at Ames at 5:30pm) and return to San Francisco at 2:30AM (leaving Ames at 1:30AM). Please note that if you take the 2pm bus down you must take the 11pm bus back. Similarly, if you take the 4:30pm bus down you must take the 1:30AM bus back. Please examine the Yuri's Night site closely before deciding which bus to buy tickets for. There are great acts scheduled throughout the day. You can see their schedule here:

www.yurisnightbayarea.net/2008/ssa/php

Special notice should be paid to these words lifted from the Yuri's Night site: "NASA Ames Research Center is a federal facility. Controlled drugs and weapons are prohibited. If you are caught with a prohibited item you will be subject to applicable federal laws and statutes rather than their California counterparts. These level of enforcement will be more than what you would experience in your own communities. As at many events held throughout the U.S., we will be searching to ensure prohibited drugs and weapons do not enter the Center." Transported is committed to upholding these standards and we ask for your cooperation in doing so.

Transported tickets which include entry into the event are $55. Transported Tickets that do not include a Yuri's Night ticket will run you $25. PLEASE BE SURE TO BUY THE CORRECT TICKET.

You can be directed towards both options on our site here:

transportedsf.com/

Note that whatever shuttle you buy tickets for you need to arrive half an hour before the shuttle leaves to claim your ticket. If you are not there by 10 minutes before the shuttle departure time you may forfeit your ticket. Our shuttles will be departing promptly, don't be late.

The pick up spot for both shuttles will be the not even open to the public yet Frjtz in Hayes Valley at its new location of 581 Hayes Street. Note that this is NOT Frjtz on Valencia street in the Mission but a new one. This restaurant will not be officially open to the public yet but you'll be getting a sneak peak. It is unclear at this time whether or not they will be ready to serve food.

Now that we've got all the details out of the way we hope you can join us for a fun ride to an incredible event!
