about me
I'm a mom, belly dancer, stained glass artist and all around swell gal. I like long walks on the beach, bubble baths, badgers and anything else that starts with the letter "B". I love to cook and spend some time each summer camping. I am an avid reader and can't live without good music and my drums. I am happily driven to create.

Annette just informed me it's done! How about posting it on You Tube so us outatowners can see it without having to wait to get a physical copy?

Gawd...Moms are the worst sometimes! Don't let her push her issues on you. I'm still working hard on all the body issues mom left me with.

Let me start out by saying how wonderful it is to have creative friends. I never imagined I would end up with custom designed and artisan-cast wedding rings, but that's what just happened.
My friend Barb drove here from Philly this weekend to create wedding bands for Charles and I. She is an amazing jeweler, and a long-time friend (you may remember that I went to Philly last year to perform her wedding). We had a great time, took her and her daughter Wendy out for Indian food (yum!) and...

So on Saturday, Charles and I went to Little India in NJ to shop for wedding clothes. We had a blast, so much so that we are planning on making it a destination every time we go to visit my family.
I found a beautiful silk sari with lovely embroidery and beadwork. I had to have the blouse and petticoat tailored, so across the street we went with our lovely salesgirl, sari in hand. She led up up a dingy stairwell, and into a very small not-to-nice apartment. In the back room, sitting on...

It's that time of year again! Spring is here and that means a trip to New Jersey to visit my family. And to meet at my mother-in-laws house on Good Friday to make the Easter Bread.
Now, we don't make it with colored eggs (it gets the bread too messy) and my eggs usually don't crack, but the picture shows loafs in the style we bake. We've had this tradition in my late husband's family for almost 20 years. My then FUTURE mother-in-law Vicky invited me over to bake the bread for the first...

So the wedding planning has finally started to really move forward. The first wedding will be in State College for our friends out here and our families. I've been back and forth about themes...do I really care if there's a theme at all? I am a famous micro-manager, so I didn't want to get bogged down in a bunch of little details. After much thought, I decided that a "theme" was a good idea as it gave me some sort of focus.
So I'm back to the Hindu-flavored theme. And I've been look...

Lately, I've been feeling a little roadblocked from the things I had planned. Most of them are financial roadblocks- no money, no tickee. What can you do?
Charles and I were planning a wedding in NJ in April, but at this point we have officially written it off. It's getting too close, and too many things are still undone due to severe financial constraints. We were always aware this might be a possible outcome, but I've held fast to believing it would all work out to make it happen. I...

... and to the below "testimonial" that I wrote for you, I have to add the following: you one one of the single most beautiful, genuine, and REAL human beings I have ever been blessed to meet. I honestly don't know how you do it, Ro, but your attitude, comforting wisdom, and honest advice, have turned me around more than once. You know, it may seem odd, but you remind me a bit of my Mom. You and her would have gotten a long beautifully. You have the same calm, reassuring, yet strong and realistic nature she had. I see that in you, and I think of all the times my Mom said things to me, about what seemed like impossible situations and people, that seemed hopeless... and how you seem to possess the exact same ability she had, to find light and hope in almost everything.
Knowing you, has made me a better person -- having you a part of my life has made it a more "hopeful" place.

"A friend is a loved one who awakens your life in order to free the wild possibilities within you." ~ Anam Cara: A Book of Celtic Wisdom -- Ro... though we have this annoying thing called DISTANCE, that keeps us from hanging out and keeping each other company, I am comforted in knowing that no matter how far away you are, you are the kind of friend, who is *here* in my life, in all kinds of ways, at all times.
Namaste...

Rowan is one of the most amazing people I know. She's a fabulous artist and dancer. Screw Martha Stewart, Rowan is the hostess with the mostest. She is an incredibly beautiful woman who I am proud to have as both a friend and an inspiration.

The first time I saw Rowan was at the Celebrate Erie Art Festival, in full tribal garb, with her kick ass posse Temple of Bast. Since I had just moved here and looked desparately (with no luck) for any tribal bellydancers, I just about begged her to be friends with me.
OK, I did beg her. LOL
It was also the first time I had seen her dance, and she truly has a domineering stage presence and a wicked goddess grace. Her wacky sense of humor and cool mama attitude makes her a blast to be around. I'm honored to have met her, and I am so thrilled to have met someone else in our community that shares in my enthusiastic obsession of tribal style bellydance. Rowan totally raqs.
