Projectionist diary

another week, another set of movies, some worse then others. Up this week: Star Wars Clone Wars and Mirrors

lets start w/ clone wars
I wasnt sure what to expect from animated star wars, but it was def reminiscent of the previous clone wars animation. Overall i foound the quality of script and pacing to be quite inadequate and inconsistent. Most of the fight scenes were either to drawn out, or not nearly enough detailed. I also found the addition of a new jedi to be quite unneeded and somewhat distracting, i think more jedi, or no new jedi would have been a more interesting possibility. For a movie entitled Star Wars Clone Wars, it seemed to revolve way to much around the Hutt clans, kinda odd i thought. In the end though i found it to be decent, and it is new star wars, and almost by not being that as major of the story does almost open a door for more to be made, if thats good or not is for you to decide.

Mirrors
ok so its a movie about some evil mirrors ... its not quite as straightforwards as that, but its not far off. The story is bad, and the rate at which it unfolds is weak. It takes its time getting setup, but by the end it feels really bad, everything is happening exactly as it needs to fit together an incredibly unlikely series of scenarios, and the flashbacks near the end are just kind of weird and out of place, unless Kiefer is suddenly manifesting psychic visualization powers, although with the overall lameness of the movie thats probably what their explanation would be. They start with a basic story and a good setting, a burned out old department store, but continue it out farther and farther. Personally I think sticking to just the dept store would have offered alot more possibility for a scary movie, and i felt the ending was totally lame, but at the same time, if you go into a horror movie expecting to get any questions answered, then you are asking way more then most horror movies seem to be able to offer, but the unknown generally does have a bit more to fear.
whatever

Projectionists Log: Batman Edition

maybe i should have called this the Heath Ledger edition, cause he sure stole the show. I havnt seen anyone capture as much sadistic and generally psychotic behavior as he did by bringing the script to life ... he easily outshined the rest of the cast, and thats a pretty decent list ... at every opportunity he was doing the small things that really add up .... the next person who tries to fill that role has some very bad ass shoes to try and fill, i certainly dont envy them .... bottom line, Heath Ledger's role singlehandedly made this movie so much better then it might of been without him, but it is arguably one of his best performances ... so crazy, so maniacal, so perfect

so yeah this is a long movie, and by the end its pacing has slowed down a bit, but it is still packed with action, some more plausible then others ... and a new slew of the requisite batgadgets , some more plausible then others, im still not a fan of the direction they took with the whole batmobile, but maybe thats just me

overall i would definitely recommend seeing Batman Dark Knight

Kaya Returns

yay ... at 1.30pm someone spotted kaya and thanks to our fliers called us .... i wasnt to hopeful after 36 hrs outside in the rain since she is such a scaredy cat ... and the fact that there are about 15 roaming cats in the neighborhood, but that doesnt matter now, our fat little cat is home safe!

Kaya come home

some time around 8.30 am yesterday morning, Kaya fell through our second story window's screen, and landed in the backyard ... I didnt find out she had fallen through the window until 4.30 pm as i was preparing to go to work ... promptly at 5.30 it began to rain, and it hasnt really stopped since then ... now our little scaredy cat is lost, somewhere outside, cold, wet, hungry, possibly injured, and undoubtedly terrified ... and we have no idea how to find her now .... Kaya please come home

Projectionist journal

ok so this weeks movie is indiana jones: kingdom of the crystal skull
boy did this movie suprise me, i was expecting something much different from indiana jones ... they previously seemed to be more tied to mythical situations and magical powers, but this one goes a very different direction
I was definitely disappointed with the character development they did, in one scene early on,the evil kgb lady (Blanchett) is set up as a psychic, but they never really do anything with the point
and dont even get me started on the refrigerator

so yeah if you are a big indiana jones fan go ahead and see it, its probably the last time harrison ford will put on that hat, but personally i was very disappointed and very unsatisfied with the movie
4/10

Projectionists diary pt.1

i decided it was time to contribute more today, but couldnt decide what to write about ... so i decided to go with the one thing i know, and thats whats coming out at the movies this week

so i just finished screening Speed Racer ... and wow
i never watched it when i was a kid, but it wasnt on any of our local tv stations, so i just never connected w/ it .... so going in to the movie i didnt have a whole lot of preconceptions, just what i skimmed over on wiki ... but thats ok, cause the main gimmick of the film is its colors .... this movie is so dynamically colorful it made my brain hurt! the actions is pretty constant, and the car races are super fast and explosive ... the editors went to town on this flick, the number of cuts and speed of them are crazy ... its almost like they werent allowed to stay with one shot for more then two seconds ... at first its almost disorienting, but gets better as it goes.... the combo of fast cuts, high speed actions, and intense colors add up for one visually entrancing movie
plus there is chim-chim

rating: B
for a PG movie its not bad
and um if you munch shrooms before watching this, yeah im pretty sure it will blow your mind
just dont do it in my theater please lmao

Hombre arana??

the other day i was sitting at my computer flipping through youtube ... as usually i browse the most recent uploads, as the weirdest stuff can show up, and sometimes its not there long before it gets flagged and removed ... and boy did i get a full dose of it with both barrels

i was on page 14 of 15, when i saw something that stopped me in place

the name said something to the effect of

spiderman3: part 18

hmm i thought ... part 18? that means alot of parts, which means, omg, someone just posted spiderman3 .... which is umm ... still in the theaters

i was totally suprised, but was expecting most of it to be taken down already, cause ... well yeah duh

so i went to the guys acct, and found not just 18 parts but 20 ... he was in the middle of uploading the thing as i stumbled across it ... so immediately i started opening all the parts in different tabs ... thats the catch about youtube, if its still available when you see it you can always open it in another tab, and even when they pull it, you still have your temp copy

so i get all 26 parts opened, and start watching them, when i get my biggest suprise yet ... it goes through all the opening credits, but when the title spider-man3 comes up... thats not what it says, and then i realize im in for an interesting viewing ... the title read in the same fonts giant letters

Hombre araƱa 3

yep

i had found a copy of a bootleg dubbed mexican spider-man3

the irony was ... i dont feel like i lost anything without getting any of the dialogue lmao ... and some of the effects were kinda cool ... i though most of venom was decently done ... although he sounded kinda odd ... lol for whatever a mexican dub over of venom is worth ha ha ha ha

oh and it was 100% bootleg too, there were a few times you could even hear the little kids laughing it was hilarious

so my review of:

Hombre Arana 3
neat effects as usual, but to much stuff in the story ... 3 villans? cmon guys thats just to many ... even though one is like a half ass pointless one(goblin)

spider-man fights sandman, and a newly created venom
spider-man has had his powers a long time ... yet sandman and venom have theirs for a day, and a minute or so respectively, yet are totally able to maximize them, and beat the crap out of a superhero ... of course thats just a geek pov thing, but there it is

that aside, most of the situations are kinda dopey, and paired with the established spider-man lore, they went kinda off on this one ... the char of gwen stacy is used ... strangely, at least in relation to SM and MJ .. its a melding of like SM circa 1992 with SM of 97(dates for conceptual use only) ... yeah its the same story, but fusing two timelines just makes things kinda weird ..... althooooooough ... we are talking about the marvel guys here ... and they have built their empire on a huge mess of f'd up timelines lmao ... so im sure they have plenty of retcon solutions to make it fit in ... maybe <sigh> another SM clone who thinks he really is SM... ha ha ha ha ha ha ha it would only be the 5th LMAO

moral of the story ... dont look at wikipedia, its dangerous and causes you to learn things you didnt need to know, like that spider-man has had several clones!

Hombre Arana 3: 4 stars : not having to understand dialogue may have make the movie better, and easier to watch!

webcomics

www.xkcd.com/c27.html

ok so i love webcomics ... everything about the format i like ... its one of the few realms of artistic expression that can be done with absolutely no oversight, and with no concern to anything ... if you want to write a comic about shapechanging wizard robots go for it ... or a love story about a mexican ninja and a russian pirate, feel free ... any realm is free to explore ... lol

that being said one of my favorite webcomics is xkcd: a webcomic of romance, sarcasm, math and language

lol some combination ... especially when rolled all in with stick figure art ...

its prob not for everyone, but thats what the internet is all about ... crazy and random, yet something for everyone!
