about me
I am usually the comic relief, a huge klutz, and the person most people come to with their problems. I like learning new things, exploring new places, and finding the spiritual center of everything. I returned to belly dance in August of '08 after a very long absence (over ten years) and it's easily the best decision I've made.

Re: i think i need some encouragement/advice/something! (in The Indigo Belly Dance) My first solo was 8 months into classes. It was last minute for a showcase our studio was doing. Someone had to back out and there were spots that needed filling. The studio owner called me the night before to ask if I'd like to do a solo. I w... read more

New Orleans Burlesque Festival (in Trybe Habibi Bizarre) Not sure if anyone is interested--I was going to try to make the first ever NO BF this year but plans fell through. But they have announced the new 2010 dates, in case you're interested--September 17 - 19, 2010.

They have all sorts of shows, w... read more

Re: what do you guys love about miss Rachel? (in Rachel Brice) I think there are two things:

First is her obvious passion for what she does--her energy, her presence, the way she dances so fluidly and can find every little nuance in the music and have *something* moving. Her enthusiasm is boundless.

My Blog

Now that I have some coherence (well, maybe not), I'll get into the last two days of Mecca.

Tuesday we started out with Cera Byer. The workshop centered around choreography, which Cera is pretty much the mack-mama in. But first, we had some movement, which after sitting on the floor all day Monday with more writing than moving, was VERY welcomed. We did some hip-hop fused belly dance movement--totally worked up a good sweat. It was so much fun. Then Cera got into stage craft, choreog... read more

We have two days of workshops left and Fat Chance Belly Dance's Hafla on Wednesday, so I may not have a chance to update before I leave for home. I wanted to keep everyone up on everything.

I managed to sleep through until our 7am wakeup call this morning. The bunk bed is easier to climb into and out of than it was at the beginning of my stay. My hips and ankles are sore but it's a good sore.

I was too tired to update last night. The workshops weren't that taxing, I just couldn't pr... read more

Early morning again (my bladder seems to like 6 am).

Yesterday was Day 3 and our workshop centered around Musicality. David Satori of Beats Antique (as well as Zoe), Peter Jacques of Brass Menazeri, and a fabulous percussionist, Evan....I don't have his CD handy so I can't recall his last night GAH...anyway, they led the workshop.

I. Was. In. My. Element. As a former practicing musician, I felt very in-tuned to what they were saying. I had been looking forward to this workshop proba... read more

It's Sunday Morning. Morgan and I got in around midnight or a little after last night after the Mecca Revue. I don't think I dropped off until 1 am. At 6 am I was wide awake. So here I sit in the internet cafe area of the hostel.

Yesterday was Day 2 of workshops. I was sore from Thursday and Friday. But my energy was incredibly high. I was so excited about the day because of two things--the first workshop with Deb Rubin was all about making it slow and slinky (which I personally lov... read more

It seems like I haven't had a chance to really update or let everyone know what is going on with the trip. Since my roomie, Morgan, and I decided to stay in tonight to rest up for tomorrow's workshop onslaught, I thought I'd catch everyone up.

The flights were good. A little turbulence going into Houston and outside of Houston, but nothing major. I dozed a bit on the Houston-San Francisco flight, but mostly I was just calm. I thought I'd be giddy excited but I felt a little more zen abo... read more
