Re: Drastic Times Demand Drastic Measures.

well I'm glad I didn't end up moderating this tribe this month. I get back from 2 weeks away from my computer & find I can't even read all the way through one thread, much less all of 'em. The vague outline I get is people insulting each other, & ...

Re: Not guilty

I definitely missed seeing M4 perform at the fair this year, but it was nice to see a few of you around & about the place anyway. The first time I ever saw you perform was at main stage two years ago, so I know a main stage gig is possible. Finger...

well, wait a second... I just want to remind everyone that "one person, one vote" does not exist for presidential races in America due to the Electoral College. The EC is an anti-democratic institution, but the one upside of it is that it enables ...

During the the last 2 months a lot of my time & attention has gone towards helping to launch a new drum & dance group presenting traditional rhythms of Guinea, West Africa. The group is led by Karim Koumbassa (moved to Seattle from Guinea 3 years ago) & his wife, Sarah Lee Parker-Koumbassa, a local dance teacher I work with regularly, & includes many of the people who traveled to Guinea with them over the winter to study dance & drumming. Using material people le... read more

1) Ever tried to imagine the sheer scale of American consumerism & waste? I can't really wrap my head around it. But these images help. And it's art! www.chrisjordan.com/current_set2.php For more about this Seattle artist in his own words, check out this video clip from Bill Moyers: www.pbs.org/moyers/journ...7/watch3.html 2) This is just sheer fun, in the category of... read more
I invite you to watch this short video & ask yourself: Given these facts, how do we achieve both ecological sustainability & social justice in our world? That's the big question for the 21st century, IMO. Let's give thanks for what we have & think of ways to share it with those who have less (as well as thinking about how to, um, "liberate" some of the wealth from those who have way too much...) ;)

Seattle recently lost a visionary--the rare sort who actually manifested many of his visions. Jeff Fairhall, a successful entrepreneur in "green business" before the term became popular, died in early September of brain cancer. He was 49.

On Thursday, the U.S. Senate overwhelmingly passed (72-25) a GOP-introduced resolution condemning an ad by MoveOn.org that challenged the accuracy of General Petraeus’ upbeat appraisal of US military progress in Iraq. MoveOn’s sin? Suggesting that a US military general could be betraying the public interest by inaccurately justifying a continued presence of US troops in Iraq, contrary to the desires of the American public. Have they no sense of decency and decorum? About half of Senate Democr...
