Bedouin Star Classes Have Moved

<div>Well, sort of...

All Bedouin Star Classes (beginner, folkloric, and troupe classes) will be taught at Bellevue University as of June 6, 2007. The next session of classes begin on Wednesday, June 6 at 6pm. Future workshops and drum circles may be held at the church, the previous class location, but classes will no longer regularly take place there.

Reasons for the move you ask? Unexpected raised rent and ridiculous gas prices are the main reasons. I really enjoyed the space, though moving furniture to have class was a bit of a hassle.

That's it for now. That's what's new with us. Maybe we'll see you in class at Bellevue sometime soon. Be sure to visit www.bedouinstar.com for the class listings and whatnot. If interested in enrolling, you can send a pre-registration e-mail OR just show up on the first day of class...with money of course =)

300 sets of solid abs

<div>Got 3 words for ya: sweat, muscle, yum...

First and foremost, I am so tired of hearing complaints of the historical accuracy of the film. It's a MOVIE based on a GRAPHIC NOVEL that is loosely based on an actual event. Movies are menat to entertain, especially one featuring 300 men whose uniforms consist of a cape, a speedo, sandals, oh and of course spear, shield, and sword.

As a graphics major, I am the worse person to go to a movie with. During the most involved CGI scene, my eyes will find the ONE flaw in green screening or a shadow the editors neglected to delete and blurt it out, totally forgetting that I'm sitting in a theatre full of people - though I have gotten better about whispering these things, only bothering the people that are sitting next to me.

Fortunately, I only saw a few scenes in 300 that disturbed my graphical mind enough to point them out. Regardless, I LOVED this movie - have seen it twice so far. Yes, it was violent, but it's a war movie - when did war become non-violent? The movie's bloodiest scenes were stylized, much different than Pan's Labyrinth (very realistic violence).

If you do go see 300, keep in mind that it is a movie, not an accurate documentary of a historical event. Watch the history channel if you want more historical accuracy. Otherwise, enjoy the film, the snacks you smuggled into the theatre in your purse, the cell phones ringing mid-movie, and of course the 300 sets of solid abs.</div>

A bit of history about bare midriffs vs covered torso

<div>When I announced that bare midriffs (and other forms of tiny clothing) were prohibited in all of my classes, I received several messages from angry women who have never taken any of my classes and would probably never take any of my classes. None of my students were bothered by it. Matter of fact, after that announcement was made, class registration and attendance increased and many students have said they feel more comfortable with the "no bare midriff" rule in place.

I didn't pull the idea of the covered torso and my reasons for it out of the sky . Here is a bit of "bare torso" history from the Master Himself, Tarik Sultan.

    </a>
<div>Well, I like to run my mouth so perhaps I'll make use of this blog thing.

This was the first year I was able to go and I am very glad that I did. I was only able to take 2 workshops (both John Compton workshops) which were amazing. He explained so much in detail. In addidtion, he was a genuine fellow who chatted with everyone. I purely enjoyed his workshops and left with new knowledge that can be applied to future works.

I also heard from some of the other participants who attended different workshops that the Bollywood class was a blast and the drumming classes were great, too. There were so many women there that I didn't get to talk with everyone but ALL appeared to enjoy the workshops they attended.

So, the evening show scheduled to begin at 7:30pm started at 7:30PM! The first sign that it was going to be a good one. The drummers, Baladi Smash, were absolutely powerful and engaging. Then enters the first group, Benu Dance Company and they danced to teh live drumming. Ok, I have seen Benu dance before (saw them dance quite a bit when they were called In Your Dreams) but THIS performance was THE BEST! It was dynamic and powerful and just all around a DAMN GOOD performance. Very, very impressive.

The final performance of the evening was none other than the master himself, John Compton. If you have only seen him dance on DVDs and video, it is nothing compared to seeing him live on a stage before you. Simply amazing. It was a true honor to meet him and to see him dance (and get a picture with him too =) Thank you, John!

Michelle, Barb, and the ladies of Benu invested alot of time, money, and love into making this event happen and I am so glad that they did. It was fabulous. Thank you Benu Dance Company! Can't wait to see what you've got planned for Tribal Dreams 2007!!!</div>
