Hawk Symbolism

   Mon, October 29, 2007 - 3:56 PM
Part of the Role for the two-legged beside whom Red Tailed Hawk flies is that of Guardian of the Earth Mother. These are individuals who will possess an astute awareness of the concept of the interconnectedness of all things, and will have an inner reverence for all life.

These are the souls that are involved in making the world a better place, whether locally or globally. They will be protectors of the Earth Mother and tread softly upon her, encouraging and educating ~Others~ to do the same.

Often, they are either found initiating or actively involved in environmental causes, where their keen perception and insight will serve their chosen ~cause~ well. Yet it is their day to day existence and fundamental philosophy/foundation of action and belief, that distinguishes these individuals as true champions of Mother Earth as they seek to live in harmony with the ~Ina Maka~ and all that She births, provides, nurtures and sustains.

I decided to look up the symbolism of the red tailed hawk after about two months of coming across them while biking. I've seen them about ten times now, one of which had torn a rabbit in half and was sitting in our front yard. At that point I felt it was more than pure coincidence and had to figure out what it meant...so there it is.

Just updating this post with a little more hawk symbolism after writing "Complacency" earlier today.

The red tail of the hawk only appears when the bird reaches maturity. When looking to the human beside whom Red Hawk flies, this is quite significant, for it indicates that the Red Feathers are not easily given, and must instead be earned over time. Hence, the symbolism of the Red Tail Feathers emerging only with age and experience.
For the two-legged with this Animal Totem, this indicates the need to approach spiritual awakening in a gradual, careful and conscious manner.
Yet once this fundamental energy unfurls as the Red Tail Feathers emerge, the beauty and depth of Spirit that shines brilliantly forth, will be both inspiration and guidance for Others who may be just beginning, or in the process of, their own awakening.
Be ever alert for a red tail flying near, for the Red Tailed Hawk will soar beside the Two-Legged whose own gift of vision is exceptionally acute.
To accept this Totem, is to be knighted as a Guardian and Protector of the Earth Mother and all her Children. These are individuals who will possess an astute awareness of the interconnectedness of all things, and will have an inner reverence for all life.
These are the souls that are involved in making the world a better place. They will be protectors of the Earth,
encouraging and educating Others to do the same.

Hawk sightings
Hi there,

I know from my ancestry that I am part Iroquis Northern New York / Canadain region, and have been seeing hawks in very close proximity lately. I thought at first it was just a coincidence, but after several encounters ocer the past weeks realized there was something greater I needed to investigate.

I find that I have dreams, or in mid-day talking in a language unknown to me and foreign but clearly with command of its content. I also find an inner erge to break out chanting as if some inner voice is screaming within me.

Can someone help me to identify with this?

My Experience of RedHawk
It was Dec. 23, 1988~~~ Earlier, in September, I bought a brand new Honda Civic CRX, a cute little white car that got incredibly great mileage. Anyhoo, I was working as a courier at the time (thus the high mileage hatch-back) and I was driving through a high-end suburb.

It was very cold, about 2-2:30 in the afternoon. The tree lined road snakes through the area and I was southbound, with sun placed toward the south-southwest. It was two days after the Winter Solstice so it was already getting low in the sky. Some cumulous clouds made shade but the air was really crisp and crystal clear. Snow may have been on the ground, but it's one detail of which I'm not completely sure.

There were absolutely no other cars, ahead of or behind me. It was a way more quiet of neighborhood back then than it is now, all over-crowded and built up.

I wasn't going too fast, maybe 35-40 mph. Suddenly, from behind, on my right, a huge bird swooped down, and flew right over the hood...literally! If there were no windshield, I could have reached out and tapped it on the tail! I was kind of in shock and didn't even realize the species...As I took my foot off the accelerator to slow, I leaned forward, addressed the great avian and asked aloud, "Are you an owl????" No sooner had the words come out of my mouth when this beautiful flying creature turned its head and looked at me with its left eye as if to snip, "Do I look like an owl???" It was a raptor alright, no way to mistake the head of a RedTail Hawk!

This experience seemed to last a long time but I'm sure it was only 20 or 30 seconds, if that. Just as suddenly, she swooped again, upward to the left, ahead a little bit and alighted in a tree. Of course, during this whole thing I had really slowed down. As I drove by at a crawl we watched each other...the road curved again and she disappeared behind me. Whenever I'm in that area, I still can find the bit of road where this occurred.

I had never sought out, or even read about, this kind of thing...never entered my mind...this just came out of the blue. Needless to say, I did seek out information afterward to figure it out. Call it an 'epiphany'.(from Gk. epiphaneia "manifestation, striking appearance" )
1. a divine manifestation
Which I definitely believe she was and still is...

I figured this was a good omen, but not exactly what kind of good omen. Birds are messengers from the spirit world. I do know it was comparable to a psychedelic experience and moved me along a new spiritual path. I read a lot about Native American spirituality. Eventually, I went to see the now deceased white bison calf 'Miracle' in Wisconsin, she also turned and looked at me when I addressed her...that's another story for another time.

In any event, RedTail hawks have been showing themselves to me regularly, sometimes in pairs or like one time, there was a bunch of them--I think there were 6 in all circling over the same area! This was in a busy shopping mall neighborhood in the suburbs. Also I have seen them all over the place as I travelled across country west to New Mexico and east to Pennsylvania; wherever I ride my horse and as said before, just driving down the road, in the city, suburbs, out in the country; you name it they are ALWAYS there. I mean, this happens ALL the time...for the past 19 years! The unbelievable synchronous connection I have with this raptor species, still blows me away!

The explanation here of the meaning of this appearance has touched me deeply...a friend sent me the link...and this original post was made the day after my birthday...more sycnhronicity, I guess. ;D

P.S. Love the picture.

Thanks Red and Charlie
Hi, just found this page while googling 'Symbolism of Red Feathers'. I had a rather deep dream last night that I was riding in a van with a
small group of women, being driven by Shirley MacLaine, going to Louisiana! We had to have boots in case of flooding on the roads.
Along the way I saw a beautiful bunch of red feathers (bright red) sticking out of a container, way below us on the ground. I also heard the
word 'sweat'. The message under Hawk Symbolism does fit me- I feel I am one who has much to share with the world, a unique and clear
vision of the truth. But somehow I'm needing to go through a process of unloading old baggage holding me back from coming out of my
'shell', and I think Shirley was helping me in the dream. Thanks to Red and Charlie for your interesting comments here. Any thoughts on
my dream?

Very strange...
Last night, I had a Red Tail Hawk fly directly into my window. It made the loudest thud- so I went outside to check on it. I quickly got my father, he grabbed a large stick-getting the bird to perch on it- he finally set it to rest on a limb. All night I had checked on the bird, wanting to be absolutely sure he was not injured and could set off at sunset on his own, I couldn't sleep. Walking outside at dawn he woke up and watched me as I walked to the branch he was on. I kept asking him if he was ok, I walked right up to him about a foot away... and thought his feathers were really ruffled beneath the right wing. He just kept watching me, very serious bird, but insanely calm. I kept talking to him as I raised my hand to his chest, and he allowed me to flex his wings, and feel around the spot on his chest and he seemed healthy. I walked away and let him go back to sleep only to return once the sun had risen completely. He let me walk up to him, then flew off the branch and onto our basketball goal where he sat watching me, and flew off like a champ. Red Tail Hawks are extremely intelligent and I never would have thought I could examine him. They really are incredible birds.

Transitions 12-02-08
Hello Everyone!
I am currently going through a transition in my life. Graduating from college this month and my child is not chemically balanced right now. I am really looking forward to the next part of my life but I am also a little ... alot anxious.
I know there is a hawk in the area along the creek by our apt. and I love seeing it. Today when I went to pick my daughter up from school I saw a hawk as it flew right next to my truck and followed along side me for some distance and then crossed behind me still very close to my truck. I was driving slow and I was able to see it very clearly. How beautiful it was in flight, it was absolutely amazing. I am excited that others have had experiences with the hawk.
I am somewhat more at ease about my future after reading the sybolism associated the hawk on this site. Thank you for posting here it makes a difference to me and my family.

Red feathers rings in the new year by ringing her own bell...
This morning was unusual. I have always had a connection to birds of prey, particularly hawks and eagles. When I got out of bed this morning I went to the table in front of a big picture window and reached for a kleenex when WHAM! a small red tail hawk had slammed into the glass above my head. The poor little thing hung on the screen of the door neaby upside down and utterly dazed. My partner and I watched it in awe as she fell to the ground, sitting on her bum, legs streched out in front and wings open in a state of shock, head lolling, eyes closed, beak working like someone who's been punched in the jaw. I ventured out to take pictures of this rare moment and got closer to her than any other live wild bird, least of all a hawk. She was too stunned to care how close I got but as much as I wanted to stroke her head and wings I refrained. After a half hour or so she stood on her legs and puffed her feathers against the slight chill. Sometimes she opened her eyes and looked like she had a hard time focusing so they closed again, head to chest. If she could I bet she would've groaned in pain. We both had to leave the house but when I left, I crept close and told her she'd be all right. With that she realized how close a human was and took off flying straight, thank goodness, to a large Norway, safe from the heckling crows and neighborhood cats. I happily reflected on this event the rest of the day.

Tonight is New Year's eve. It wraps up a huge year for me. Hawks, as I mentioned, have an impact on my psyche when they cross my path. Call it a good omen or just a coincidence but I feel this little hawk's mistake was meant for me to witness. I am glad to know that it is natural to fly straight into windows, get hurt, and take time to regroup. Of course I mean that tongue-in-cheek, but there is something comforting in knowing that every creature has setbacks, but also has the ability to recover, stand up, and fly away.

Hi my name is Danielle, and I am very unfamiliar with animal omens. I believe that I have a very strong message coming from a hawk that recently has begun to live around my house. I have only seen him four times recently. The first time I saw him, he flew down and struck a bird right in front of me. He looked at me then flew away, when he looked at me, I sensed that he had no fear of me. The second time I saw him was when he flew across my view through a window in my house. The third time was when I heard him cry three times and I looked out window and he was encircling the sky. The fourth time was when I was on my way somewhere and he was on top of a bird in the middle of the road blocking my path. He stood there boldly in front of the car with his clutch on a bird. I also had a dream of him where the hawk was flying and I was watching him. Then all of a sudden he flew down on to me and sat perched on my arm. I began to stroke him as I examined the patterns of his feathers. I noticed his the darts on his chest and focused on them. I felt a great feeling of love for the hawk in my dream. An immense sense of happiness. I have no clue to what this all means. I keep on thinking about him and what he is telling but I really do not know. I was wondering if you could help me decipher these occurrences. ****Update*** I've seen hawks more times than I can count now, I see them constantly, they are on the sides of roads, perched in trees, flying above me, crying out. I feel like it trying to tell me something, like I need to know something, to look, but I don't know what that is, and where to start. I have even seen a hawk while riding my horse. It stopped in the path and then flew up into the sky where it cried over and over until I began to gallop after it in the trees. It came to rest in a beautiful white tree, where it stopped and looked at me, but then it vanished. I don't think this is by chance that I have begun to see hawks almost daily now. I know what they stand for, but I don't know how to find the way in which it applies to me. Does anyone have similar experiences or has suggestions as where to look for answers.

Yesterday I was taking my dogs for a walk - a hawk swooped down and landed on my front porch gate. I continued my walk for about 20 minutes and returned to find the hawk still on my front gate. I put my dogs in the back yard and went around to scoot the hawk away. He wouldn't budge and finally I rousted him - in the meanwhile my dogs got in a fight with each other and I had to break it up. I know their must be some significance to this. It sort of scared me - the hawk was intimidating. Is this some sign? And if so what could it possibly mean?

Red Tailed Hawk Symbolism
It is very interesting that we are having persistent experiences with this wonderful creatures. I have been seeing red-tailed hawks everywhere I go for several years now--sometimes several sightings a day in all different places, Cape Cod, in the country, NYC, in my neighborhood, and on the first real date with my fiance I saw a dozen or so gliding on thermals together. I don't search the sky looking for them--they find me and sometimes they have to swoop down on my car for me to notice. There is an obvious purposefulness to their attempts to connect with me. I feel that the message is to remind me to look to spirit. Here is a very complete interpretation that I found:

Red Tailed Hawk Affirmation Card: I am healed and empowered through my visions. My life moves forward.

There are many types of Hawks found throughout the world and each has medicine specific to their individual types. Yet there also characteristics that are specific to all Hawks and those are the focus here.

Hawks are visionaries and messengers. As a totem they help to open the higher chakras so that we may hear and see the visions and messages that Spirit and the Universe are always sending our way. There is never a moment when the Universe is not trying to get a message through to us but we are so often too busy or unaware of what it is we need to be watching for! Hawk helps us to not only be aware that we are receiving a message but how to interpret them. The realm of symbols is also the realm of Hawk for Hawk is able to soar high above the earth to soar on the breath of Spirit, to commune with Spirit and thus understand through the intuitive level what the message means and with their keen eyesight, how to implement it once they return to earth through seeing the broader picture below.
Many of the messages Hawk may bring are about freeing yourself of thoughts and beliefs that are limiting your ability to soar above your life and gain a greater perspective. If one remains earthbound, then the possibilities of life are limited! It is this ability to soar high above to catch a glimpse of the bigger picture that is one of the aspects of Hawk medicine that makes it so valuable: If one is undergoing a difficult passage to know that just over the next hill is freedom and liberation if one keeps going can be a Godsend in supporting the person to keep moving forward! Likewise, if the path is not appropriate, Hawk Medicine can alert one to this and point out a far more favourable path.
Hawk medicine unites Heaven and Earth. Because of their ability to soar, they are able to reach up to the heavens to extract needed information and bring it back to earth. Much of this information is also very practical for use on a daily basis! It is not only higher concepts or ideas that are relayed, but also information we need to make our material or mundane lives more prosperous and fulfilling. For those who have difficulty attracting financial well being due to false or negative beliefs about money and success, Hawk can help to understand the true spiritual intent and purpose behind money and guide one in establishing new beliefs that are more joyful and abundant in nature.
Hawk can alert us to those times when we should NOT take action because we do not yet have all the information we need. For example, someone is thinking of about becoming involved in a relationship, personal or business, yet they get the feeling that something is "not quite right". This needs to be heeded and Hawk sent forth to gather the appropriate information to help the person make the best choice. Sometimes the person finds that Hawk was telling them to steer clear for very good reasons!
Hawk can also help balance those who are more attuned to the lunar sides of their nature and have trouble expressing the solar side in pursuit of their goals. It helps the person to activate the positive aspects of their sun sign and to balance it with the lunar needs.

Hawk people have their own unique challenges in life. Often they feel misunderstood in that when they attempt to deliver an important message others may shy away from it or respond with anger. Sometimes the messages may not be what the other person really wants to hear and yet the Hawk person feels duty bound to relay the message, no matter the consequences. It is important however that Hawk people do be aware of how they are presenting the messages they receive. They need more than many others to try and deliver the messages as gently as they can, only becoming more forceful if their inner guidance absolutely says it is needed. Sometimes simply thinking through for a time what needs to be said can help Hawk medicine people find just the right words to use that will make all the difference and in this they should be encouraged to take their time and soar above for a while before speaking their truth.
Hawk medicine people like many who carry strong predator totems may be shunned by others who sense and fear their inner power. Others may sense that this is a person who can see straight through them and as many folks think in terms of judging things as being good or bad, they are afraid that the Hawk person will see who they "really" are and so they strike first in an attempt to keep the Hawk person at bay. Hawk people need to learn how to veil their energy somewhat, not as an attempt to deceive others but to allow people to get to know them and understand that Hawk has no interest in judging others. Often these people have seen so much of the best and worst in life that they find they have no need to judge. All is part and parcel of Spirit's plan and if Spirit sees fit not to judge, why should the Hawk person?

Some Hawk people may have a tendency because of their vast ability to see clear through to the heart of things to become arrogant and this should be avoided because it keeps them earthbound as well as turning other people off! Often this starts as confusion on the part of the Hawk person who cannot understand why others seem unable to be as aware of the larger picture and their own issues and projections. Especially when the Hawk person also has Mercury in Aquarius or in Mercury in aspect to Uranus which further enhances their ability to see and know, they may fail to understand that others are not as well developed yet in these areas and blurt out what they see and know without thinking of how it may impact another person. If they can keep in mind that their talents and abilities are gifts they have been given and that others carry medicine that the Hawk person may be weak in expressing it helps them to stay focused on Spirit as the true messenger and that they are the Hollow Bones for the energy to flow through. No totem is better than another! Each is part of the larger tapestry and as such all are powerful and important.

Some with Hawk medicine find they have difficulty attracting the "right life Partner". Hawk people may find that they tend to attract more "earthy" types who find the Hawk person's need to "soar" disruptive or unimportant. This may occur because at a deeper level the Hawk person is fearful of soaring too high and crashing to earth Icarus like. In this instance, the Hawk person's real issue is one of learning how to trust themselves and their medicine. Hawk people can pair well with more earth centered people because the earthy person can encourage the Hawk person to stay on earth long enough to bring some of their visions and ideas to fruition before soaring off to the Heights again. It can be very easy for hawk people to want to stay high above the earth and never bring their wonderful ideas back to earth where they and others can put them practice.
Since Hawks mate for life, the Hawk Person may need to accept that it may take them some time before they find the person meant for them yet when they do, it is well worth the wait! Otherwise the Hawk person may find themselves tied to someone and unable to free themselves easily because of the deep entanglements they have created with this other person. Especially if children are involved in the relationship, the Hawk person may feel an extra strong sense of duty to stay in the relationship for the "sake of the children" as in many cases I have seen where the Hawk person ended up as the sole provider for the family . What the Hawk person needs is someone who can accept and honour their gifts and talents, giving them the space they need to soar high above.

In the Celtic tradition Hawk empowers a person to seek out their ancestral roots and to examine in depth that which is positive so that it may be integrated into the person's life and that which is limiting so it can be released. Tradition is only worth honoring when it supports joy and fulfillment in one's life! In this tradition Hawk also supports the solar side as stated above, helping a person to move forward in life and to seek out great quests to embark upon.

In the Egyptian Tradition Hawk was associated with Magic and shapeshifting. Isis is said to have shapeshifted into a Hawk to save Osiris. Horus also carried Hawk medicine which allowed him to see the "unseeable".

Among Native American traditions, Hawk served the role of Mercury, bringer of messages and portents of change. Hawk reminded the people they needed to be awake and aware.

One of the greatest gifts a Hawk medicine person can give the world is their visions of a better and brighter future. Visionaries are always ahead of their time and it's not easy seeing what others are not ready to see. Often these people are not honoured and recognized for their work and efforts until long after they have crossed over. And yet their work lives on to touch and enrich the lives of people the world over! Honour the Hawk people you meet in your life. Encourage them to soar so they may bring their visions and messages back to earth that all may benefit. If you are a Hawk person yourself, understand that Spirit can you an especial task to hold the energy of what could be, of potentials that are waiting to be envisioned and thus expressed through the mass consciousness. Seek out other Hawk people who can support you in your life and never allow others to cause you to lose sight of what is really important to you! Trust in the messages that Spirit entrusts to your special care and know that the expression of your visions will bring blessings not only to you, but also to all others!

Here is a brief expression of three specific Hawk medicines:

Red Tailed Hawk - An intensified Life force, often those who carry this Hawk medicine have Pluto and Mars strong in the horoscope. These folks are able to achieve great things through persistence and sheer strength of will. This Hawk can also help a person understand and overcome obstacles to prosperity and abundance.

Hawks and Ospreys
I would love to hear from those of you who have commented and wondered if the hawk's presence meant anything -- Now that some time has passed, what do you think? I have been experiencing increasing encounters with hawks -- and now ospryes -- over the past 8 years...with it starting when I would walk my dogs in the woods and a hawk (the same one?) would fly in front of us, calling out, almost as if it was guiding us down the path or trying to "herd" us a certain direction. It's been only in the last year, though, that I see them so often and under such unusual circumstances that I have realized there has GOT to be meaning to this. I'm talking about a hawk flying alongside my car (like someone else here experience), one perching itself on a light post in front of my house when no one has ever seen them in our neighborhood, etc. I am beginning now, too, to have "close encounters" with ospreys.
A few months ago (I wasn't connecting this...maybe there is no connection), I was dreaming that I was singing a song in another language. I kept repeating the same words over and over. I wrote them down when I woke up. Did a Google search and found the Tuscahara (sp...I should check) -- native american -- language.
What the....?

A red hawk perched on my car!
I was coming out of work yesterday when I saw something sitting on the hood of my car, as I got closer I saw that it was a red-tailed hawk. It was a beautiful bird and it let me get up to about 5 feet away (well I didn't try to get closer anyway). I took a few pics with my cellphone and it just hung out on my windshield wipers looking around and looking at me. It was a little bigger than the one shown in the picture above. After about 10 minutes it hopped off my car and ran over to some grass. I followed a little bit and then it took off but flew very close to the ground and headed into the woods nearby. That was the first time I've ever been so close to such a beautiful creature that was not in a zoo or sanctuary. I was wondering if the meaning is the same?

It is a relief to hear that others have frequent hawk sightings and wonder of their meaning. I have read the other posts with interest and thank you for insight and stories. In January of this year, my best friend suddenly died. Although he had been ill, he was not honest about the extent of his illness, so his death was early, and it was self-inflicted. The morning after his death, while standing on the platform waiting for my train to work, a redtail suddenly appeared on a heavy wire directly above my head. I had quite a close view. The bird and I watched each other until the train came, and I thought that if my friend came back, that Hawk would be appropriate. There is much that Hawk could teach him. Over the year, I have seen hawks frequently, sometimes for just a flash as I am riding on the train gazing out the window and wa-la, for two seconds, I see Hawk perched, usually on the highest telephone pole or tree. A couple of days ago, as I walked up on the train platform once again, I heard a loud and insistent screeing/whistling, and immediately began searching for its maker. As often happens when I want to know something, a man and women then walked past me on the platform, and the woman said to the man as they passed, "that's a hawk," and he said, "I know, I can't find it." I had never heard the sound of Hawk, so this was a wonderful revelation, and I silently blessed those strangers, who too hear and see the world. I did locate the hawk as he continued to scree, and I was able to watch and listen until the train came. I have had another unexpected sighting since then, and I finally decided to look into the symbolism of Hawk. I find the commentary here relevant to my life, and I wanted to post my thoughts. Thanks for the space.

Extraordinary Hawk Encounters
This link was sent to me on Wednesday 21 October 2009 after i had shared the most extraordinary encounter of my life with one of my earth angel friends!
As i was about to finish my morning run, i decided at the last second to extend it another mile or so. Half way into this last mile, I noticed a huge shadow about my head, only to look up as the Hawk was swooping within inches of my head! I felt the power of its wings as they moved the air by me! Hawk then landed on a very nearby branch and stared at me. Alittle startled, yet not fearful, i explained to the Hawk that i was his/her friend and that i had no intention of anything but love for Hawk. Slowly, I backed away and just as i pivoted on my right foot to continue my trek, Hawk flew to me again - knocking my baseball hat from my head! I felt the top side of Hawks talon grazing my head! Again, it landed on another nearby branch and set its gaze upon me. We were locked in our gaze with each other for several seconds. I assured Hawk once again, that i was grateful for its presence in my experience and that i would never harm her/him. As i backed away again, she/he swooped down once more. This time, my left hand made contact with the underside of Hawk's wing! Hawk landed higher up in another tree and watched me as i slowly disappeared.
Then yesterday, 2 days later, i decided to walk that same route, all the while looking up to the sky to see if Hawk was visible. No Hawk...until i walked back to the front of my house and i heard her screech, looked up and she was just about to land on a branch in a very nearby tree! I stood still...breathed in her amazing presence and i just stood in awe of the moment. She just watched. Slowly she flew away.
I am so drawn to Hawk and all he/she can teach me. Intense gratitude and reverence and love are what show up most for Hawk.

Hawk sightings
I like others on this sight have had hawk sightings more often than coincidence would allow. Most recently, actually just yesterday, I sighted a hawk soaring to the right of the suv I was traveling in on a two lane highway. I saw the hawk and casually asked my cousin, the driver, if she sees the hawk flying? She said no and I told her to look where I was pointing and she saw it too. it looked just like the one on this page by the way. I don't know if this means anything but we were on our way to the graveyard after one or our cousins funeral. Also, I have pointed out hawk sightings to my wife while sitting on our backyard deck. When I first told my wife about seeing hawks quite often and than pointed them out to her on occassion she was fascinated and suggested I look up the meaning on the computer so here I am talking about it to others. Oh, also I see hawks while on breaks at work and point them out to others now and then.

My Hawks
I have been sleeping a lot lately. As if I can't stay awake. There are two hawks that live behind my apartment in the trees. All the days that I have been sleeping they have been communicating. Almost as if to say, 'Wake Up, wake up, wake up.' They are there now. They just keep screeching. It is not an unwelcome sound. They remind me that I am alive. I always have red tailed hawks with me wherever I go. When I travel I see them by the road always. Every place that I have lived, there has been a pair of Red Tails in residence. I read the posts. They make sense. I always knew that the hawks weren't random, that they were for me. I guess it is time for me to wake up. Literally and Figuratively.

Hawk flies in my house
Today turned warm, and I opened the double doors to my patio. A few minutes later, i heard a noise, and I saw a bird had flown into my kitchen, but it wasn't just a bird, it was a hawk! and it wasn't just a hawk, it was a baby hawk! and it wasn't just a baby hawk, it had a dead bird that it dropped on the counter.
He hopped around and I finally got him into a corner, where I was able to pick him up fairly easily. While I was holding him in my hands, he did not flail around or struggle! I was surprised, because I wasn't frightened of his claws or beak. He did not attempt to bite me. I took him into the back yard and opened my hands and he glided from me very low, and then flew off.
I then carried the dead bird to the back yard. I left him under a branch.
At first I thought of this encounter as a frightening portent. I looked up birds flying into houses, and they all said "death". But I continued to search, instead looking up hawks. I was happy to read this Hawk Symbolism, because while I do not believe that the hawk is my animal totem, (mine is the horse) I am looking for a spiritual awakening! My journey has been long and at many times discouraging. I choose to see this event as a sign, not of death, but to continue on my journey. This hawk was young, and I am young in my awakening. Thank you for this site.

I am both delighted and worried to have found all this great info about hawks. For about a year now I have been chronicling the hawk sightings of one particular red tail in my neighborhood; I live very near the downtown area of a huge city in the south, but my neighborhood is old and very heavily wooded. The hawk showed up when it nested in my neighbor's tree, but it seems to feed in my yard or nearby. Two days ago, when I walked out the back door, the hawk flew over my head away from my house. A little later my dog came in with the head of a squirrel that had been ripped off its body; apparently the hawk did that because my dogs did not. I must admit it frightened me a little, not the head but the meaning of the whole thing. It feels like an overt message. Today while I was outside the hawk sat in the top of a tree and called out over and over; every time I looked up he was looking at me. I know that hawks are said to bring warnings of death according to American Indian beliefs, but I do prefer to think that this one is just attached to me, and I to him. I am writing a book about our journey together, that is what brought me to this site. Life takes many strange turns......

3 Hawks
On Sunday January 31, 2010 My husband and I were leaving our fertility center after having 3 embyos implanted, (we have been trying to conceive for 12 years) as we walked out the door my husband said look up, I was amazed to see the hawks and of all things 3 soaring in a circle above us. We were praying that this is a good sign!!!

my brother's death
My best friend who was also my brother passed away. I was giving the eulogy and went outside the church to pickup a rock to go with the talk I was about to give (he had been my rock in life). In the parking lot of the church, in the busy suburbs of Tampa, FL. A red tailed hawk flew down and sat on the handicapped parking sign in front of my. I spoke softly to the hawk, calling the hawk by my brother's name. I moved closer and closer as I spoke. The hawk's head turned was turned as he watched me wiht depth. I felt great peace, no fear. It was as if there was no time or space between us. I had to finally go into the churc as the service was beginning. I am not sure how long the hawk was there, but it watched me as I walked into the church.

Over the years since my brother's death, red tail hawks appear to me. Many many times when I drive they swoop down in front of my car. Not sure what my brother is trying to tell me when the haw appears, but his presence is felt.

Hawk has been sitting on top my Philadelphia row house for 3 Days leaves then comes back
I go outside to take out the trash and my neighbor from across the street calmly said "Have you ever seen a bird that big before?" and I look up and lo and behold it is a huge hawk sitting on my TV antenna on the roof of my house -(no worries I have cable) non the less she continued "He's been sitting on your house for 3 Days" A few days before a friend of mine passed away suddenly and violently and I had been bummed- she had no idea about this I had just found out about it two days before but knew about it from the news from Friday but didn't know it was my friend.. I lived in a highly populated area with hundreds of thousands of people and homes stacked right next to each other like dominoes etc. Philadelphia, PA is a million plus person city with all kinds of urban hub bub going on. Why my house out of everybody? So i decided to look up symbolism of the Hawk. and found this page. I'm glad its here it gave me some insight.

I have always wanted to see these magnificent birds up close. I tried for many years I even bought a pair of bird watching binoculars so I could get a closer look if I see one while hiking or camping-I keep them in my car. and lo and behold I go right outside and there is one sitting on my antenna I even got my binoculars to get a closer look and As I did he looked right at me. It was really kool. He's still out there now as I type this. My neighbor said she first noticed him because he made a noise 3 days ago. She did say that the hawk comes and goes as he or she pleases. the week before I also lost my job due to lack of work(recession) I guess this are going to be alright now. I am part native american (not that this makes a difference but I have been taught to revere nature and it's signs.)
I used to participate in Pow wows as well but its been many many years since I have. Interestingly enough i did witness at my last pow wow during the dance that was dedicated to a raptor I cant remember which I don't want to be wrong so I just say"raptor" But I as well as hundreds of people witnessed 3, yes 3 raptors come down out of the sky and fly and circle around the dancer as he did his dance dedicated to them. This happened numerous times. and when the dance was over no one said a word about it. So there must be something to this stuff. Well anyway God Bless you all. Peace.

Hawk Sightings
I searched out sights on the internet to find the meaning of hawks. My dad passed away 2 years ago this May. He was an avid learner of Native American tribes and traditions, he studied native Americans his entire life ! As I read the feedback on Hawk sightings I could'nt believe that someone else felt that these hawk sightings are more than a coinsidence. I know that they are more than a coinsedence! just by the number of times they are soaring by my car as I drive or high in the sky as I walk ! And the way i feel when I see them. I would like to think that they are tuely "a messenger from the sky '!
I am so glad I did th search and that you all posted your comments.

redtail rescue
we have had a young female red tail in our back yard for about two weeks it was injured(broken wing and swollen talin),I was amazed at its dosile behavior, I put out raw hamburger as she was unable to hunt due to injuries and called a local rehab for raptres. We were able to contain the bird so her injuries could be tended to. I t was an awsome experience for me.

new meanings & beginnings
For the past ten years I have seen red tail hawl just about every day! I was so fascinated with them. I'd stop & see one perched in a tree or swooping down into a field & thought they were so incredibly beautiful! One day, not to long ago I was on a country road & while driving I looked to my drivers side window & there was a red tail hawk flying along side of my window at my eye level , he traveled atleast a half a mile or even more with me. I was amazed & always, always wondered if there was a special meaning, or how did native American Indians few this occurance?. Thats why I found this sight to finally ask what does this mean. I am enlightened & blessed for this imformation. Thank you! On a personal note.... I recently started dating someone I went to Highschool with. 31 yrs ago we dated for about ten days & I broke it off and we started dating only one month ago after not even seeing eachother for 29 of those yrs. I've fallen in love so deeply that I'll love this man as long as he lets me. Come to find that he has a huge red tail hawk tatoo on his back about full size to an actual bird, I knew immediately that this was meant to be. In my eyes, its a sign if you believe its a sign! & I believe, I believe, I believe! Thanks for listening & letting me share! Janet

Red tail
Red tail became a guide in 1998 and has been with me every since - although I do not see her every day. For me, her appearance has been linked to some of my life challenges, some are health related, and others focused on more "earthly" struggles that Ive had to work through which have connections to coping with scarcity and abundance. I've found the statement that you earn your red tail to be an understatement, because she has been my guide during some very painful periods in my life. Her role as a "messenger" has taught me that when she appears, I should pay attention, because a message is coming. Its a kind of mixed blessing, some news is not always good news, I have to learn to accept all as an opportunity to grow, but that's not always easy to do.

My first memory was hearing her. I am blessed with clairaudience, and clairvoyence, and often hear her even when I don't see her. Over time, I learned to intrepret the messages - things like the number of hawks that appear, and their actions - this has developed over the years into a kind of rapor.

Like others have posted her, I've found it also true that red tail will act as my protector and have learned that if my desire is geniune (ie do no harm), I can take it one step further and rather than wait for her to appear, call upon her to act as my watcher or sentinel. Of course, its not always simple - hawk for me is a guardian for certain life quests and sometimes I call upon her only to find another more "appropriate" traveller has been sent to guide me. I've learned hawk , like any traveller, can only do so much - its knowing what she can and can't do that is a life lesson - I'm still learning.

I have had many other travellers visit me but hawk is special - its not because she was the first - its because she is the one that changed the way I experience the world. Yeah, my life is still ordinary, its is however on a different level and there is comfort in knowing.

I've enjoyed reading this and the other posts here - knowing other kindred spirits exist makes me smile.

Last night during a long walk in the forest, I came across 2 hawk flight feathers in perfect condition laying on the trail in front of me. I knew when I found the first, that a second would follow - flight feathers when they do appear, always come in pairs. The second was laying on the ground a few kilometres away from the first - on the path I took to go home.

Feathers for me are a gift. Its been several years since I received any. Its a wonderful world!

Incredible experience
My husband went back east for a family reunion. We have been together for almost 30 years. His family is pretty messed up, dad has been married three times three sets of kids and the third wife treated my husband really badly. She still treats us like second rate people. His biological mother died. This trip he went alone. He visited his mothers grave site and sobbed. He tried very hard to connect with his family but they are cold and calculating. After picking him up from the airport our 11 year old sat shot-gun with his dad, and I napped int he back seat. Almost home, I heard them comment about a large bird on the side of the road and it walked into a car. Our son saw the entire "suicide attempt" the car tried to get out of the way but alas the bird lay on the side of the road. Immediately I awoke and told my husband to turn around and go back. He was reluctant but with our sons urging he agreed. We turned around and went back. As they approached the bird, I told them to pick the Hawk up and bring it to the car and put it in the back. I had no idea it was a hawk, but something inside knew. My husband picked up the lifeless bird and we drove home, a minute away. I checked the internet for a native bird rescue, and found a raptor rescue close by. Its sunday night and no one was open. I finally reached an on call vet after about 10 calls to various locations and they said put it in a box make some holes and in the morning take it to UC Davis Raptor Rescue. The bird was breathing but lifeless. When we had the box ready we opened the back of the car and the bird was standing up wings out spread and you could see the birds beautiful red tail. Our 11 year old son has a very tender heart for animals, and this is some sort of message to our family but not sure how to read it. I know my husband has suffered with his lack of love in his family and the tears he shed on his biological mothers grave early today I am sure this bird was a messenger to us. We checked on the bird about an hour ago and it is perched in the box with its beak toward the largest hole. In the morning we are going to try and free it, if it fly's away then we would have had the most incredible experience. If it doesn't fly away we will take it to rescue. This is so strange even for me to understand the complete meaning. Any shamans out there have any ideas? My husband has a new found spirituality after reading some of the postings here on this site. Thanks for sharing. I'll check back again tomorrow.

Yesterday I was sitting in my home office at my computer reading about meditation, my husband recently died of lung cancer suddenly, we live in a small town in Santa Barbara county out in the middle of no where, it's 25 miles in each direction to get to the nearest city. Well on your way thru any of these country roads you can once in a while see a red tail hawk ,yesterday I had one fly and land on the telephone wire that you can see out my office window I couldn't believe what I was seeing I have lived her for 14 years and have never seen one in a residential area< Larry loved red tail hawks he always looked for them everytime we traveled the roads that connect us to the other cities, I somehow believe that hawk was a sigh and that his spirit was in it I can not imagine why a red tail hawk would just show up like that it's only been 6 weeks that hes passed, Larry used to get so excited to spot one of these beautiful birds and boy was he beautiful I wish I would of had my camera.

Red Shoulder Hawk Sighting
On Friday 11/05/10, as I traveled to work, I was sitting at a stop light located at Archer Avenue (Route 171) and 127th Street, Lemont, IL. I had noticed a relatively large bird fly low close to hood of my vehicle and then perch in an old oak tree to my left as I awaited the light to change. He/she was very intent on staring at me and I turned to look at other drivers in other cars to see if they noticed this bird (they didn't act like it). I know I am blessed and the more opportunity I have to observe wild life, the more I am sure that only we can help to keep what little habitat they have remaining intact.

the same thing twice now.
I live in a apartment building on the bottom apt. i have sliding glass doors, but let me say that they are in know way too clean and i have blinds that go across. the first time that a hawk has tried to fly through my door, it sat outside for a good 30 min, on one of my lawn chairs. this was about 2 years ago, i was rattled by it and couldn't get it out of my mind for a long time. I ended up taking mu daughter to a cherokee powow and met the cheif who invited us to a cherokee nation meeting. we went because i wanted my daughter to connect with part of her hertiage. at the meeting they started talking about the signifance of the Hawk!!!! I was shocked! Later on i talk to the chief avout this synocrnicity. since then we haven't been back to that group thier meetings didn't corraspond with our scedual. And I have been going through a LONG transition, it seems I will never come out on the other side, and i feel as if i'm in the depths of it right now, my younger brother was killed a few months ago and my grief has yet to subside and i feel that the depression has slowed down the process even more. But today, i was laying on my couch messing around on my laptop when "BOOM" there it was again the same loud soul shaking thud on my glass door. my poor kitty jumped sky high and stopped half way to the door, i got up and tiptoed over to see, i already knew what it was. there it was sitting on my portch again. looking into the door so here i am looking for a reason, some explination of what this is a sign of. Does mean for me to keep truckin'? or am i going the wrong way?? IDK which way i'm even going at this point. Been in my house for awhile now. but the last time this happend I meet new people.HMMM I wonder.

This is 4 years later...
I'm not sure if anyone will ever see this considering this post was from 2007. However I've had experiences like these for the past 8 or 9 months now. It all started when I was in school walking down the hall way and I suffered a massive almost collapsing migraine, I heard a very loud bird shriek. Ever since then I have seen red tail hawks absolutely everywhere, usually very very large ones, or one he seems to be the same every time. If not a large one two medium size ones, or at one point I saw one small one then two then three then six then seven then 10 then 12 all spinning in a huge circle in the sky literally appearing from no where. If anyone does read this m insanely interested in what this all means, I'm going to continue to read everyone's stories and maybe find something out.

have you seen my mind?
About 5 years ago a red tailed flew into the house i had my back turned washing dishes and he knocked my shoulder and landed in front of me struggling between me and the window. I was in shock! Someone in the house caught him and he flew away. about two weeks ago, while taking someone home on the mountain another relative, red tail flew close over the car and landed on the side of the road we were traveling and was straightening out its wing. I was on the job site about weeks ago when someone i was with, while doing a survey found a harris hawk in a bucket about three feet tall and three feet wide dead from poison from a farming field, i called some friends and a relative and I knew what I had to do, as was the first encounters were very amazing the last was heavy on my heart. Now knowing what i was informed to spread to other people this has helped me in many ways to be in peace with a message...... this was passed to me and i have been getting messages to pass to others.... go to "you tube" and click in "haarp" alaska project search around, California is seen by many natives around the country and others not just natives that an earthquake is to come around the 13th of March 2011. It was brought to my attention and i have been praying and pacing and asking for help, I hope you can help me in my journey and in everyones and your own, through faith, GOD, prayer and Hope Aho....

Dad passes and references Hawk
Many years ago my dad passed away at a young age while I was still a young man. He was in a comma for a few weeks and the day of his death he woke up for a few hours and spoke to us as if he was very well - almost normal. He commented on how everyone was there, but he was facing the window from his bed in the hospital room. I was on that side of the bed and asked how he could "see" everyone. He very calmly explained that he had a "hawks eye view of the room". He let us know he was ready to soar. Since that day 25 years ago, I see red tail hawk all the time. I have come to believe that this symbol in my life is to help me see the road I need to travel. There may be danger ahead, a decision to make or something happening that needs attention. I listen each time to the messenger.

My dad was one of the first people to become involved in ecology in the early 70's. He worked to clean up the environment by helping factories design products that cleaned the smoke from smokestacks protecting the air, making devices that cleaned chemicals out of the cleaning process making sure the rivers were cleaned and teaching others how important the environment was to all of us. He won awards from the state and manufacturing community, quietly in most cases. I am an Eagle Scout and have been involved in nature since I was a young boy. I helped identify many areas of pollution in our town and brought about many changes to help clean up the local rivers which are now filled with fish. These magnificent animals are here to remind us of our duty to protect the environment. My dad flies high above me often to remind me of the importance of life.

Thank you for this site. It has helped me to believe that I see these creatures for a reason, it's not an accident. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't see or hear the Hawk in my life.

Amazing Journey
A number of years ago, I realized Red-Tail showed up as a primary totem for me, and I feel very blessed - I am not always sure what message it is bringing, sometimes I really struggle trying to understand, yet on a very basic level I know they are conveying to me the inherent need to always have a Sacred reverence for all life, and strive to practice Kindness, Honesty, Truth, Justice, Love and Compassion - sometimes this is not easy to do, a tall order indeed at times!

However, I've found that as I mature into my own Spirituality, with patience and perseverance, I am indeed earning the Red-Tail Feathers that come with maturity - As of late, they have been visiting me regularly, and as I've really been struggling with a job I'm burnt on, a lack of romance in my life, and tough economic times like so many others, I think the Red tails are encouraging me to keep flying, as better times are just over the next hill, which I do believe is true; as well part of the challenge is to remain spiritually grounded, even and especially during the tough times, as ironically that is when one earns their feathers - it's easy to be "spiritual" when everything is flowing like milk and honey, yet the real test comes when the world seems set against you, for whatever personal reason(s) - the Red-Tail message for me is to Never Give Up, and to enjoy the beauty and simplicity of reverence for life that each day brings - in that rare space, peace and contentment abound!

The red Hawk
I have encountered the Red Hawk on many occassions, usualy when I am in a deep spiritual thought. One day I was riding my bike and I was going thru some deep thoughts when I looked to my left and here was this
Red Hawk gliding next to me, wings opened almost touching, I looked into his eyes, and I could feel him telling me not to worry everything was going to be all right, after a moment he flew off..today as I was walking my dog, also in deep thought I saw this Red Hawk sitting on the trail as if once again he was speaking to me, as I walked he followed, when I came home and once again I took my otehr dog out, there he was flying over me... I felt a closeness to God and nature. I felt honored that I had been chosen.

Alchemy and the number 14
I've found Hawk to guide those who have been broken. There was a period in my life hawk was present every day. I could look outside my window and see her sitting on a hydro tower, watching me. It was not just a bird, perched on a tower - it was a bird STARING - at me. One of the things Ted Andrew's explains in his books is the ancient rite of alchemy - (quote) "alchemy is the process of burning away the dross to reveal the gold beneath.". During that time, a particularly dark period in my life, I could literally watch hawk fly straight up in the clear blue sky and continue to the point the bird disappeared - literally, this bird "evaporated". (as nutty as it sounds). This happened several times during that summer and It took me a while to figure it out - but after hitting rock bottom, I finally got it: stop obsessing - the panic, fear and stress I was putting on myself was futile and destructive. Worry about not having money is not going to bring success. All that worry was the dross and it was holding me back. As Andrews states - the process of alchemy is to evaporate and distill that which is no longer beneficial and then extract the essence after the non-essential aspects have evaporated. I realized in order to move forward, I had to shed my inner fears and open myself up to the belief I DESERVED success. And when I finally did, success did come. Now 7 years later, hawk appears less frequently, but today I heard her cry. Its time.

I found the tail feather of a hawk. was this a good omen for my mom.?
I have always seen alot of wildlife in odd areas, 2 coyotes , 1 in my back yard and one outside in a field. I have also seen alot of foxes and one year eve a raccoon this not usual because i live in a residential area where my neighbor is 10 ft away.. But the most interesting thing I have seen was ahawk family on my moms front lawn . It was kind of odd because they actually let me watch them for awhile and then flew to a nearby tree almost like they werent afraid of me. Then shortly after I found one in the tree in my yard. I was again surprised because even though my dogs were going crazy it didnt seem to care. Then few weeks later my gogs had a coyote trapped under my deck. My dogs my protectors eventually scared it away, but I was none the less shocked to see it in my small yard. Then shortly after that I went to my moms and found the tail feather of Hawk on her wheelchair ramp. I have heard from some people that maybe I am being sent a message. my question is what that might be and if it is me or my mom they are sending it too.

Hawks into my life
Hawk encounter #1 and #2 in 2010
The following occurred on a September's day at "Vietnam" which is a mountain bike riding area in Milford MA . I was hanging out alone near the bottom of the "Rubber Stamp" single track DH trail doing the last two easy stunts. I was trying to get back into mental and physical shape after a bad crash and breaking my wrist in early June. I was standing at a trail junction and as I looked up the narrow trail for "incoming", I see this big hawk do a leisurely landing in the dirt, back up the trail about 50 feet from me. Heavy fast DH bike traffic had just been thru this section. The hawk then lofted onto a roller rock that we use as a stunt to get more speed, like he was saying, "BFD that you guys fly down this trail........but I've got the rock now". Concerned for the hawk's safety, I decided to slowly push my bike back up the trail to get a closer look, hoping he would just leave. Instead, the hawk while eyeing me, decides to do a slow low loft off the rock and down the trail towards me before landing in the dirt on the trail about half way from that rock to me....eyeing me all the while. He then shifted in the dirt to the side of the single track, continuing to eye me thru the brush. Next, the hawk pops back out and does a low slow deliberate loft again down the trail towards me, cutting that distance in half and then lands in the dirt about 15 feet from me.........all the while eyeing me. I could hear his wings push the air as he lofted towards me. It was dead quite as we stared at each other for minutes, making eye to eye contact the whole time. The whole thing was freaky and dead quite. Although I was wearing full armor with a FF helmet and glasses, I decided to bail down the trail and away from him. As I rode back up another trail in close proximity to our encounter, I wondered if he would be waiting for me. Not. Later, upon hearing voices nearby, I did come back to the same spot and asked some riders if they had seen the hawk. Nothing. We have all seen hawks at Nam circling out over the open power lines looking for prey, but I have never seen one that close in the woods and addressing anyone from ground level in the dirt...........and he wasn't injured.

The second Hawk encounter took place later in November 2010. As two friends and I were riding out from “Nam” and back to our cars on the Milford recreation path, I heard my riders shout out from behind me to "look out". At that moment, a hawk approached from behind me and nearly did a touch down on my helmet as it passed overhead to the front of me. The hawk then landed ahead of us about 25 feet on a low branch on the side of the path and gave us the eye. We passed in front of him and took a left down to the cars leaving the hawk in place. At that point, I told them about incident #1 and about Indian culture's comments on Hawks and of course, they were amused at my expense. They teased me and said I should go back and ask the hawk what it is I should learn.

Waking up one restless night months later and thinking about the hawk, the meaning finally flashed in my mind..... the first Hawk was teaching me something about my recovery situation that I missed at that time....."you have really been hurt and you should keep yourself "grounded" as I have to you. You can fly and I can fly, but have perspective on your endeaver and you will fly again". The American Indian culture considers Hawks to be a tool/sign of learning and vision. I am greatful for this experience. Was my second encounter with the same hawk? We will never know. And yes, as we went into fall, I had gotten my mojo back and was flying again.

Update: Twice now this spring in the same riding venue, I've have had a hawk circle me. The first time I was alone and a hawk flew in the trees above me as I entered the woods, landed in a tree and looked down at me before he turned and flew up and off. The second incident was this past week when my friend yelled from behind me and mentioned that a hawk had just circled me. Never saw him.

Sometimes, when stuff like this happens, words can't do the experience justice.....you just have to have been there.

Swooping hawks
Hawk sighting #1: In 2009, I was driving in La Jolla, CA on Torrey Pines Road (in a Nissan Murano - large windshield) past UCSD when a huge, beautiful hawk came into view and was headed right for my windshield, dead center! I was traveling at about 35 miles per hour and knew the hawk would hit me head on. It happened so suddenly I didn't have time to do much, but I quickly lowered my head and kept an eye on the hawk, just the same as the hawk kept an eye on me. In a matter of seconds the hawk completely swooped (within inches) over top of my windshield. I can clearly remember the beautiful wing span and red tail feathers, and it vanished. I slowed down to almost a complete stop and looked behind me, checked the mirrors, stuck my head out the window. No hawk in site. Hawk sighting #2: Last Monday, June 13, 2011, I was on the 5 fwy headed North and just ready to exit on Genesee Ave, traveling at 78 miles per hour when a hawk swept down from the sky and flew over my windshield (this time I'm driving a Prius, much smaller windshield). The hawk flew from the passenger side across to the drivers side of the windshield and vanished. I was completely shocked by such an unexpected event. If I had never experienced the first hawk sighting, I would have never believed what I saw. So now I'm trying to figure out why this happened to me. I went back to work and told several people and no one had ever heard of such actions from a hawk. So I searched the web and found this sight. I've read every story and feel truly blessed to have experienced such a magnificent creature. I believe there is a reason that I've been included in this life experience, but I haven't figured that out yet. I would like to say that the hawk will bring me great wealth next time I buy a lotto ticket! Instead, I get a deeper feeling in my gut about life and to appreciate each precious moment. Now when things bother me, I tell myself I'm soaring above all my problems and have a bird's eye view of how to handle them. It seems to be working.

Brother Hawk talking
My wife & I were blessed with a new home in the country after 21 years of marriage.During the course of settling in,I found a red tail Hawk feather in the backyard .Soon afterwards within a week 7 hawks flew directly above the house creating a funnel upwards of hawks. Each one had its own cirlcle and level up to highest flying Hawk.I have never seen such a thing before or since. On the 26th day of the first month (Jan) 2011, I was driving on to and from a business errand and I saw 26 Red tail hawks.Again,I have never seen such a thing before or since.
I receive both as spiritual messages that I am praying to understand.
Blessings to all my relations

It ain"t easy but do the best to change what needs to be changed before the paint dries
What was foretold and written long ago has already begun.

my recent experience in finding a red tail hawk
To start i should explain the cicumstances that brought the red tail hawk in to my life so here i go,a friend and i had decided to take a road trip to ft smith ar. from mena ar. and as we were about to leave town we saw an older man hitchhiking on the side of the road and it was like 100 degrees outside so i told my friend whom was driving lets give him a ride he can sit in the back of the truck bed ,so we pulled over and he said he needed to get to oklahoma,so we decided to go the back way through ok. to get to ft smith and along the way i saw a giant red tail hawk standing next to the road so i said stop i want to take some pictures so we pulled over and the hawk walked across the road into the woods so i got real close and took pictures(goto menaradio.com to see) anyway it seemed to me the bird was injured since it didnt try to fly away so i told my friend lets mark this spot and get some help(we drilled a satelite dish to the tree were bird was standing ) then we went back to a nature preserve and got the owner Tommy,he grabbed his glove and went and retrieved the bird ,turns out the hawk had a broken wing and had blisters on her feet and tar on back feathers ,(we named ait a boys name but now know shes a girl) anyway im happy to report that Tommy said she was very hungry and cleaned her up and bandaged wing ,I will get to release her in about 6 months and will document her progress on menaradio.com ,I wondered what the symbolism meant finding and helping such a majestic bird ,so if you know please let me know, also Tommy a grad of cornell and a licenced hawk saver (i was so lucky his place was on same rd) he and his sanctuary works on donations only and doesn't get any govt help, and has many saved animals there.Needs donations badly due to the drought our state has experienced ,please contact me as i work for a radio station ,my name is erik masters at 479-394-1450 and i will put you in touch with tommy and the sanctuary , maybe finding this sight will help his cause ,to date he has released over 10k hawks and saved numerous mtn lions ,bears , wild pigs and even baby possums ty for helping me know the symbolism if you can and more importantly helping tommy if you can ,oh my radio station is 102.1 fm in mena ar. k.e.n.a. at menaradio.com thanks and bless all!!!!!

my experience
I am not a person that remembers my dreams. When I do rarely remember a dream the visions are almost haunting (not always in a bad way) months ago I had a dream that I was riding in a car, it was night time and we were driving very slowly, almost in slow motion, through a strange town. The town was eerily quiet but I wasn't afraid. I was in awe almost of the scenes passing my window. Nothing was spectacular, it was just a feeling I had. Everything outside of the car was in shades of gray. My attention was drawn to the tops of the buildings where there were unusually large owls perched like gargoyls. Not moving and not making a noise but very alive. As we reached the end of the town there was a single tree on the side of the road, bare from leaves and only a single branch with another owl perched there. Right outside my window it held eye contact with me until I passed. The feelings from that dream stayed with me for weeks. About a week ago I had another dream of a red tail hawk and I was trying to take a picture of the bird. When ever I got close to the bird it would ruffles it feathers as if to tell me to stay at a distance. I followed the bid and it changed back and forth from an owl to a hawk. Again, when I awoke, the feelings stayed with me for days. An evening a few days ago, I was running errand and had driven accrossed the valley and had been in the car about two hours. In that time I saw a hawk 3 different times soring over me. What does this all mean, I have been asking myself

Beginning to Understand - my hawk experiences
Two days ago my son and I noticed a long white substance that ran from the top rear of my black car down to the tire. It was milky looking =- somewhat like bir drippings but too long and smooth. Well, I could not have that so I went to a car wash and surprisingly, it came right off. My past experience with bird drippings is that they are tough to get off and more limited in sze. The next day while driving I passed a large and beautiful bird just standing in a grassey spot I backed my car up and just looked in awe at the magnificant creature. It was a very large hawk. It did not fly away even though my car was less than four feet away. The hawk stood completely still and looked at me as directly as I looked at it. After a few minutes, the hawk turned sideways and I saw a long stream of white liquid shoot out from beneath. The stream arced about four feet. I'm thinking it was the same substance I found on my car the day before and three miles away.

After reading all of the posts above, I am connecting the spiritual encounters with soulful flight throughout my life. About four years ago, a hawk was pearched on a wood pile directly accross from my kitchen window. Again I watched the bird and it appearded to watch me. For about fifteen minutes I washed the dishes and shared eye-contact with the hawk. When my son came home, I told him to look. He went into the yard and slowly approached it. When he got within three feet, it slowly flew away. This or another hawk also appears in a tree along the side of my house.

I visited Dollywood in Tennessee because of the Eagle sanctuary there. It's wonderful. Hundreds of eagles and other birds of prey. During a live performance, a trainer released an eagle that flew to the rear of the audience. While in flight, it's wing touched top of my head. The audience was cautioned that this might happen to someone in the front row as the eagle soared and that it meant good luck. I felt blessed that day and since.

I realize now that my soul has longed to be in flight since I was a pre-teen and perhaps earlier During the major blizzards of the '50s in the norheast, I would be mezmerized by the whisling winds and blowing show. I wanted to be with the winds. I have had many spiritual encounters, both positive and negative. I don't seek them out. I am a child of nature and am one with nature. I guess "my hawk" has been trying to point this out to me. Thanks to this site, I will continue to understand this oneness and my mission in it.

I saw one really close today, and am just opening a new chapter in my life due to poor health. It was amazing!!
In representation to humanity, the hawk is called messenger, protector and visionary. Keen vision is one of its greatest gifts. Hawks see things others miss.

The hawk comes to you indicating that you are now awakening to your soul purpose, your reason for being here. It can teach you how to fly high while keeping yourself connected to the ground.

As you rise to a higher level, your psychic energies are awakening and the hawk can help you to keep those senses in balance. Its message for you is to be open to hope and new ideas, to extend the vision of your life.

The Hawk is an animal of flight. It soars through the air looking down, and sees everything. It has a larger perspective of what is going on down below. With its keen eyesight, it looks down as it soars through the air looking for its prey. It can see the smallest of creatures below.

The Hawk is known as a messenger, similar to the planet Mercury, for the hawk soars close to the Grandfather Sun, as does the planet. When you listen to the power of the Grandfather Sun or Wise Spirit that lives within, you are protected from all types of harm.

The Hawk teaches you to be observant and take a close look at your surroundings. It soars with the power to overcome difficult situations. It soars in circles over the life of the earth, asking you to circle over your life and view it from a higher perspective.

The Hawk has a distinct cry, one that most people are aware of. Its cry signifies awareness. If you hear the cry of the hawk use your intuitive ability to discern the message and seek the truth.

If a hawk has soared into your life, you require a higher perspective. You need to see the details of what is going on and look at the bigger picture. Take a look at your situation from above.

ease the pain of death?
My family and I made the most difficult decision to put our dog to sleep and that happened almost 3 weeks ago. I was letting Sunny out for the last time before we went to the vet - I was in such agony even though I knew it wasn't really my beloved Sunny in the body anymore. A couple hundred yards away I saw a hawk circling. It didn't seem particularly breezy but the hawk only soared, no flapping. Soon "he" was joined by another and then another and they seemed to be following the same corkscrew pattern, following each other, soaring up the corkscrew, then down all while gently coming our way. Soon there were seven, 10, 15, I couldn't even count them, and I didn't see where they came from just that so many were in that pattern now over top of where Sunny was sniffing around. I called for my kids to come outside not wanting to take my eyes off of them. In just a couple minutes they had drifted pretty much out of view.

I looked at my kids - I said I've never seen anything like that nor have I ever seen so many hawks at once. At first I was kind of creeped out thinking hawks came when they spotted something dead, and my dog was not dead yet! My daughter and I kept thinking it couldn't be the death/food thing, it must mean something. We are believers that animals go to heaven based on references in the Bible (see I Will See You in Heaven by Jack Wintz)
Last night we were talking about it again and I told her I would see what I could find on the internet - and I found you! Do you have any specific thoughts on this encounter?

Visits from herons, then a hawk
Thanksgiving week was tough for me, as it was the one-year anniversary of the loss of my boyfriend to suicide. This last year has been one of healing and reflection for me, as well as a self-evaluation of my life goals and purpose. The solitary winter was brutal.

Last spring and summer, I had daily visits from great blue herons...usually while I was driving. My life had become so chaotic and I found serenity watching their strong, steady flight and I read about these wading birds' hunting technique of standing still while attached to the air, water and earth simultaneously. I felt that they were trying to tell me "Wait...be patient...don't be in such a hurry to figure this out...it will come to you when the time is right." When the herons stopped visiting, I missed them very much but realized that they were trying to help me deal with my abandonment issues. "We're gone now...but you're OK."

Since then, I started dating again and have met a wonderful man who is helping me enjoy life again. He is incredibly patient, and has supported me emotionally while I deal with the PTSD and other trauma from last year as well as past experiences that wounded me. Like any injury, these must be given time to heal.

I was out house-hunting last week, as I am ready to embark on a new chapter in my life. While walking in the wooded backyard of a property, I noticed a red-tailed hawk circling very low above me...almost in the tree tops. It was so beautiful that I felt blessed just watching it and said, "Hello!" The hawk then dipped just a bit and screeched very loudly! I'm not sure if it was speaking directly at me or just letting out a joyful noise. Since then, I have been researching the meaning of this visit.

I interpret it as the universe's way of telling me "Pay attention now! The wait is over..stay alert!" When I think about that hawk, I feel a connection to a Higher Power that is offering strength & courage. Like the hawk...I am joy-filled...I want to soar and sing out!

My hawk encounter
Yesterday as I was walking home, a man was stopped on the corner and he was very excited about the sight of the hawk that was perched on the fence of a yard. I wasn't really sure what a hawk looked like up close so I began to pay attention. The man announced that the bird was about to fly, well sure enough it did it flew about a foot above the street directly at me. I dodge to the left and wondered if perhaps it was the belongings of my son that I was carrying that maybe attracted the bird my way. Later on that night I began thinking about it and decided that I would look up if there was a meaning behind this encounter. I was very surprised to find out what this meant. Everything that the encounter represents I understand. The visionary power of it really touched me because that is so me! I always thought I was a bit imaginative but now it all makes sense. I want to thank all of you for your input and insight for me to read and understand that I am not alone in my life thoughts and the higher power that I have tried to ignore I can no longer. Thanks again and many peace and blessings to you all.

Last Nights Experience
Hello my fellow hawk-minded tribemates,
Lately I've seen "my hawk" or various other hawks almost every other day. I don't get quite as excited anymore. I do, however, feel that same oneness in spirit with them. Yesterday I kept looking in my backyard, as I felt one was near in some sense. I didn't see one. Last night, or actually early this morning (about 1 or 2am) I heard a loud screech - twice. It sounded like it was inside my house. Earlier in the evening, something knocked against my window. For some reason, I was not surprised or frightened. I checked the internet for hawk sounds and yes, the sound I heard was definitely that of a hawk.

It's beginning to dawn on me that there's a message intended or a call for an awakening. I know I'm about to turn a corner of my life. I am sole care-giver of my 98 year old mom. I was with her when her heart stopped a few years ago. I quickly sought help and the hospital staff brought her back. She has been hospitalized two more times. She and I both know that we will be together when her time comes. I now recall that many friends have sought me out just before they passed on. Although those were sad occasions, I also felt the very naturalness (if there is such a word) of it all. I've had about six very near death experiences of my own that I know of. I thank
God for the spirit world of angels (and hawks) watching over me.

A special pre-birthday present
For the past two days I saw six young hawks perched in the tree outside my kithen window - The same tree I have often seen an adult hawk in. You can imagine how wonderful that experience has been for me. I believe that the adult hawk had previously been scouting out the yard for safety and food. The young hawks have gathered around the base of my neighbor's bird feeder.

Today, two days later I only noticed two this morning and another at another location. I guess they are secure enough to go their own way now. I hope they will come back often! Today is my birthday but I got my present two days ago.

My life has been a bit up-side down lately. My husband and I have relocated and it has been hard on my spirit. I was driving to work this morning on the highway, when a beautiful hawk flew in front of my truck. Catching my eye with its wing spread, he was just above my hood and his/her wing or body caught the end of the antenna. I don't feel like it could have knocked the bird off balance enough to go down, but when I looked back in my mirror, there was something in the road. For some reason though, I don't feel like it actually was the hawk. I feel as if the hawk was going in to feed on whatever it was. I honestly don't know, in my heart I feel like I was suppose to see this beautiful creature, I just hope I didn't hurt it, everything happened so fast. I will never forget the image of that hawk and in my heart i feel like it flying free.

Mystify and Amaze
I have recently started having experiences with the messenger Hawk. When I am waiting on an answer they seem to hang out in 8's until I get the message. The other day I felt compelled to give my son a warning about a person he was hanging out with. As I told him I looked up there were the 8 Hawks after I told him there were 20 hawks, the best I could count flying around, before they flew away they formed the numbers 100. Any idea on this? Thank you for your time.

several hawks
I live in East Tn and we have mtn. land and there's always red tailed hawks flying around..I think they're beautiful..I love to hear them also. 1 even came close to me here while back..it just stared n flew away ;)..I called him red lol...i'm always walkin around the land and they know i'm not a threat. I love the Native American culture and i learn more about it everyday it seems. I'm learning how to be more patient and quiet and listen. I know the red tailed hawk is one of my totems as i'm always around them. They are the protectors. I've seen 1 fly down and snatch a rat in the field and fly off. When i'm on the mtn, i always leave some bread or whatever leftovers i have out in the field for them, deer or whatever wants it. I have a real good cherokee friend who also teaches me alot and I bought my 1st native flute last april and bought another in august 2011. I have taught myself how to play. It's so peaceful and the hawks seem to like it too lol.

red tails fly above me since my step dad past and used a dead red tail that was given to him on his memorial indian rack as a protector
My step dad past 7 year's ago and day's prior someone gave him a dead red tail hawk. After new's of his death a visted my mom on their 20 acre ranch. I remembered my stepfather telling me that when he die's he would like to be his burial to be like indian tribe's that have indian rack's and pass their love one off in that tradition. They 20 acres is in anza ,ca. and their is red shank and manzanita tree's all over the property. I used this wood to make the rack. I would decorated the rack with his possesion's. My stepfather's name is dennis royse. he was a very spiritual man and was educated with all religion's and belief's from the bible, the dead sea scroll's,tibeten book of the dead, lost book's of the bible, key's of enoch, carlos castineada(don juan teaching's,oriental occultism, and much more. When I picked a spot on to put the memorial, I happened to pick the spot where he once had a cross made from 2x6 piece's of wood that came apart and blended in with the shrub's over time. I re-attached the cross and started to build the memorial. Once the rack was together I was able to hand feather's that dennis had ,and I had a neighbor donate a cow scull and I decorated with war paint and I found a red tail hawk that was given to him. the top portion of the hawk was preserved and i was able to use the chest and head and put on a manzanita stick tasseled in leather and put on one of the four post of the rack as a protector. As I worked I kept noticing red tails flying above and vulture's. As the year's passed by I noticed that red tail hawks will fly out and above me and circle in almost slow motion so I can see the true bueaty of them. I travel around sothern ca daily and you can imagine how may cities and freeway's I travel through and It never fail's I have a hawk that has me on radar and the come out from wherever the happen to be as I pass through. there was a day that I was in the grove's and I had one fly 20 feetabove me and let out a screech and was looking right at me. I know this is some kind of connection with my step dad. I feel spiritual and I have also connected to him in a dream. I knew him very well and I know he is with me in spirit and is my gaurdian angel. I also have a red tail foot that is decorated on a necklace and is my totem. thanks for letting me share

Red tail Hawk Feather fell into my lap
we were getting ready to leave our property we own for 3 months june 2011 - my husband and I always pray at the grave of a 17 yr old poodle that belonged to my mom. the solar lite is 13 years old and blinks at anytime of day or night, battery never changed. mud on top of it in a shady area with no sun. This day we were kneeling and praying to protect our property and home in our abscence and from the sky a red tailed hawk feather dropped right into my lap. I kept it as some sort of blessing. Later when we were leaving there is a 15 foot drop where coal trains go behind my house. I forgot something and we went back, when I got into the passenger side of the car out of NO WHERE, THIS 15 FOOT DROP down the fenceline came the most gorgeous German Shepard dog he just sat and looked at us. This was one of those expensive shepards and nobody in our neighborhood has one, how did he get up a 15 foot wall? not even dirty, not aggressive, he sat at my properties edge and just looked at us. Can anyone tell me what all this meant? Since that day I have been sick with different operations, hysterectomy, gall bladder. loss of over 60 pounds but realized that I could use that feather to open the spirit world where the grave is and have over 300 picture of it once opened, both of my family and unclean spirits. Any ideas? Why me, why was this dropped in my lap. I have no earthly family anymore who will talk to me for no reasons. I only have my husband and 3 labradores all brothers I took all 3 I could sense they were going to kill the one I call Andrew I can't tell you how I just knew it and it turns out it was a puppy mill disgised by a house in front of it we never knew it at the time, I do now. Please help me understand. Thank you so much! Youtube helensjoy channel you will see what BP did to our oceans and the life within it. I cried sitting on a sandbar. Is any of this connected? I left here to help my son an addict but could not he is now living not far from me up north and won't even talk to me again for no reason, I allowed him to save money for 5 months and have his girl here who I believe is an unclean spirit, I know she is so he wouldn't be lonely. Please can someone help me?

Hawk flying towards my son's office
There was a large hawk, it looked like a baby almost grown, it was flopping around with its wings slowly like it had not gotten its balance yet, , just sitting there on the top of the building above the mail box for a while, looking at me over it's shoulder, then it SLOWLY flew towards my son's office and flew low then up over the top.
Is there some type of symbolism for this? My son was struggling with his new business, and in-laws are parasitizing off of him as well.

He is now thinking of shutting down the office.

What can you tell me about this happening if anyone knows symbolism?

Omen I think.
Tuesday morning I am sitting between my greenhouse and garden facing North and see a large bird swooping down towards me, I realized it was a Red Tail Hawk. I was frozen as it kept coming lower straight at me. It did not avoid me at all but flew over the top of my head gently touching me with its claws. It did not grab onto my hair or hurt me, just brushed over my head and gently fly over me. I couldn't move but felt amazing just for the experience. I am of Cherokee Heritage. Can anyone help me with this.

My Mother loved and supported the Native Americans. She loved birds and nature and I do too.My precious Mom passed away in March 2009. During this time I started seeing Hawks a lot. I felt they were connected to my Mom. in January 2010 my grandson was born. I feel that's when the hawk siteings began.I had taken a picture of a large hawk at my grandsons house. I stayed to help take care of him. I didn't remember the hawk until a year later when I was looking through pictures to make an album for my grandson.Through the passed 3 + years, I feel her presence so strongly whenever I see a hawk. I was visiting my Mom's sister and I was outside her apartment when this hawk landed in the tree right in front of my aunt's apartment as if it was telling me, I'm watching over her. Hawks have flown above my mom's home while I was there. When I'm on my way to my children's homes. This past sunday a large hawk was in my yard. It stayed for a long time. I was able to get a beautiful picture of it.Recenty my son had an accident on his motorcycle and broke 5 ribs. I'm so thankful he's alive and healing. He saw a hawk monday with a broken wing in his yard.Again it made feel my mother's presence watching over him. He called to get help for the hawk.I'm glad to have found this website, it has given me a lot of peace.

Hawks and Owls know my family lost one of us, too soon, unfairly to cancer. How do they know?
I love nature. I try to see, hear and discover the animals who live near the trails where I go. My Great Dane will point her nose to them. My sister-in-law loved the wild birds. When she passed I discovered for the first time a Great Horned Owl perched in a tree right along side the trail I always travel. I watched him, and he watched me. There was a nest, it was May. We visited each other nearly everyday at a respectable distance. The babies fledged and then they started leaving the area and returning less. meanwhile a Hen Harrier Hawk made friends with me. I got a great picture of him as he landed on a cypress treet top to get a close look at me. He would meet and greet me at that same tree for several weeks and I wondered how he knew I had arrived as It was random times. As I got close, he would fly to an old fence post further up the trail. When I got to the post, he would fly further up the trail and sit on the limbs of an old century plant's flower spike. Hoping up the trail ahead of me and knowing the way. Now he plays with me at the top doing summersaults and roll overs to impress me. I am impressed. His mate has become friendly over recent weeks and she flys above me and once landed close so I could get a picture of her also. They are Harry and Harriette and they know what I call them. It is so amazing to experience this very intentional and explicit attention these magnificent birds pay to me and my dog. That they would trust and let us into their lives! I feel moved spiritually and bonded in much that way when they look at me. Like there is an understanding and safety. It is so special. I...and I'm sure other people here will always remember these encounters with reverence and fondness the rest of our life's.

I have been singled out very specifically
last year 4 hawks, a mother, father and two sub-adults perched on my back fence for 2 months. And they lived in the tree in the corner of my back yard and they hunted song birds in the area, they literally never left that fence except to eat or sleep. And today, I am an activist for gov. reform, actually, I tout The Second American Revolution. Called Project Reboot. Anyway, today I was scared that something might happen to me, that I might actually be killed for some of the things I have said, I read the article about Edward Snowden, in an article about how an ex NSA operative blew the whislte on the gov. for haveing an ongoing as in still collecting database of citizens email, web surfing practices, and phone conversations. And he is now taking refuge in China and has said he will never leave China because the U.S. would have him killed. So I began to get scared. I started fearing every noise I heard that the gov. was coming after me, then I saw a shadow outside, and when I stepped outside to see what it was, I found a red tail hawk feather right on my doorstep, only it wasn't from the tail, it was a wing feather, one of the secondary feathers. I can't help but feel it's as if the hawk was trying to put my mind at ease, that I was safe, that I was protected and on the right path.

Hawk Symbolism
Today, New Year's Day 2015, as I came to a stop sign at a 4-way intersection in a quiet neighborhood (the neighborhood I grew up in 50 years ago), I saw a large red-tail hawk scoop up a large squirrel and fly off with him, with the squirrel squirming desperately to get free. The hawk had a huge wingspan, and his tail was spread open like a paper fan. He soared upward toward some trees, out of sight. Because of recent traumatic events in my life, and my introduction to the concept of Shmittah only yesterday and the period we are in now relating to Shmittah, it occurred to me that this might be an omen or symbol of some kind, but I have no clue as to how to interpret it. Can anyone explain this to me?

Dead red tail hawk found in my yard
Hello friends, unfortunately, I found a beautiful red tail hawk dead in my yard with a dead injury and broken neck. I've been reading about the spiritual meaning of the red tail and am trying to understand the message. I am a very spiritual person and am open to receive guidance. If anyone knows, please comment.
