Chris is fantastic! We've really only spent one weekend together back in June 2005, but it was awesome. She is genuine and caring, sassy and unique, and I feel fortunate that we got to connect. From afar she sends me love and friendship, and I send it back!

A friend and a sage, this girl is amazing. She supports your journey, the journey we all share, with understanding, wisdom, laughter, fun, hard work by your side and a whole lot of playfulness. Chris is one of the gems I have discovered along the way who has made a positive difference in my life. Genuine and true, to know this one is to love!

about me
somewhat of a cultural shape-shifter.. sometimes I feel like I'm bridging the divide between "conventional/western" thinking (empirical reality), and all those other ways of telling the story that other cultures or perspectives have envisioned... but more often I realize I still need a lot of practice.

Well, *I* thought it was interesting!!

Burning Man is very Yang-- it's very focused on putting it OUT there: radical self-sufficiency, no spectators (DO something, dammit!), a culture of abundance that results in a pouring OUT of just about everything: shade, entertainment, costumes, spare batteries, even. Not to mention tons and tons of DJ music :->

In terms of yin and yang, this seems very Yang and masculine to me. When I went to the Rainbow Gathering last year, it was also a wonderful community experience, but much more c... read more

hmmm... floating on down, touching down into the wavering, slightly out-of-focus plain of Tribe land. It's still here, it appears, and as solid as it ever was. Yes, just about that.

It's been an interesting summer for me-- on the one hand so damn busy that I've barely had time to think, and on the other, I've been managing to fit in some reading and thinking along with my watching and reading (and thinking). Thinking about myself and my relationship to the world, and reading, watching a... read more

I haven't blogged much these days, on tribe or elsewhere, but a friend of mine just sent this and I thought it deserved distribution because it's sort of how I feel, and I know that a lot of people feel a lot more strongly this way.

crossing my fingers for 2009...

Story that goes with the photo above:
Back in 1929 during the Financial Crash that kicked off the Great Depression, it was said that some Wall Street Stockbrokers and Bankers JUMPED from their office windows and committed... read more

The Saga continues, both on Scott's blog (people.tribe.net/1ce8b9e3-...94cc80b2a) and on mine (hot Blog on Blog action, man! get it here!)

First, as Flackmeister points out, this is not the hill to die on. My further torture of the analogy is that this is not the tree that I want to be impaled on in the forest of intolerance. Time to back up and 1) make sure you're still fighting for the things you want to be fighting for, a... read more

So, out with the bad, in with the good (Obama) and in with some bad, too...
Talking about Proposition 8 in California.

My friend (and more ;- ) Scott, posted this blog, which is getting a lot of good dialog going:
people.tribe.net/1ce8b9e3-...e95d4/blog

There is a lot of complex feeling and backlash going on with this one-- all over the US, throughout Utah, and right here in between my ears.

Prop 8 was a Califor... read more

Re: How do you screw up grout? (in DIY - do it yourself) Might be too late for Kathryn, but a tip for others (or for her, if she and her husband have to remove their new grout again): go with epoxy grout. This is great for kitchen and bathroom installations-- when it sets up its basically plastic, and ... read more

Re: Cutting Sponge? (in DIY - do it yourself) Not sure if this is the solution you were looking for, but I've carved foam (several different types, including both open cell and closed-cell) with an electric turkey carving knife. It did leave riffles from the serrated knife edge, but they pre... read more

Re: Utah Decompression Nov 7 (in Burning Man) A lot of my friends from out of state have been surprized that it's just as easy to get drunk in Utah as anywhere else.

It's actually pretty interesting to watch the gyrations of the local lawmakers. They are doing anything they can to make ... read more

Re: PBR Chic? (in Burning Man) My take on the PBR "craze" is simply this: it's both the best tasting (COLD, as Jason notes) AND cheap swill beer. If you're working in the sun, it goes down good and doesn't threaten to come up, and it isn't so potent that you (immediately, any... read more
