...a little bit of me

I've been working on this piece with Firebelly. Kira, the director, conceived it all (even making the boats and costumes) and is developing the choreography. David and I (Night & Day Dance) have helped with the partner dancing bits... and all of this is set to Tom Waits. How cool is that?

about me
What moves me is the why, the passion, the essence of something. I've never looked at a dance, martial art or any other kind of move and thought, "I want to do that". I've always thought, "I want to FEEL that". Feeling first and then movement. That is what fuels my growth. The same has been true in mathematics. I've never just wanted to memorize a formula or technique but have always asked why, how does it work, how does this fit in to everything else I know, where can i take it from there? And these questions do not collect dust but fly around sparking further exploration. And it goes in spirals linking one thing to another - what are the commonalities between martial arts and partner dancing? How can one inform the other? What can the grammar of German teach me about the influence of English on my way of seeing the world?

Night & Day Dance Journal

Finally, some details! We perform this Saturday, March 10, at the Ukrainian Hall in a fundraising event for the Tropak Ukrainian Dance Theatre All the specifics are on their website. Our first piece is called “The Evidence,” inspired by 1940’s film noir detective movies. The second piece, which we are calling “In the Moment,” will be a [...]

I’ve upgraded our journal, installed a plugin that should reduce spam, and all I had to trade for it was my modified version for the original appearance of the journal. I’d say that’s fair. For now, some quick news: We are performing with Firebelly in a fire show on February 24th and 25th at Winterruption, an arts [...]

Once again we’re upgrading around here, but this time it isn’t for looks. We’ve been bombarded with all kinds of spam comments, and it’s starting to drive us nuts. If this upgrade helps slow down the torrent, we’ll make things look pretty again. If not, we’re going to take the journal offline and put our [...]

We’ve been hearing about email programs and clients that like to eat our messages. We wouldn’t want anyone on our email lists to miss important information, so please remember to add all nightanddaydance.com addresses to your non-junk list. If you need help with this, please let us know! Thanks, David

So I finally have a few moments to review the past few performance experiences. Our big Christmas party partner dance performance was quite the mix of things. We were both thrilled to be asked to dance in a space almost right out of the movies–the two curving marble staircases in the rotunda of the Art Gallery. [...]
