A genuine and reasonable man, I have always admired sparkes. Although he is a well built guy, I know he is a caring and sensitive man and his warm personality reflects this side of him. He is also a natural coder and seems to have the hacker quality that has set many open source luminaries apart. A good friend.

Sparkes is one of those irritating blokes, for whom programming a computer is as natural and easy as drinking water is for the rest of us.
He's more than a coder. He's a genuinely nice bloke. His unwavering commitment to certain principles could be annoying and his physical size could be intimidating, in anyone else. Sparkes, though, seems to make an effort to get beyond whatever he might dislike in someone, and to find the bits he does like, pulling the warmth of personality to the fore. June 25, 2004
